This one hit home. It brought a tear to my eye, because I identify with these poor people. I know the type of thinking that drives them to continue injecting this poison even thought their flesh is rotting off of their bones. In the distant past I have had dangerous abscesses on my arms yet soldiered on with my addiction because it (the drug) was literally the only reason I was living.
What to do about it? It is so hard to plant a seed in a hopeless addicts' head that there is more to life than ripping and running. The heart can become covered in scar tissue so quickly that nearly nothing gets through.
There is always a choice, of course, but we all know that mis-education, upbringing, narcissism, and abuse conspire to lead young people down the easy path of negativity and self-absorption.
This is very sad.
