I got rid of my high blood pressure drug!

Thank You Psyche, I will definitely look into that book.

Hi Mr Premise! The "Agua de Jamaica" is the natural kind. We buy the actual flower and boil it, then add stevia. It's very delicious :).
Great idea. I'm going to stop by a Hispanic store and get some flowers.

The Connection Between Insulin Resistance, Salt and High Blood Pressure

Story at a glance:
  • Over 95% of the country is metabolically inflexible, and insulin resistance is a causal driver, with hypertension a frequent co-morbidity
  • According to conventional thought, salt induces high blood pressure by making your body absorb more water. Excess sodium in your blood absorbs water, thereby increasing the amount of blood filling up your vessels. As a result, your heart must work harder, hence your blood pressure goes up. However, the increase in blood volume is not really an excess sodium problem per se. The problem is that too much sodium is being retained due to excess insulin (insulin resistance)
  • Lowering your sodium intake isn’t the answer. In the long run, that may result in higher blood pressure, because your body has a built-in rescue mechanism that responds to low sodium in ways that results in vasoconstriction and increased stress, both of which ratchets up blood pressure
  • Oftentimes, a deficiency in the other electrolytes (calcium, potassium, and magnesium) are part of the problem. Your sodium-to-potassium ratio is particularly important for healthy blood pressure
  • Estrogen dominance is also pervasive and frequently contributes to high blood pressure by interfering with carbon dioxide production, thereby lowering blood oxygen levels. Estrogen can also interfere with your body’s production of progesterone, a hormone that helps maintain normal blood pressure by regulating your blood sugar level and reducing inflammation

I was diagnosed with high blood pressure around 2014. I've been on many different medications since then. The medications did bring down the pressure somewhat, but not enough.

About 6 months ago, I caught myself holding my breath for no apparent reason, and since then I have noticed I have been doing it quite a lot though out the day.

Now whenever I am about to see the doctor and he measures it, or I am about to measure it myself, I focus on breathing slowly and evenly, then my blood pressure is perfectly fine.

I'm not sure whether it would be wise to stop the medications at this point though.

I notice that I hold my breath when I'm about to do something that I think might cause pain, so was just wondering about what is happening or what you are doing when you hold your breath? In any case, polyvagal theory teaches that you can control heart rate with breathing so I guess that would also impact blood pressure.

Anxiety? I catch myself doing it at times and have realised I do it when I am feeling anxious and overwhelmed.

I'm not too sure if it is anxiety, but it probably is. I'll have to be more mindful of it, but thanks for your thoughts. My Mother says she catches herself doing it too.

My pressure is now regularly around 130/80 mm Hg!!! Incredible!
Of course, the Big Pharma influence incrementally restricts what "normal" numbers are. It is now 2023 and 130/80 has long since been redefined as "high blood pressure." Needless to say, this helps sell more drugs.
