Hot weather the last weeks !!!!

The power came back on last night and we finally got a full nights sleep. We were baking for four days and the cold showers provided little relief.
As for the storm that knocked out the power, I'd never seen anything like before.

Yeah and once all that hot air from the USA reaches me in southern Québec and hit the cold air masses from northern Canada, it generates very intense activity.

We are also suffering from intense heat here like never before. Where I live is also a junction point between hot/cold air currents. When both systems are strong, they generate very intense thunderstorms, heavy showers, hail and many funnel clouds although there is just not enough energy to generate tornadoes (yet).

Glad to hear that you all got power back! It's still out where I live (currently, it seems like it'll probably be out until the weekend--a full week long), but most places around me have power now so I can go places and get it.

It was also nothing like anything I've ever seen as well--very strange!

Thanks Zim :)

I do think they're doing all they can--there's just a lot of downed trees and power lines right now and I'm not in a very "high priority" area. There was a crew working on my street today, so perhaps it'll return soon, but there was also another sizable storm just now (hail, close thunder/lightning, and high winds) so who knows. I'll make it through (or leave), so I'm not too concerned, but this really is some crazy weather!

I'm glad to hear that Brainwave!
Hope everybody is all right!
How long you guys were without power?
Thinking of the refrigerator and freezer these machines are keep up for a couple of days without electricity, hope the food didn't get spoiled.

Take care Brainwave, Anart, Ennio!

:hug2:

We're ok. We were able to get some dry ice from my job and that kept the meat frozen in the freezer. We cooked on the charcoal grill out back, hand washed some clothing etc. The main problem was the 4 days of extreme heat which made us unable to sleep and very sluggish.

FWIW, it is possible to see more extreme weather during July according to P. Corbyn forecast:

Wait and see but it is better to get prepared in any case IMHO.

Well, I hope they get to your area soon. The heat makes it a zillion times worse!

I am also in Maryland like Brainwave & 3D Student, this locator didn't lose any power during the storm, but the storm was magnificent. I was up watching it with a glass of vitamin C water and my pipe.

It's a good thing I hail from the tropics, because the heat wasn't bad to me. The cold showers definitely are a good trick to have though. I like to call this the summer of fire, things just keep getting "hotter and hotter."

I'm from the tropics and I have to tell you for me this heat is different. In the Caribbean, except for in the city with its concrete, at least we had breezes and afternoon sun showers that were refreshing. Here it's just stifling hot and still air and we are surrounded by trees. It just doesn't feel right.

Thanks for the heads up, mkrnhr! I'm definitely thinking about this at the moment--a month long (or more) extended heat wave without AC is quite a lot to bear.

Thanks! I think it may be fixed soon, but I'm certainly not holding my breath until it's on.

Yup :)

In the tropics, rain is accompanied by wind/storm and that makes it cooler.

In the temperates, I notice it's usually "dead rain" - just water falling from the sky with no wind/storm. And that makes it hot n' humid.

I think what happened in Maryland was a big nor'easter followed by rapid "rebound" of an X-treme high-pressure ridge.

Sorta like 4D nuking a hole in the weather, then everything rushes back to fill in the void.

Supposedly, it was a "Derecho", a storm rather like a small, fast hurricane, which is moved along by a meandering Jet Stream. Supposed to be rare, but I expect they'll be a lot less rare now.

We still can't quite get summer going here. We had a couple days where it got up to 36-38 C (97-100 F) but then, the clouds came and the rain and it cooled down to 10 C ... sorta warmed up a bit but it has continued to rain off and on, right now about 18 C. Supposed to keep raining and get down to 12 C in two days. Heck, this is JULY!!!

Same up here - the summer can't seem to get going and temperatures are well below 20 degrees Celsius, combined with still air - this still air has become more and more frequent. No wasps or bubmlebees so far either, for the first time that I have noticed.
