Offcourse not every episode will be the same and animations might come in play, but I will let you know.
Perhaps it would be a good idea to develop a design manual (a guide for overall structure) making it easier to organize and communicate to the team. To make clear what elements differ and what will be a repeating part of the model, to make a plan. I liked the initial idea of making a power point presentation, because from such simple structure and timing with basic design it becomes much clearer what is needed. FWIW.

Having experience collaborating on a lot of musical projects, I've found that if there is an initial, strong idea or direction laid out by the individual who's baby it is, that the other's play supporting roles and help in any way possible and leave it at that. Sort of like extension's of the person. However, I've also found that sometimes the initial idea can sometimes become more than originally thought when it's opened up to the ideas and critiques of the other members and becomes everyone's baby (when ego's are involved that can really slow down or halt the process).
In my old band we were 2 guitar players and there was no clear definition of who was to play lead or rythm it just sort of interchangably happened and mostly the compositions became bigger than the original riff. Looking back though we could have had clearer marking of who did what when, as the soundscape did have a tendency to muddy up. In recent school works I've had the learning experience of a series of two contending ideas meeting to cancel each other out in a weak compromise. To me it seems like the main reason was of course ego's, but specifically the inability to compound a structure to meet upon a set of definitions, by being emotionally entangled and identified in ones supposedly creative area.

In an ideal setting perhaps; the group with a common aim would have parts that knew their individual strengths and weeknesses aswell as how the intergroup linkages were arranged. In 3d we seem to need a conductor showing the lead, a head<heart<DCM navigator with solid feedback support from the conscientious group body, to steer within the medium.

The episodes where we review the diet books, powerpoint presentation with animations would be excellent for example. What I have noticed from personal experience and talks with classmate, which are people between the age of 17-25. Most young people lose interest fast if a film/presentation is static and monotone. So if we use powerpoint for those book episodes it would have to be fun, exciting and helpfull at the same time.

So you can (if you want) take the lead on the episodes that consists out of powerpoint presentations and I wil take the lead on episodes where I do the presentation in front of the camera and turgon takes the lead on the scripts (if he wants? - cleaning the scripts of errors). What we would have to agree on is that we do not pass the 5 minutes rule(unless it's really really needed) and that we stay close to the scripts as much as possible.

If you like getting the lead on powerpoint episodes Parallel, I will devide the series in powerpoints and presentations in front of the camera.

Actually I meant using powerpoint as a basis for fleshing out an episode and in turn the series, like an animatic (a timed stroyboard) to be built upon to the final format. To me it's a bit confusing to do some in live presented format and others in powerpoint form- not impossible, just seems a bit inconsistent, the idea being unclear to me. I'm sorry but don't have the time or mental space atm for doing any scriptwork or editing, animations is a familiar process and could be done with relative ease (from after next week) if I knew exactly what was needed. I'd suggest doing a kind of schematic overview of how you'd like the series to unfold; basic headlines and overall format, to see what specific elements are needed from others.

That's cool. I will write a format guideline next week for how I would see it unfold so that it can give a more detailed overview.

Hi Parallel, I have given some thoughts about the whole editing/effects style and the powerpoint episode and I decided to stay with the fast cutting style on those episodes as well and leave out complicated animations or whatever. That way there is one consistent style of editing that will be used each video.

So in short: All episodes will follow the format of the introduction video.

The Paleo Diet Series Guideline:

Duration episodes: Max 5 minutes.

Target audience - age: 17-30.

Editing style: Fast cutting. Presentation in front of the camera in combination with voice overs. See introduction video as example.

Music: The intro music used in the introduction video will be used in every episode. No other music will be used since YouTube seems to react very quickly when they notice copyrighted music is playing on videos and take them down.

Effects Style:

• Images

During talks pictures will be shown to strengthen the effect of words. See video introduction for example.

• Text Effects

Text following the words that are spoken. See end of introduction video as example.

Episode 0: Introduction.
Editing: Fast cutting.

Episode 1: Gluten.
Editing: Fast cutting.

Episode 2: Dairy.
Editing: Fast cutting.

Episode 3: Artificial Sweeteners.
Editing: Fast cutting.

Episode 4: Soy & Corn.
Editing: Fast cutting.

Episode 5: GMO Foods.
Editing: Fast cutting.

Episode 6. History - Our Paleo Ancestors.
Editing: Fast cutting.

Episode 7. Book - Primal Body - Primal Mind. Part 1
Editing: Fast cutting.

Note: So how would this work? Well, while a powerpoint presentation would work great and is easy to use I have decided to skip the whole powerpoint idea and stay with the modern fast cutting style which will be the standard editing format for each video.

Episode 8. Book - Primal Body - Primal Mind. Part 2
Editing: Fast cutting.
See above.

Episode 9. Quiz Time ( a fun game to check if everyone is paying attention so far!)
Editing: Fast cutting.

Episode 10. The Journey So Far. - A summary of Season 1
Editing: Fast cutting.

So this is what it’s currently at:

• Doing script writing
• Searching images relevant to the topic of the episode
• Searching videos (medical zooms into the body, such as zooms into the brain, the gut, the hearth etc.) (the youtube links written in a word document and then uploaded on dropbox so that I can download it)

All of these go in the dropbox folder. I hope this all makes it more clear.

Hey Bo, thanks for the update. Wasn't sure what direction you were going to take it so I paused on adding anything more to the dropbox file. I'll continue with what I was doing previously - adding images, videos and article links to the dropbox file and start on the rest of the scripts, unless you have some ideas in mind for them.

Not sure either, there's just so much information in PBPM. Right now, as I read through the book, I'm putting in a wordfile what I think is the most relevant information/quotes. When I'm done I'll try and filter it a bit more (there's a lot already and I'm not that far into the book) then send it your way to go through it.

Hi Bo. Just to clear up what I meant regarding powerpoint use; a way for you to structure and time the script, like a screenplay to build your live presentation upon, clarifying what elements would be needed where and for how long (as an internal guide for production, not the final format). I'm not sure how you structure your production; I guess you gather related bits, write script, improvise from script, edit the recording some and see what elements are needed or fit, then edit some more? Doable for sure, but the method does not cater for external (from your mind) post-production efforts striving to become mid-production efforts.

My Xmas/January exams are closing in and will be preoccupied around that. Late january will perhaps fit well with the production schedule as it could look like it will be a while before a cut format would be ready, to examine from, what specific animation elements (lengths, angles and so forth) would be needed, if at all (seeing that stock footage or your own work could cover it). Not trying to be 'production-nazi' just trying to conserve energy for the right timing :). Best wishes to the spirit of work, Turgon and Bo .

Hi guys

just to give an update, these 1,5/2 months have been very busy months for me so I couldn't get to film the other episodes. I can start with the filming again from Jan. 21 . Anyway I recieved an assignment from school to create a short action movie of 10 minutes with 5 other classmates, I recieved the role of the producer. We had to create a script, shotlist, breakdowns, basically everything. Even had to hire real actors(not very pro ones, but still). School gave us a budget of 300 euro :D. So the whole process of creating , producing, and editing has almost reach it ends.

In any case this school assignment was actually very fun but also extremely tiring, even got the flu at one point, but I healed within 2 days. Nevertheless I learned quite a lot of stuff about how to organize and create films better, so might even help us better with this diet film.

:cool2:
