How to "biohack your intelligence"

#4
Very similar to the the "Elon Musk type", i.e. materialist humans who are focused on technology and see nothing else(notice how these "hacking" blablabla type of articles have been appearing on the net for a while now, as if the human being was a machine that could be hacked like a computer; well it is a machine as we know here, but their view is certainly extreme)

quoting the article
I think that what we are doing with biohacking is the beginning of humanity’s split into separate species. Enhanced posthumans who will make all the decisions (and who will likely come from the tech communities of Silicon Valley and China). “Basic humans,” who will (maybe) be taken care of well, but will have no real say in what happens.

The reason this cataclysmic shift is coming: intelligence can already be enhanced.
50 years from now this world will very clearly be owned by people who dope their runnings skills today.
  • Greater applied intelligence resulting from these interventions directly creates significant financial, social, physiological (health) and intellectual wealth. Life is sooooooo easy when we are always full of energy, extremely persuasive, able to focus.
  • This wealth can be reinvested into further enhancement of intelligence, creating an upwards spiral of wealth.
Personally I get bad vibes from this article. Very very bad vibes. Such people are going to make the World better ?

Welcome to the Brave New World :-)

Okay, so I changed the thread title; don't want to be misleading people!

And yeah, Cs predicted that would be the goal, but also predicted that it would fail because the playing field would be leveled... I guess that would be Earth Changes, war or whatever: death and destruction. But then, that's what bio-hacking leads to. Just read Altemeyer.

How about a synopsis, or just a quick rundown of what is said?
I think that the end sums it up very nicely:

I want to live in a post-human future that is dominated by values I align with: knowledge, science, technology, freedom, progress, power, abundance, pure meritocracy, optimism. And where tribalism, religion, tradition, nation-states, irrational emotions, conservatism, socialism, and humanism along with our current biology itself, are all relegated to the museum. And crumble to dust. {Comment: Sounds like a great schism in the US population between postmodernists and conservatives}

I know that only those of you who hold a very similar technocratic worldview will internalize and obsessively adapt these hacks. Those of you who believe in different values will pacify yourselves with words about how this is unproven. Too radical. Too weird. Too un-human. Too far off in the future to care about. Too complicated.

These tools will help the group that adopts them gain power. And thus help further advance a situation where those of us with values similar to mine — the “Silicon Valley culture” — set the agenda for mankind. I want to be a god myself, but I also want people similar to Larry Page, Mark Zuckerberg, Masayoshi Son or Jeff Bezos to run the world by the end of this century. It will be a much better world than what we have today.

So for me the lines along which we will split on this approach is itself a feature of the approach.

This article — crafted with deliberate attention-grabbing concepts like sex, illegal drugs and fear — is a social engineering tool. Designed to help bring about the future I believe in.
And one comment from him:

well, by the time i am 100 i intend to be backed up in datacenters around the world and on satellites in space. with very pitchfork-resistant autonomous weapons around to prevent the masses from having any say in my life.

thing is posthuman life will be so much interesting and enjoyable that it really makes sense to focus on it.
So in the end they want to be transferred to datacenters, but in the meantime they want to prolong their lives as much as they can and also improve their mental/emotional/physical performance so that they could remain among the elites of the world. Because only the elites will be uploaded to datacenters. For the rest of humans it will probably be too expensive.

Well, the first part of his goal to me is absolutely insane, but the second part is kinda alright, if there wouldn't be a completely materialistic approach to it. A lot of the things that he mentioned we also talked about on this forum, with much more useful info, sans the bizarre life philosophy.

Ah, the arrogance of dissociated intellect...
I was reading SF like neuromancer and Snow Crash in my teens. Transhumanists always combined this weird type of intellectual haughtyness with technological salvationism. I'll really have a hard time not laughing if, for instance, neural implants start being popular only to prove to open vulnerabilities to neurohacking, or even worse, providing a pathway for random EMPs to induce excess current and thereby fry not only the implants but the neural system as well.

Interesting article, in the sense that it reveals a lot about the people who are drawn to these sort of "hacks". Namely, those who are into this stuff solely to increase intelligence, drive, etc to increase achievement in general tend to be male, whereas a lot of people who spend money on detoxification, de-stressing, and other general well-being type of supplements tend to be female. As has been discussed, men tend to be less risk-averse, whereas women tend to be more sensitive to threats, and that appears to influence the different types of supplements they ingest. It kind of plays into the highly dopaminergic nature of a lot of these ambitious biohacker types, who characteristically have little regard for their own health outside some narrow parameters (another trait generally more common among men). It seems to be part of a general cultural preference for allostsis (that is to say, departures from homeostasis ostensibly to achieve greater homeostasis over the long term- eg initiating fight or flight to catch food or inflammation to fight infections) over homeostasis, which I think in part explains why as time goes on the conditions of existence become increasingly abnormal until the camel's back breaks and there's a major inability of the culture to regenerate itself due to genetic or environmental or cosmic entropy, after which a new environmental equilibrium is established and conditions re-normalize.

TL;DR: are people seriously still obsessed with increasing dopamine when the sperm counts are falling every generation?

The above statement sounds like the Schizoidal Declaration described by Lobaczewski.

Carriers of this anomaly are hypersensitive and distrustful, but they pay little attention to the feelings of others, tend to assume extreme positions, and are eager to retaliate for minor offenses. Sometimes they are eccentric and odd. Their poor sense of psychological situation and reality leads them to superimpose erroneous, pejorative interpretations upon other people’s intentions. They easy become involved in activities which are ostensibly moral, but which actually inflict damage upon themselves and others. Their impoverished psychological worldview makes them typically pessimistic regarding human nature. We frequently find expressions of their characteristic attitudes in their statements and writings: “Human nature is so bad that order in human society can only be maintained by a strong power created by highly qualified individuals in the name of some higher idea.” Let us call this typical expression the “schizoid declaration”.
Lobaczewski also describes the typical Leftist/Libtard that we see melting down all over the place; they, too, appear to be Schizoid psychopaths:

When they become wrapped up in situations of serious stress, however, the schizoid’s failings cause them to collapse easily. The capacity for thought is thereupon characteristically stifled, and frequently the schizoids fall into reactive psychotic states so similar in appearance to schizophrenia that they lead to misdiagnoses.
He then describes them further, along with the probable cause of their disability:

The common factor in the varieties of this anomaly is a dull pallor of emotions and a feeling for the psychological realities of this essential factor in basic intelligence. This can be attributed to the incomplete quality of the instinctive substratum, which is working as though on sand. Low emotional pressure enables them to develop proper speculative reasoning, which is useful in non-humanistic spheres of activity. Because of their one-sidedness, they tend to consider themselves intellectually superior to “ordinary” people.
And then:

On the small scale, such people cause their families trouble, easily turn into tools of intrigue in the hands of clever individuals, and generally do a poor job of raising the younger generation. Their tendency to see human reality in the doctrinaire and simplistic manner they consider “proper”, transforms their frequently good intentions into bad results. However, their ponerogenic role can take on macro-social proportions if their attitude toward human reality and their tendency to invent great doctrines are put to paper and duplicated in large editions.
The problem with this guy's declaration about aligning with "Knowledge" is that, for such people, "Knowledge" is what they create. They aren't really interested in REALITY, except insofar as they can manipulate it.
