I didn't say it was a cognitive dissonance per se, which also ties to rationalization as you've already mentioned, alchemist :) _http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rationalization_(psychology) Actually, from it this quote caught my attention:
In a similar way, acts of aggression will often be seen as 'reasonable, well justified, even necessary...rationalizing their self-interest in these ways'; so that, to cite 'Martin Luther King, Jr...."It seems to be a fact of life that human beings cannot continue to do wrong without eventually reaching out for some rationalization to clothe their act"'.
The same may be said of the collective scale. 'When groups commit aggression, they, too, rationalize their acts with high-sounding words...rationalizing their own self-interested desires',[22] so that, for example, 'Their own God is the right God. The other God is the strange God....Our own soldiers take care of the poor families; the enemy rapes them'.
And I can't explain to you more clearly what you want to know. I'm still thinking about it. In my post I wrote my thoughts and impressions. That's all.
And I don't think about that it was an act of direct aggression against Syria (or Russia) when missiles were supposedly fired by the US and Israel. But I have an impression that something unexpected did happen. I don't know what. Maybe, it was just timing that was unexpected. Or something else? Anyways, this incident looks like testing some of those long radar systems that are already in place. Sorry, it's not clear yet. Just thoughts, again. :)
