Hey hlat,
Does your coconut milk contain Guar Gum or Xantham? Either of those additives, which are commonly found in coconut milk, can cause hives and skin rashes in your children among other things.
Here is a quick and simple recipe I did for the first time today and it was the best coconut milk I've ever tasted. And without the guar gum or intestinal discomfort i've experienced in the past with coconut milk. Also if that isn't the culprit you could try substituting ghee or clarified butter (milk solids and proteins removed) for the regular butter.
The ghee butter can also be done at home with a butter source you trust. I've used this method. _http://nomnompaleo.com/post/15235810877/d-i-y-ghee
