June 19th: Health and Wellness Show: The Truth About Tobacco with Richard White

theos

The Living Force
Smoking is hazardous to your health and causes lung cancer... but is that really true? Is tobacco and cigarette smoking really the scourge that Big Pharma, the media and millions of people around the world believe it to be? Today we'll be talking with Richard White, author of Smoke Screens: The Truth About Tobacco. We'll examine studies on smoking, what researchers have to say, the scientists involved in the anti-smoking movement, previous attacks on smoking, the origins of the anti-smoking movement, the diseases said to be caused by smoking... and more!

Join the hosts at 10am EST.

Excellent! It sounds like there will be some great debunking of anti-smoking nonsense.
I can't wait for the show :headbanger: :cool2:

Hi guys. I have a question. I know that SOTT can be translated into other languages by clicking the relevant flags at the top, but can that be done for the forum? I think I read a while back that this wasn't possible & non-English speakers would have to learn how to speak it. Can't really remember if it was a dedicated thread on that subject though. I ask because I have a colleague who has health problems (mainly diabetes) & they speak primarily Portuguese. Communication is tricky & I've had to learn Portuguese (slowly & not enough time to learn it properly) to accommodate them. Fortunately they speak Italian & French as well as Spanish, but we're both around the same level when it comes to these languages. IOW not very good. Even though they seem to be a gentle soul (I've worked with them closely for a year now) I'd still like to not fully introduce them to the forum.

I've given this some thought for a number of weeks & figured I should introduce them to SOTT & if attentive & aware enough, they'll find the forum via the active links, which aren't even hidden. I also thought to email links to specific SOTT articles on Health & Wellness to be externally considerate, no need to bombard them with a dearth of information. The forum discussions are just so priceless in every way though.... any advice guys?

Oh great, will also be tuning in to another fascinating show - can't wait too! :cool2:
Can't say that I've heard of Richard White, but this show will be a great intro no doubt.

Sounds like it's gonna be another outstanding show! SOTT Talk Radio Shows rock! Man, I have so many past shows to still catch up on. I'm going to try to catch this early one of the next few mornings (unfortunately, I can never listen to any of them live). Thanks for putting all these great programs together, y'all. :)

Yeah, Tiffany did a great job with the interview today. I encourage everyone to check this episode out. Lots of good info! :cool2:

Unfortunately the audio is a bit choppy in the beginning, but stick with it, it evens out. The hazards of blogtalkradio and skype... :/

Yeah but I'm going to save it until tomorrow morning, with a cup of coffee and a smoke

Hi Ascien,

The content of Sott is not translated into other languages.

When you click on a specific flag, you go directly to the Sott page for that language and the content of that page is really specific for that language. The Sott editors for each language publish articles that are similar and in the same "philosophy" that the content of the English one but they are not translated.

Cant wait to listen to this one guys! I have been waiting/hoping for a show on tobacco ever since the Health and Wellness shows started. Thanks!

Great show guys!! We really enjoyed listening to it. Some of the talking points are very digestible for our daughter too. (She sometimes gets questioned about isn't smoking bad for you?!?) And while we don't encourage her to exhaust herself arguing with those that can't be moved, I know that hearing this show will help her when E.V.E.R.Y.O.N.E. and their mother grills her about smoking.
Just a general question: how young should children be "allowed" to smoke? I live in the US and here, I believe, it's still 18 to Buy them, but I was wondering if any other forum parents have teenagers that they let smoke when they are with them.
I didn't smoke until I went to college, but I was raised in a strict no smoking household.

Personally, I don't think there is anything wrong if a kid smokes. I think they would have to be old enough to have developed some responsibility in their own decision making. But that's in an ideal world. I do think it could be potentially dangerous in the US though, since we live among psycho-fascists and authoritarian followers. Anyone who had a gripe with a parent who allowed their child to smoke (or even just a staunch, self righteous anti-smoker) could use it as an excuse to call child protective services and possibly take the child away. There was just an article on SOTT where CPS was involved with removing a child from their family because they thought one of the parents smoked too much (there may have been some other factors too, but this seemed to be the driving force). So, probably better to just wait until the child figures they really want to smoke and hides it from you. :cool2:

I agree, however, it's also technically illegal in the US for a minor to buy, receive, or possess tobacco. So, I don't know how old your daughter is Magpie, but do take heed of the laws where you are and stay safe in that regard. I doubt anyone would be going to jail, but CPS does reach for these kinds of things as justification for their actions, and there are also a lot of authoritarian followers who really enjoy calling the authorities on people...

I started listening to it. Tiffany, you sound great. I love your accent! :)

Look forward to hear the rest! :cheer:
