Hot weather the last weeks !!!!

It's been rather hot in Virginia USA recently--it hit somewhere between 99F and 106F (I saw conflicting reports) yesterday, with a nightly low that wasn't very low (felt like 80F in my room....). Historically in the past few years there hasn't been this level of heat until August (and it started in June).

There was also a significant wind storm Friday night that took out power for what I heard was a large portion of Virginia (hard to tell, I only just got internet now and the towns around me have been down since then, along with where I live), and also Maryland and Delaware. Coincides perfectly with the coronal hole in the Sun turning towards earth.

I hope everyone's doing ok if they lost power or were in that storm!

I'm in Maryland and we lost power for a day and a half. It came on this morning, thankfully. And it is quite hot in the upper 90's and 100's. The heat was manageable in the basement without a/c, but I could imagine it's really bad for those who live in higher stories that get really hot.

Glad to hear you made it through the storm alright!

It's been really hot - 100's the last three days here in Maryland and the heat is supposed to last through the week. The storm was one of the worst I've experienced here. It was short, but was ferocious. My parents and many others I know are without power with many trees down.

:scared: I hope you and your family can be ok after that storm.

After many days of hot, the weather change to cold 3 days ago and a little bit windy!!! The nights are getting more cold...

As I said before I relate to the Sun Storms and the high tempetatures, I will wait to the next Sun Storm and see what happens!!!

It's been really hot here in Tennessee too. Friday was 106, 109 yesterday, (the all time record now I believe), around 104 today.
It will get back down to the high 90's for the 4th then back into the 100's later next week.

Makes one wonder what else is in store. I'm guessing we will see some big storms when things finally cool down, but only time
will tell.

We had a day of rain and it was forecast to go down to 15 this morning but I'm looking at my thermometer that tells me the temp right next to the house (probe on a wire out the window) and it says 12 C which is 54 F. My guess is that it is at least a degree cooler actually because it is always warmer right next to the house. This would be a typical winter temperature in Florida. It will probably heat back up to 36/38 (97 - 100 F) in a few days, then rain and turn cool again which has been the pattern so far this spring/summer.

I was on the phone to Anart and Brainwave in Maryland who are without power after the storm (they have an old land line that works even when the power is out). They told me the heat after that storm was still awful. I took a look at the Gulf Stream site linked on SOTT and looks like it is pooling off the East coast of the US and just not traveling across the ocean. May be why UK is getting such a mess right now and we are getting the "trickle down".

For Germany it is also hot, but don't know if it is above average. What is telling are the unfortunate incidences with lightnings, i.e. 3 people got killed on a golf course and a fourth person did survive it and then on a heavy metal festival a lightning hit, leaving 51 people injured. And as well all the heavy storms with huge hail. I.e. in Berlin where a storm devastated a street (trees, cars). Maybe it is time looking up statistics if can be said it is unusual or still in normal ranges. Looking at one page it is at least a high storm year (one year goes from 01.06. till 30.06 to the following year):

Sure is! Looks like the corn crop around here (Lawrence Co) is about baked out. If we got a good rain right now it might survive.

Yes, it's been alternating between really hot and heavy rainfalls, storms and hail where I live. Two nights ago we had a thunderstorm starting at around 2:45am. It was so loud it woke me up and was the first time in my life that a thunderstorm left me feeling very uncomfortable (usually I really liked thunderstorms). About 1 - 2 weeks ago there was a heavy hail storm of a strength I haven't yet experienced and I wondered whether my roof windows would hold up.

The sky is very overcast here in Nashville currently, hopefully, at least some of us will get some rain in the form of thunderstorms...

Yeah, we got clouds, lightning/thunder but no rain - we need that jet stream to move south. This will be the second year in a row for a dead corn crop in the area which really isn't too bad since the majority of it is GMO. Most of the GMO/Monsanto/USDA croppers get cheap insurance so they are not out much in a crop failure.

Our weather is back to normal in Sacramento.

OMG, it has NEVER been this hot for this long here in the Pittsburgh area. I can remember back in the summers, if it hit 90 once, it was a big deal. And that usually happened in August. Now, it has been in the 90s on a regular basis since June. We even cracked 100, a record. No rain, all the grass is dried up. We did get a stray thundershower yesteday, rained for maybe a half hour. And that was probably because I decided to give my car it's semi-annual bath on Sunday. Who needs rain dances, I just need to wash the car! ;D
