A friend just gave me this fun little book "How to Be a Nonconformist" by Elissa Jane Karg. It was written by a 16 year old in 1967 about the conformity of nonconformity. It seems timeless.
From the opening page:
"Nonconforming boys wear their their hair long, and nonconforming girls wear their hair short. Their bangs are so long that the probability of their having eyes is questionable."
next page:
"A girl however is not condemned for having long hair. Some people just have to be different."

I found an image on the net. Part of the books charm are the hand drawn pictures and textEverybody wants to be "in" nowadays, and the only way to be "in"-nowadays, that is - is to be a nonconformist. Nonconforming is an art. There is a right way and a wrong way to practice this art. How to Be a Nonconformist is the first book to offer 22 simple steps to successful nonconforming. If the entire country practices this code until it becomes innate, the United States will be the first totally unique and original society. And i'll be rich.
