Slovenian journalist writes to Juncker: Stop supporting criminals and terrorists in Macedonia

http://www.minareport.com/2017/12/05/slovenian-journalist-writes-to-juncker-stop-supporting-criminals-and-terrorists-in-macedonia/

Popular Slovenian journalist Joze Biscak has written an open letter to EU Council president Jean-Claude Juncker accusing the EU machinery of involvement in the coup that first removed a legitimate Macedonian Government and today of actively supporting a genocidal policy against the majority Macedonians in the country by the installation of a criminal Government with open ties to terrorist networks in Kosovo and Albania, says Biscak

MPs and common citizens among which are actors and opera singers have been jailed and ridiculously accused with “terrorism” charges, is this the democracy you were looking for? Biscak asks Juncker.

“Your man Zaev is now seeking to free hardened terrorists who attacked the city of Kumanovo in 2015. Again, the goal is the same, to create a wider conflict. The government junta now in place already freed terrorists who sought to create conflict back in 2012 by executing five Macedonian teens near a lake. The goal of your junta is only to create a conflict, and this is who you put in power and support!?” asks Biscak, adding “The only European countries who defend European culture are Hungary and Poland, and you attack them relentlessly, have you got no shame?”.

In the end, Biscak tells Juncker:

“Now you are attacking Macedonia! First, you destabilized the country with your Euro MPs, then you installed in power individuals with lengthy criminal history! In the name of what exactly! The elites!? The left? Soros? Feminism? Flowers in hair? Migration? Or simply in the name of money. And what is the goal of your corrupt friends? You will push Macedonians in a civil war. For Macedonian patriots defeat is not an option. Macedonia has a lengthy history of brave and proud people who love their country and nation. Macedonia was the last line of defense between the civilization and the barbaric hordes. You want to destroy that? Because now the borders are slowly opening up.

Do something, and stop Zaev, he is trampling on the rights, on the human rights of all Macedonians. If you do this, your sins will be forgiven, half of them, maybe, just maybe one day you can knock on the door of the righteous with clear conscious. Otherwise, you’ll burn in hell. I won’t pray for you” – says Biscak in his letter to Juncker.

Macedonian judges like prostitutes, you can buy them for $50

http://www.minareport.com/2017/12/04/macedonian-judges-like-prostitutes-you-can-buy-them-for-50/

Swarovski pendants and crystals not costing more than $50 and promises for glorious future that includes summer vacations to America’s armpit (Florida) is enough for judge Liljana Ivanovska – Shopova to repeatedly break the law in order to satisfy requests from the US Embassy.

Denesen reports that judge Ivanovska-Shopova did not allow defendants to have a say during Court proceedings, instead in each case allowed only the SPO’s prosecution team to speak. This is illegal as the judge is not allowing the defendants to defend themselves from the dubious charges filed against them.

http://denesen.mk/web/sudijkata-ivanovska-shopova-tselosno-nakloneta-kon-sjo-ne-im-dava-zbor-na-advokatite-na-obvinetite/

Ivanovska-Shopova as a Court president allowed conversations illegally acquired and edited by the CIA to be used in building a case against Gruevski, even though the law strongly forbids such things.

Ivanovska-Shopova is releasing from jail proven terrorists, but approved the jailing of actor Vlado Janevski, opera singer Igor Durlovski and 140 other individuals simply for expressing support for their country.

Appellate Court succumbs to political pressure, accepts SPO’s requirements without any argument

http://english.republika.mk/appellate-court-succumbs-to-political-pressure-accepts-spos-requirements-without-any-argument/

The Skopje-based Appellate Court has decided that wiretapped conversations can be used as evidence in the Special Prosecutor’s Office (SPO) case “Titanic” over election irregularities.

A public session was held in the court on Monday, at which former minister of interior Gordana Jankuloska and former minister of transport and communications Mile Janakieski said they had been victims of the wiretapping and urged against the use of these conversations as evidence.

SPO representatives stressed that the wiretapped conversations were not illegally obtained and could serve as evidence in the case.

The SPO lodged an appeal to the October 20 decision by the Criminal Court to reject the wiretapped conversations as evidence in the case.

“Titanic”, the first case unveiled by the SPO, refers to crimes related to election irregularities. Former PM Nikola Gruevski, former minister of interior Gordana Jankuloska, former minister of transport and communications Mile Janakieski, former PM’s office chief Martin Protogjer and former government secretary-general Kiril Bozinovski are indicted in the case.

They are suspected of criminal association, violation of voting rights, violation of the freedom of choice, election bribes, destruction of election materials and abuse of election campaign funds.

MHRMI Demands Implementation of its Solution to the Anti-Macedonian Name Dispute

http://macedoniaonline.eu/content/view/32859/1/

What if the Ukrainian government announced that Ukrainians and Ukrainian history are really Russian, agreed to change its name, made Russian an equal and bilingual partner in Ukraine at the expense of its Ukrainian character and territorial integrity, called for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to be subservient to the Russian Orthodox Church and joined its oppressors to imprison its own people just for standing up for their ethnic and national rights? The Western world's response, as we have seen before, would be one of outrage and it would be swift in defence of Ukraine, despite what its corrupt and gutless government has agreed to.

But why the opposite in Macedonia? Because, since independence in 1991, Macedonia has agreed to negotiate the non-negotiable – the truth about our name and existence. Now we are in a position where everything Macedonian is being sold to our oppressors. MHRMI has repeatedly demanded an end to the anti-Macedonian name negotiations. We warned of the consequences, and they have arrived.

But, there is a simple solution to the anti-Macedonia name dispute and the recent selling-out of our human rights, name and identity. End the name negotiations and vehemently defend our most basic of human rights – our right to exist – and the world will defend us instead of aiding our oppressors.

Some Macedonians inexplicably claim that Macedonia will not survive without EU membership. Why Macedonia would want membership in an economic union that other countries are either leaving or suffocating under is mind-blowing. NATO membership, for better or worse, was guaranteed in 2008, except for the ludicrous one-country veto rule. MHRMI President Bill Nicholov said,

"I've met with US Foreign Policy advisors who claim that Macedonia 'must' change its name and identity because of NATO and EU technicalities. In other words, it's easier to force a country and its people to change their name/identity than to change a NATO/EU rule that aids our oppressors."

If Macedonia wants to achieve NATO/EU membership, the solution is to demand support for our basic human rights and either call for a change to the ridiculous one-country veto rule (as Canadian Foreign Ministers and former US President George W. Bush have suggested) or demand that current member-states pressure Greece to refrain from using it. The anti-Macedonian 1995 Interim Accord stipulates that Greece is not permitted to deny Macedonia entry into any international organization, so when Greece vetoed Macedonia's NATO membership in 2008 it rendered the Interim Accord null and void. The International Court of Justice subsequently sided with Macedonia and ruled that Greece, indeed, violated the Interim Accord. Yet, there were no repercussions against Greece, and Macedonia still acts as if it is still “obliged” to negotiate away its name and identity.

Imagine that Montenegro, as an EU and NATO member, vetoed another country's membership that all other member-states supported. This would not be permitted and Montenegro wouldn't dare defy its more powerful co-members. Macedonia should be vehemently defending its right to exist while insisting that the EU and NATO uphold their own self-proclaimed basic principles of human rights.

The solution is simple – defend Macedonia. As MHRMI's Our Name Is Macedonia campaign states, END the name negotiations NOW. This will end the overarching issue that is wreaking havoc in all aspects of life in Macedonia. Consider this message:

"To Macedonians living in the Republic of Macedonia – My family was forced to learn Greek. Now YOU are being forced to learn Albanian, while declaring that you're “really Bulgarian ”. They fought oppression to preserve our MACEDONIAN identity. WILL YOU?"

Process of changing Macedonia’s name begins in Brussels today

http://english.republika.mk/p189987/

United Nations envoy in the Macedonia-Greece name issue Matthew Nimetz is set to meet December 11-12 in Brussels with countries’ representatives, Vasko Naumovski and Ademantios Vassilakis respectively.

“The meeting is part of the United Nations’ efforts to assist the sides in finding a mutually acceptable solution to the name issue”, Nimetz’s Office said in a press release.

Macedonia’s representative Naumovski will be accompanied by a diplomat from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as will Greek official Vassilakis.

The fresh round of talks takes place amid improved relations between the two countries and optimism in Skopje and Athens, but also Brussels and Washington, to put an end to the long-standing row.

The last round of UN-mediated talks with the countries’ representatives was held in New York in November 2014.

Nimetz: After so many years, no new magical name can solve the issue

http://english.republika.mk/nimetz-after-so-many-years-no-new-magical-name-can-solve-the-issue/

The name issue can and should be resolved next year, UN mediator Matthew Nimetz stated Tuesday in Brussels after Tuesday’s talks with Macedonian and Greek negotiators Vasko Naumovski and Adamantios Vassilakis, MIA reports.

“After so many years, no new magical name can appear from nowhere and solve the issue. The solution will be found with political will and good diplomacy,” Nimetz said.

According to Nimetz the climate for resolving of name issue has been definitely improved both in Greece and in Macedonia. He said that today’s talks in Brussels are held in a good atmosphere. He announced that the talks will be intensified in the next period with new meetings in New York, in January, February and March.

“Certainly, there are difficult issues for both sides, but we will try to resolve them in the next months,” Nimetz said.

Nimetz assessed that governments in Athens and Skopje put the resolving of the name issue high on their agendas and intend to continue to work on improvement of mutual relations.

Nimetz said that he did not put forward a new proposal at today’s talks, held following a three-year break.

“New Macedonia” to be discussed in Brussels: Greek TV

http://english.republika.mk/new-macedonia-to-be-discussed-in-brussels-greek-tv/

“New Macedonia” is the proposal to be discussed at the meeting of United Nations envoy Matthew Nimetz with the representatives of Macedonia and Greece in Brussels, Greek TV station “Star” reports.

The report claims that the path for the name issue’s settlement in the first half of 2018 would open if Skopje agreed with the proposal.

A name including a geographic qualifier such as “Northern Macedonia” is not acceptable for Greece, because this would “not prevent Skopje’s irredentism, implying the existence of Southern Macedonia, which is also not acceptable for Bulgaria”.

“Star” comments on the proposal’s acceptance within the government, especially PM Tsipras’s coalition partner Panos Kammenos, who has opposed the inclusion of word ‘Macedonia’ in the name of the northern neighbor. Regarding the opposition New Democracy, the TV station says the PM would not face major problems, since the proposal would be acceptable for some opposition MPs.

Greek media report that Monday’s working dinner of envoy Nimetz with countries’ representatives Ademantios Vassilakis and Vasko Naumovski did not take place because the mediator failed to arrive in time due to the poor weather conditions at the Brussels airport.

The fresh round of talks is planned for Tuesday, followed by a press conference of envoy Nimetz.

Macedonia’s representative Naumovski will be accompanied by a diplomat from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as will Greek official Vassilakis.

The last round of UN-mediated talks with the countries’ representatives was held in New York in November 2014.

US Ambassador Jess Baily replaces State Electoral Commission members

http://www.minareport.com/2017/12/12/us-ambassador-jess-baily-replaces-state-electoral-commission-members/

All members of the State Election Commission (SEC), except the newest one from BESA party, Ermira Asani-Salija resigned from their posts.

DPMNE-nominated SEC members Silvana Boneva and Saso Srcev were the last to tender their resignations on Tuesday, following the suit of SEC Vice-president Rexhep Prekopuca and members Atanas Urumov (experts) and DUI-nominated Subhi Jakupi,

SEC president Aleksandar Cicakovski and SDSM-nominated members Violeta Duma and Igor Milev resigned on Monday.

The resignations come as US Ambassador Jess Baily gave the nod that new SEC members are needed as he revealed that commission members had awarded themselves up to 12,000 euros in bonuses for their activities in recent election cycles and following an online public petition demanding their resignations.

The whistleblower wasn’t the taxation office within the UJP or any other Governmental body, the whistleblower was the US Ambassador!?? No one in the Macedonian media asked this basic question: how is it possible for a foreign ambassador to have knowledge of financial data in the SEC? Is it the new software (donation of USAid-CIA) that was installed prior to the elections at the SEC which allows the US Embassy direct access to data and live voting results?

The term of the nine SEC members expires in 2020.

Zaev refused aid for Macedonians, gives Albania 100,000 euros in flood aid

http://www.minareport.com/2017/12/12/zaev-refused-aid-for-macedonians-gives-albania-100000-euros-in-flood-aid/

Macedonia’s government at its regular session on Tuesday has earmarked MKD six million (about EUR 100,000) in financial support and additional humanitarian aid to flood-affected regions in Albania.

This move is seen as ironic by Macedonian citizens as the same Government refused to give any aid to quake victims in Ohrid and Resen, and then refused aid to victims of devastating fires in both eastern and central Macedonia.

At least one death was confirmed and travel was brought to a halt by widespread flooding that swamped many parts of Albania in early December. Continued rain and flooding prompted the evacuation of 600 families in two of the country’s southwestern districts, local media reported.

More than 3,000 homes, 56 schools and 16,000 hectares of agricultural land have been flooded. Many roads and 28 bridges have been damaged. Albania’s authorities have started calculating the damage to consider financial compensation, the reports said.

Zaev: Possible solution of name issue, NATO and EU integration

http://mia.mk/en/Inside/RenderSingleNewsNewsCategory/61/134017787

The Government is creating conditions for national consensus with key decision-makers - the President and the opposition - towards accelerating Macedonia's NATO integration, said Prime Minister Zoran Zaev on Wednesday.

"At the same time, we are committed to finding ways in overcoming the problem that Greece has with the name of our country. We believe this is possible through an inclusive approach at home, accompanied by building a positive atmosphere of good neighborly relations and cooperation with Greece", Zaev said in an address at an event organized by the Euro-Atlantic Council of Macedonia.

Therefore, he added, we rightfully expect that Macedonia is the next Alliance member-state, along with an invitation for the start of EU accession talks in the first half of 2018.

"Over 75 percent of our citizens favor Macedonia's EU and NATO membership. The Government, supported by the citizens and international partners, traces the country's path to NATO", said PM Zaev.

According to him, Macedonia would always give a positive contribution in any initiative that results in broader and better regional cooperation.

Zaev addressed the final conference of project "Strengthening youth dialogue for democracy promotion in light of the Euro-Atlantic integrations", implemented by the Euro-Atlantic Council of Macedonia and supported by CIVICA Mobilitas.

"Close to 60 percent of youth encompassed in the research believe their opportunities will increase through the achievement of this objective. Other research indicators point to the fact that youth is not sufficiently involved in the Euro-Atlantic integration processes", said Zaev and added now is the time to change this.

Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi said the name dispute prevented Macedonia from joining NATO in 2008, while politicians are the one who need to solve this issue.

"I am convinced that the incumbent Government and the parliamentary majority has decisively launched the process that brings us back on the Euro-Atlantic integration track", stressed Xhaferi.

Euro-Atlantic Council of Macedonia president Ismet Ramadani said the organization is non-governmental, but it is pro-government if the government is pro-NATO.

"The chance we have now, 10 years after the Bucharest summit, should be taken. The Government has the support on this path, but Macedonia should reduce problems in interethnic relations, neighbors, tolerance for corruption and crime to zero", added Ramadani.

The event of the Euro-Atlantic Council of Macedonia, which celebrates its 20. anniversary, was attended by ambassadors, organization's representatives from Serbia, Kosovo, Bulgaria, and students.

Greek media: ‘New Macedonia’ the name proposed by FYROM, Greece to agree

http://english.republika.mk/greek-media-new-macedonia-the-name-proposed-by-fyrom-greece-to-agree/

“New Macedonia” is the name that the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) has proposed, and Greece is said to agree, in order to end the decades-long name dispute, according to a Star television report on Wednesday.

The report – claiming exclusive information from Brussels – said that the two sides and mediator Matthew Nimetz, the UN official responsible for the negotiations, agreed to using “New Macedonia”, a name proposed by the Skopje government.

The name “New Macedonia” was proposed in 1992, but was rejected by the Greek side at the time. Another proposal later was “Northern Macedonia”, also rejected by Athens because it appeared irredentist implying that there is also a “Southern Macedonia”.

The report says that Greece has agreed to the name change, and the announcements are to be made in the spring of 2018.

During the four-day meeting of the Balkan country leaders, the Greek prime minister said that the Athens-Skopje dispute over the name of the neighbouring country, will be resolved within 2018.

Your Excellency,

We call on you as Macedonians and scholars, as people who are concerned for their home country, the Republic of Macedonia. Considering your pledge to respect and support the sovereignty of all nations, we ask you to turn your attention to the fundamental issues in the dispute which puts our very name in jeopardy.

According to the United Nations Security Council resolutions the point of the talks between the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Greece is to overcome the differences over the name of our country. These talks, which have been going on for two and a half decades, would ideally have represented the arguments of the two sides – counter Greek arguments to the Macedonian arguments, allowing that the issue is cleared up.

But, in fact, the height of Greek intransigence on the issue was recently expressed by the Greek President Pavlopoulos, when he said that the very use of the word “Macedonia” in the official name of our country, represents irredentism. Pavlopoulos presupposes that Macedonia has territorial claims on Greece and is taking over the cultural heritage of the ancient nation of Macedonia, which, Pavlopoulos believes, belongs exclusively to Greece.

Greece’s position towards Macedonia goes back to the Bucharest treaty in 1913, when parts of the region of Macedonia were given to Greece, leading to the expulsion of Macedonians, and Greek refusal to recognize the existence of the Macedonian minority. Even today, the Greek Government refuses to accept the human rights of the Macedonian national minority that lives in this country.

In the spirit of good will, Macedonia made a number of concessions, to show that it harbors no irredentist claims. Between 1992 and 1995 Macedonia changed its state flag, which symbolized the Sun of Vergina, and also amended its Constitution to clearly state that it has no territorial claims toward its neighbors and will not interfere in the sovereign and domestic issues of neighboring states.

On its part, Greece obliged itself, with the 1995 Interim Accord, to recognize Macedonia under an interim reference name, “the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia”, to normalize relations between the two countries and not to object to Macedonia’s membership in international, multilateral and regional institutions, provided that this interim reference name is used. This has been underpinned by the UN Security Council resolution 817.

Greece proceeded to completely disregard this obligation it undertook when it blocked Macedonia from NATO membership at the 2008 NATO Summit in Bucharest. As a sovereign and independent country, Macedonia wants and has the right to implement its strategic goals. In that line, Macedonia has the right to become a NATO member, and to open EU accession talks, regardless of its name.

A court case in front of the International Court of Justice in the Hague found that the Greek position on Macedonian alleged irredentism is unacceptable on several counts. The court recognized the Macedonians right to self-determination, the right to national uniqueness and to develop a Macedonian consciousness based on the Macedonian history. The court rejected Greek accusations of irredentism and claims on Greek territory. The Hague verdict made all future discussions irrelevant, but Greece still maintains in its positions. Talks to overcome the name issue have continued under UN auspices, with UN appointed mediator Matthew Nimetz.

Even though the talks are held over the internationally used refference, Greece requests that Macedonia changes its own constitutional name, that is in domestic use. Given the statements made by Greek politicians, Greece currently demands that the change of the constitutional name is acompaneid by changes in the derivative pronouns (Macedonian), the name of the Macedonian language, acronyms and abbreviations, brand names and names of traditional farm products. The Macedonian identity, developed over centuries in the heritage of the people, in the language, culture and history, are all put on the chopping block. The name expresses the identity which has developed over centuries in the ethic territory of Macedonia.

Changing the name of the country means changing the name of the language and all associated names and identifications. It prevents our future national self-identification.

In justification of these requests, Greece constantly goes back to these alleged irredentist drives in the Republic of Macedonia. President Pavlopoulos recently brought this issue to a fever pitch, saying that the very name, Macedonia, represents irredentism, despite the fact that Macedonia has never shown any irredentism claims, without a single incident Greece could point out to.

This has turned the Macedonian name dispute into an absurd issue, especially given the internationally accepted principles of national sovereignty and patriotism as a constructive political approach. The UN charter, which is accepted by all UN members on accession, determines the sovereignty of nations, which gives the Macedonian nation its right to self-determination. We stand in defense of our name, our national heritage, of the Macedonian language and identity. All the presented arguments show that our name is not and cannot be objectionable, the talks are pointless and need to be abandoned.

We thank you for your kind attention, and we hope for a positive response.

Yours sincerely,

Skopje’s air pollution is breaking records, the situation is alarming, and the level of dangerous PM10 particles is very high. The capital is tops the list of the most polluted cities in the world.

Cities in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Mongolia, China … are far behind the capital of the Republic of Macedonia on the list. The Macedonian metropolis topped the air pollution list before cities like Delhi and Calcutta in India, Lahore in Pakistan, Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia, Chengdu and Beijing in China.

Xhaferi admits April 27th Parliament coup was organized by SDS and DUI

http://www.minareport.com/2017/12/16/xhaferi-admits-april-27th-parliament-coup-was-organized-by-sds-and-dui/

Macedonia’s illegitimate Parliament speaker Talat Xhaferi in an interview with AlSat admitted himself, Zaev, Oliver Spasovski, Zijadin Sela and Ali Ahmeti held a meeting on April 24th in which their activities for the 27th were discussed.

The illegitimate Parliament speaker went on to say that they knew there would be people storming Parliament, hence it was decided Ali Ahmeti not to be present inside Parliament.

We knew people will enter Parliament. I met with Zaev, Spasovski, Sela and Ahmeti to discuss our steps for the 27th. It was decided Ahmeti to skip the session out of concern for his safety” stated Xhaferi for AlSat Tv.

The SDS and DUI did not have the necessary votes neither to elect Xhaferi nor to form Parliament, as at least 8 MPs from SDS and DUI fearing for their safety were not present. Therefore, the most votes they could have had were 57, while 61 were needed. This means both the formation of Parliament ‘majority’ and Government is illegal, meaning any laws or regulations brought in by the current Parliament and Government are illegal.

What is even more disturbing is the fact DPMNE MPs and dozens of protesters have been jailed for an event that was organized by SDS and DUI police structures.

Meanwhile, Sela’s Government participation has been reduced by 1 MP. Zijadin Sela admitted one of his MPs has crossed into DUI and AA is now left with 2 MPs. It’s also said that Sela will no longer have Minister of Health, as the role will go likely to Zaev’s close friend Venko Filipce.

Bieber: EU has no mechanisms that would press Greece on the name issue

http://english.republika.mk/bieber-eu-has-no-mechanisms-that-would-press-greece-on-the-name-issue/

At Tuesday’s briefing on Macedonia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration, Florian Bieber, Professor of Southeast European History and Politics and Director of the Centre for Southeast European Studies at the University of Graz, Austria and Coordinator of the Balkans in Europe Policy Advisory Group (BiEPAG) emphasized that the next year offers opportunities for substantial transformation of the region, which stagnated over ten years in relation to the European perspective.

“At our last briefing, we said that this is the moment not only for Macedonia, but also for the region, to renew the enlargement, to recognize the moment. Now there is a chance that this process will no longer be never ending story, but a story with a clear goal and deadline,” Bieber said.

He underlined that the process in the BiEPAG study on Macedonia, is seen through three pillars, the continuation of the domestic reforms, enhancement in regional cooperation and the EU support.

He said that EU has no mechanisms that would force one member state not to influence on entry of a candidate country as in the case of Macedonia in regard to the name dispute with Greece.

Greek FM Kotzias: Name dispute must be settled by compromise

http://mia.mk/en/Inside/RenderSingleNews/323/134028782

Skopje-Athens name dispute must be settled with a compromise, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias says in an interview with the state-owned ERT (Hellenic Radio-Television).

'It is necessary for fyRoM to demonstrate a culture of consensus and compromise, which means neither we nor them could get everything. We must come to a compromise that is acceptable for both parties and one that will stand the test of time,' Kotzias says.

He refuses to share details about the name negotiations, commending the fact that neither UN mediator Matthew Nimetz nor Skopje put own proposal on the table. He also reaffirms the stance that Greece's northern neighbor cannot join NATO under the provisional name.

Asked to comment ANEL leader Panos Kammenos' statement that his party will not accept a name that includes the term 'Macedonia' and whether such stance will affect the name negotiations, Kotzias says everybody is entitled to own opinion, but a possible agreement on the name 'requires a parliament majority, not a majority of parties.'

'We are a government that is here to resolve matters. If the way we make our decisions are in line with the country's, region's long-term interests and European spirit, we should do that,' Kotzias says.

He reiterates his stance that that it would be good for the name issue to be settled in the first half of 2018, as more favorable conditions are in place for reaching a mutually acceptable solution. There is no reason to delay the solution, Kotzias says, adding that it is up to Greece's government to find a window of opportunity for settling the matter, as the country must not be held hostage by the past.

'Those who criticize us for wishing to solve the problem must realize that it would have been much better for the country if it was done back in 1992. Those who call us to account are the same one who failed to take their historic responsibility to solve the issue due to their indecisiveness,' Kotzias says.

Kathimerini: Kammenos draws line at use of term ‘Macedonia’ in name

http://english.republika.mk/kathimerini-kammenos-draws-line-at-use-of-term-macedonia-in-name/

The right-wing Independent Greeks (ANEL), which is the junior party in the coalition government led by leftist SYRIZA, appeared on Monday to dampen optimism generated by the revival of United Nations-sponsored talks between Greece and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) over the lingering name dispute between the two states, MIA cites Kathimerini daily.

Speaking from the Dalipi military camp in the northern port city of Thessaloniki, ANEL leader Panos Kammenos said his party will not consent to a name that includes the term “Macedonia.”

Kammenos, who is also defense minister, said that during a meeting of Greek political party leaders under then president Constantine Karamanlis in 1992, it had been agreed that the use of the word “Macedonia” was a nonstarter for Greece. Deciding otherwise would require a fresh meeting under the current president, he added.

However, in 2007, in what was seen as a big compromise, Greece announced it would consent to use of the word “Macedonia” in a composite name.

Opposition from ANEL would mean that Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’s SYRIZA would have to rely on other parties in the case of a parliamentary vote on the issue.

Dimitrov: National consensus and holding of referendum on name issue

http://english.republika.mk/dimitrov-national-consensus-and-holding-of-referendum-on-name-issue/

It is necessary to build a national consensus over name issue and many of those elements of the national consensus are not clear right now, Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov said Tuesday.

“We are working intensively on building a consensus, which should include citizens, political factors, institutions, all. The process is open and lasts. It is important that this process to be completed, because in such a way Macedonia’s position will be stronger,” Dimitrov said.

He stressed this at Tuesday’s briefing on Macedonia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration, with Florian Bieber, Professor of Southeast European History and Politics and Director of the Centre for Southeast European Studies at the University of Graz, Austria and Coordinator of the Balkans in Europe Policy Advisory Group (BiEPAG).

Dimitrov said that name issue is of such nature that cannot be solved without the citizens.

Commenting the statement by Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi that Parliament has the legitimacy to decide in the direction of resolving and avoid holding of a referendum on the name, Dimitrov said the referendum is an election promise of all major parties.

“The (name) issue is of such nature that if it cannot be resolved sustainably, if the citizens are not asked, if there is no consensus, if there are inter-party battles, our position will weaken,” Dimitrov said.

The statement of ANEL leader Panos Kammenos, who said his party will not consent to a name that includes the term “Macedonia,” Dimitrov assessed it as a statement of other century.

“I think that such statements do not lead to a solution, it is a fact that our concern should be what we can do from our side. Our responsibility is to achieve a national consensus. Who and what kind of position has in the government coalition in Greece is their responsibility. This is 2017, we are in Europe and such an attitude is not appropriate and distance us from resolving the problem, Dimitrov said.

He did not discuss about specific proposals, whether name with a geographical qualifier is acceptable for the state officials, by which the identity will be protected, or the mentioned “New Macedonia”, noting that if he discuss about possible proposals in this phase, he can only harm the efforts in that direction.

He expects Macedonia to be included in the Accession Strategy of the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker.

DPMNE announces it will block border crossings in protest of jailing innocent civilians

http://www.minareport.com/2017/12/18/dpmne-announces-it-will-block-border-crossings-in-protests-of-jailing-innocent-civilians/

DPMNE announced today it has continued the blocking of several intersections across Skopje in the face of revolt over the political persecution by the SDS-led government. Citizens who protested announced that the blockades would continue until unjustly detained individuals were released.

-As you already know, the public is informed that there will be continued protests which will last until the release of everyone who is unjustly imprisoned in connection with the events of 27 April. At the same time, we want to point out that we are very worried because the condition of one of the detainees according to our unofficial information is getting worse daily, because he is on a hunger strike for more than 12 days.

They said that if the government does not stop this political revanchism, the announced blockades at all intersections in Skopje will continue in the coming days.

-If there is no quick resolution on the part of the government, it is very possible that these blockades will be radicalized in terms of blocking of border crossings, highways, and highways throughout Macedonia – stated DPMNE.

Angjusev: Northern, Upper or New Macedonia are acceptable options for me

http://english.republika.mk/p190515/

The name issue needs to be solved and people should decide whether this is Northern, Upper or New Macedonia. These options are all acceptable for me, Vice Premier Koco Angjusev told the weekend edition of Kanal 77 radio show “Stadion”.

Angjusev says the name problem is an internal issue and relates to business, because economic prosperity requires rule of law and stable political situation, namely EU and NATO accession.

“This means a name compromise. The Government possesses the capacity and responsibility to discuss this topic, there are also positive signals coming from the international community and Greece. The Macedonian identity and the language is the red line from which there should be no concessions. Regarding the name, we should incorporate a certain qualifier that would be internationally acceptable. People should decide whether this is Northern, Upper or New Macedonia. These options are all acceptable for me,” says Angjusev.

Regarding tax hikes, Angjusev elaborates that the Government is not mulling an increase of the VAT, profit tax, property tax, but only the personal tax among high-income individuals, thus creating a proper social balance in the country.

He says there is over-employment in the public administration, but lack of professional staff, which will be solved through a so-called ‘soft mechanism’.

“For example, if a plant owner wants to take staff from the administration, he/she will be compensated in the amount of 20 percent of the salary given to the employee. This is the mechanism used to prevent people from being laid off. We expect to solve this surplus in the administration numbers over a period of 1-2 years”, claims Angjusev.

He knows new VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickovski well, since they both come from the ranks of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

“I encourage the opposition to be strong, because a country can go astray without it, as was the case over the past 11 years. I wish VMRO-DPMNE to come out of this situation, which would be beneficial for the entire community and society in general”, underlines Vice Premier Angjusev.

Zaev: The best time to solve name issue is by mid-2018

http://english.republika.mk/zaev-the-best-time-to-solve-name-issue-is-by-mid-2018/

Name talks still lack substance, however there is commitment to solving the name issue, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said Tuesday adding that the most favorable time to settle the row would be the first half of 2018.

Commenting about a statement of Koco Angjusev, Deputy PM for economic affairs, involving the name issue, Zaev said he had took the liberty of commenting the name alternatives openly. “The citizens should be aware that the government will be transparent in the process.”

On Saturday, Deputy PM Angjusev in an interview with a local radio station said the name issue should be settled.

“Northern, Upper or New Macedonia – it is up to the people to say what they think. In my opinion, Northern, Upper or New are acceptable qualifiers,” he said stressing that the name row also affected the economy.

I’m a democrat, I respect different opinions. We haven’t yet delved into the essence of the talks with Greece. I hope it will be concluded with a final solution… The name process, mediated by (UN envoy) Matthew Nimetz, so far has produced a determination, as shown by the two parties, to commit more to settling the issue Greece has involving the name,” stated Zaev.

I believe, he added, that a solution will be found at every level, between the ministers of foreign affairs, and between us, the premiers.

“The first half of 2018 is an excellent time to finally find a solution to the problem and for Macedonia to move forward, i.e. to get a date for start of EU accession talks and to become a member of NATO,” PM Zaev said answering journalist questions.

Asked to comment on a statement of the Alliance of Albanians (AA) leader, Zijadin Sela, who said that his party would quit the government coalition once the law on the use of languages was adopted, Zaev said he expected to continue to cooperate so as to allow reform implementation in the country.

He said he wasn’t concerned with the ‘thin’ majority in Parliament. It is in fact, the PM added, a sound thing for Macedonia and I don’t plan on being focused on elections next year, I plan on being committed to the pledged we made to the public.

“After announcing the party is going to leave the government, I hope we will be able to continue to cooperate in pursuing reforms, the law on languages, ratification of the friendship treaty with Bulgaria, laws requiring ‘two-third’ majority, and in being committed to improving the overall quality of life in Macedonia,” PM Zaev told reporters in Prilep.

President Ivanov: Fake news is basis for tensions and conflict

http://english.republika.mk/president-ivanov-fake-news-is-a-basis-for-tensions-and-conflict/

It is high time to face the truth that generating and broadcasting fake news in the media, on the internet and on social networks, without monitoring or measures for civil and criminal liability, is a basis for tensions and conflict. Those who provoke damage by generating fake news must be held responsible. Positive European examples should be implemented in our case as well, said President Gjorge Ivanov in his annual address in Parliament on Tuesday.

The main actors in this war are the fake news and rumors generators, whose aim is to cover up their own incompetence and divert the attention elsewhere. We have seen certain institutions and officials creating cases based on fake news and false information. They went insofar as to blame me of planning to declare a state of war. Instead of reading Chapter 7 that lays down the conditions for declaring state of war and state of emergency, they try to impose a fake image and create a public perception enabling them to build a case based on deceit. Unfortunately, some journalists and social network users became instruments for transmission of their lies, he said.

He said that in the past three years, more than 30% of the identities of our intelligence agents have been uncovered.

This has provoked detrimental consequences in the form of failed operations in the country and abroad, jeopardizing lives and destroying the agent network for data collection, he said.

It is time to reintroduce public decency in public debate. There is no better or more adequate place for that process to begin, than this house of democracy. The media should also give an example. The Republic of Macedonia needs free, independent and professional journalism, and not media outlets that function as exponents of political parties and place fake news.

Therefore, it is necessary to improve public and parliamentary ethics as the basis for a dialogue that will later on be able to prevent polarization and radicalization of society.

What is also necessary is an uncompromised fight against corruption and organized crime. Everyone should be responsible for their actions, since a just society is built through a responsibility that is not vague or general, but rather personal and specific. On the other hand, our prisons are full, and the conditions within are desperate. All of this speaks volumes about the situation in our judiciary system, Ivanov said.

Sela leaves the Government, AA deputy ministers resign

http://english.republika.mk/sela-leaves-the-government-aa-deputy-ministers-resign/

The deputy ministers of the Alliance for Albanians have resigned, Telma has reported.

The Alliance leader Zijadin Sela confirmed to Telma that Deputy Foreign Minister Arta Toci and Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Remzi Memeti resigned, adding that they will submit their resignations today or tomorrow in writing.

We are leaving the government because the contract we had with Zaev has been violated. It is obvious that this is done under the pressure of Ali Ahmeti, who establishes the same principle of rule and coalition as was the case when Nikola Gruevski was the Prime Minister, Sela told Telma.

Another reason, according to Sela, is the Law on Languages, which has not yet been adopted, and it is on the agenda of a parliamentary session that will be held no later than the end of January.

PM Tsipras expects concrete steps from Skopje: Greek daily

http://english.republika.mk/pm-tsipras-expects-concrete-steps-from-skopje-greek-daily/

Steps towards mutually acceptable agreement, to rename the airport in Skopje, and to dislocate the monuments hinting at irredentism, a public statement on accepting a composite name for overall use, are some of the demands of Athens for Skopje aimed at closing the name issue, Real News reported.

The Greek newspaper has published an article in which a seasoned journalist is conveying the expectations of Alexis Tsipras from Macedonia without citing an official statement from the Greek Prime Minister.

“The message to Skopje is to take concrete steps to pave the way for an agreement over the name issue allowing the neighboring country to integrate in NATO first, followed by a membership to the EU… Make steps toward a mutually acceptable agreement,” Tsipras tells Skopje, according to the Greek media outlet.

Athens from the Zoran Zaev-led government expects to start making moves in practice, instead of in theory, which will lay a foundation for substantial talks on the name issue, writes Real News.

According to the daily, these steps, i.e. demands from Greece to Macedonia, are concrete referring to renaming of the Skopje airport, dislocating those monuments deemed having irredentistic tendencies, namely the monuments of Alexander the Great and his father Philip II, and securing a clear position from Skopje that it is accepting negotiations for a composite erga omnes name, with the latter being of great importance for Athens.

“All the names mentioned before have been put at the negotiating table with UN envoy Matthew Nimetz. Athens has no positive attitude towards the name proposals such as Northern, Upper or New Macedonia, recently mentioned by the Deputy PM, Koco Angjusev. They imply that two or more Macedonias exist. It is worth mentioning that members of the government in Athens positively view the proposal Macedonian Republic of Skopje,” the Saturday’s edition of Real News reports.

Greece will not embark on substantial talks over the name unless Macedonia makes concrete steps. “Unless Skopje demonstrates sincere approach to reaching compromise, then Tsipras with the help of (FM Nikos) Kotzias seems to be determined to make a step toward settlement in the first half of 2018 ahead of the NATO Summit,” Real News writes.

OPEN LETTER FROM MICHAEL SPRINGMANN: Macedonians, consolidate the ranks and start to act - the United States intends to break the country!

http://infomax.mk/wp/%D0%BE%D1%82%D0%B2%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%BE-%D0%BF%D0%B8%D1%81%D0%BC%D0%BE-%D0%BE%D0%B4-%D0%BC%D0%B0%D1%98%D0%BA%D0%BB-%D1%81%D0%BF%D1%80%D0%B8%D0%BD%D0%B3%D0%BC%D0%B0%D0%BD-%D0%BC%D0%B0%D0%BA/

Michael_Springmann.jpg

Michael Springman, the man who unveiled the US strategy to train terrorists to whom he was ordered to issue visas while attaching to the US embassy in the United States, sent an open letter calling on the people of Macedonia

"Macedonians, note well what is planned for you. Through their diplomats in Skopje and the State Department in Washington, the United States intends to break up your state by dividing its territory into Albania and Bulgaria. Just recall that the United States and its creation are NATO and attacks on Yugoslavia. Dissatisfied with this destruction, America now finds ways for greater action in the Balkans: the re-attack of Serbia and the destruction of what remains of Macedonia are aimed at satisfying the Greeks and blocking any Russian or Chinese influence.

Certainly George Soros, the billionaire and man behind the colorful revolutions, will be the only one to profit from this disaster, just as his NGOs did with the migrant crisis.

You know that the incumbent US ambassador to Macedonia, Jess Bailey, is a remnant of Obama's old administration. As far as I am informed, it is close to Victoria Nuland, the engineer of the neo-Nazi punch in Ukraine. His most likely successor will be Hoyt Brian Lee. You remember him. Several times he came to Skopje in the capacity of Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau for European and Eurasian Affairs. It has been present several times in Skopje to put pressure on the leadership of the state in order to install the extremist and ex-terrorist Talat Xhaferi as president of the Assembly.

When the Macedonian people and parliamentarians loyal to their country rebelled and entered the Assembly, Zaev, in the style of Adolf Hitler, closed them with an explanation that they were terrorists. This proved that the Prime Minister, the Special and the Public Prosecutor's Office work out of the law.

So, straighten the ranks and react! "- Michael Springman, a former US diplomat in the embassy in Saudi Arabia, and a man who, on the orders of his superiors, issued Osama bin Laden's visa in the formation of the terrorist group Al Qaeda .

Zaev’s Government coalition near collapse

http://www.minareport.com/2017/12/29/zaevs-government-coalition-near-collapse/

Zoran Zaev’s Government is facing collapse after BESA, the Alliance of Albanians removed their directors from all Government positions after the SDS decided to appoint Venko Filipce as the new Minister of Health, leaving AA’s Zijadin Sela without a ministerial position.

AA now has 2 MPs listed as “independent”, and 1 who changed teams and moved to DUI which essentially keeps the Government coalition alive, currently at 60 MPs – which means they have no majority in the 120 seat Parliament.

To complicate things further, the DPMNE is boycotting parliament and there isn’t a political party available that would brought up a no-confidence vote which would result in dismissal of Zaev’s government and early elections.

Macedonian political analyst believe the situation is quite serious considering the fact that the SDS can bring up a and pass a vote on any part of the Tirana platform. One of the analysts Aleksandar Dashtevski says that while the SDS can not pass any important laws (NATO, EU, name change…) for which 2/3rds of Parliament is required, they can still do much damage by implementing the Tirana Platform, such as the latest efforts by Zaev to remove the border between Macedonia and Albania and Macedonia and Kosovo.

“Zaev will be kept in power until most of the Tirana platform is passed, which include the federalization of the country. Then he will be removed because he will no longer be needed”.

Dashtevski believes the AA and BESA may enter in coalition with DPMNE, considering the broken relationship between Sela and Zaev and BESA and the SDS.

It was the three votes by Zijadin Sela which allowed Zaev and the SDS to form a Government. The challenge now is, should there be snap parliamentary elections, even bigger electoral fraud is expected with the SEC under SDS control which could easily result in Zaev getting 75-80 MPs. This of course will lead to the SDS unilaterally changing Macedonia’s name.

President Ivanov: In the new year, I wish for everyone to love our common homeland the Republic of Macedonia

http://english.republika.mk/president-ivanov-in-the-new-year-i-wish-for-everyone-to-love-our-common-homeland-the-republic-of-macedonia/

President Gjorge Ivanov says Sunday he expects Macedonia in 2018 to get on the right track leading to a better life, prosperity and well-being for all citizens. In a New Year’s address, he also says he hopes for a fair society founded on ‘truth, freedom and peace.’

“Allow me to wish you a happy new year sending you sincere wishes for good health, more joy, bigger successes and a better tomorrow. Zaev wishes everyone “Have a New Year” from Solun

http://www.minareport.com/2018/01/01/zaev-wishes-everyone-have-a-new-year-from-solun/

Citizens of Macedonia – some at home with family and friends others at parties in pubs, restaurants or clubs – welcomed the New Year.

The City of Skopje cancelled the New Year’s outdoor event which was supposed to take place in ‘Macedonia’ square. Funds planned to organize the celebration will be donated for unspecified charity.

The Municipality of Center in Skopje organized a party on New Year’s eve in downtown Skopje with performances by Macedonian bands and pop singers.

Money collected at the party will be donated to a 16-year old teenage boy, who needs a bone marrow transplant and to be operated in Italy.

The Macedonian capital has been decorated in a festive spirit throughout December.

The SDS leader Zoran Zaev invited himself to a new year event in Solun, hosted by the city’s mayor Yiannis Boutaris. During the event, Zaev wished everyone at the event to “Have a New year”.

Macedonian social media users vented their frustration online that Zaev’s presence in Solun cost taxpayers 100,000 euros, considering he wasn’t even invited to the event. Some hinted it is an SDS tradition to spend important moments in Solun, alluding to the fact the SDS leadership went to Solun during Macedonia’s independence vote.

The new DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski spent his holidays in Strumica.

Greek PM optimist in name row, urges deeds not words

http://english.republika.mk/greek-pm-optimist-in-name-row-urges-deeds-not-words/

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is an optimist regarding the name issue, but expects concrete steps from Macedonia, MIA reports from Athens.

“I am an optimist that we can manage the issue that we inherited from previous governments in an efficient and responsible way. I believe steps towards a way out of the impasse can be made as long as there is real wish from the other side,” Tsipras said in an interview with Greek radio Real FM.

However, he said the issue required deeds and tangible results, not words.

“Foreign policy needs restraint, not excessive talking. I prefer deeds rather than words”, added Tsipras.

Greek gov’t spokesperson: Kammenos won’t be obstacle to name solution

http://english.republika.mk/greek-govt-spokesperson-kammenos-wont-be-obstacle-to-name-solution/

Greek government spokesperson Dimitris Tzanakopoulos in the interview with the state broadcaster ERT expressed hope that 2018 could be the year when name issue would be closed, MIA reports from Athens.

He said this year a window of opportunity exists for a solution and called the opposition New Democracy to recall on inter-party disagreements in 1992 precisely due to the name and explained that Panos Kammenos would not be an obstacle to the solution.

During 2018, taking into consideration positive position of the political leadership of FYROM, there is a window of opportunity for resolving the problem which has not been resolved for already 25 years both in our country and in the neighbouring country. My view is that we need to use this window of opportunity, we need to find the most adequate conditions and the most appropriate process in order to head towards the solution to the problem, Tzanakopoulos said.

In regard to the position of the coalition partner in the government, Panos Kammenos and his position that he will not accept use of term Macedonia in the name, Tzanakopoulos explained that parties that have different positions and different political origin cooperate in the government, but assessed that leader of Independent Greeks will not be an obstacle to the agreement.

Kammenos also said something else that once there is a total consensus in the political system, he himself will not be an obstacle to resolving the issue, Tzanakopoulos explained, adding that according to his assessments, there will be a possibility to accomplish as broader as possible consensus in Greece aimed at seizing the window of opportunity for resolving the problem with a complex name.

Tzanakopoulos in the interview commented the stance of New Democracy, which strives for the government to come up with common position on the name. He said that the opposition party forgets its story, forgets that it played huge role in 1992 for the issue to remain unresolved for 25 years, MIA reports.

Tzanakopoulos reminded New Democracy that Konstantinos Mitsotakis, as prime minister, and Antonis Samaras as foreign minister as part of the same one-party government had two different positions at meeting of political party leaders.

Boutaris: Name issue derailed because of politicians’ nonsense

http://english.republika.mk/boutaris-name-issue-derailed-because-of-politicians-nonsense/

Politicians’ nonsense is the reason that the ‘name issue has been derailed,’ says Thessaloniki mayor Yiannis Boutaris in an interview with the radio station of ANA-MPA news agency.

“There is no greater Macedonian than me because of my background,” says Boutaris, most probably in reference to Greeks declaring themselves as Macedonians, not Macedonians from Macedonia, MIA reports from Athens.

According to him, the name issue has been derailed due to the politicians’ nonsense.

“People want to find their identity. Through concessions from both sides, but also from the opposition, they are prepared for compromise. Mr.Zaev said he will change the name of the airport, street signs”, says Boutaris.

Regarding the New Year’s dinner with the Macedonian PM in Thessaloniki, he says neighbors should foster good relations.

“We had planned a private dinner. I invited him to spend the New Year’s Eve in Thessaloniki. His brother and his friends come to Thessaloniki on a weekly basis. We discussed a trip on the Vardar sometime in April, maybe with a joint crew. Secondly, we agreed on cultural exchange involving dance, music and lectures, both in Skopje and Thessaloniki. We also referred to scholarships provided by the Thessaloniki municipality,” stresses Boutaris.

Independent Greeks to support name compromise: MP

http://english.republika.mk/independent-greeks-to-support-name-compromise-mp/

A deputy of Independent Greeks (ANEL), the Greek government’s right-wing coalition partner, has suggested the party could support a compromise solution over the name dispute with the Republic of Macedonia, daily Kathimerini reports.

“ANEL will obey to what the majority decides. We shall respect the principle of majority rule, should the majority go against the national interest,” Costas Katsikis said on Tuesday.

ANEL chief Panos Kammenos has repeatedly said in the past few weeks he would not back a solution that would include the term ‘Macedonia.’

Greek organizations campaigning against term ‘Macedonia’

http://english.republika.mk/greek-organizations-campaigning-against-term-macedonia/

Latest developments between Macedonia and Greece and the optimism in the two countries that the long-standing name dispute could be solved in 2018 have mobilized Greek patriotic associations and organizations, MIA reports from Athens.

Protests in northern Greece, resolutions, petitioning, demands for referendum and rejection of any name including term ‘Macedonia’ are part of the activities within campaign dubbed “Macedonia means Greece”. :rotfl:

The Greek Federation of Cultural Associations of Macedonians and diaspora associations are the campaign organizers, covered by about 60 media from the country’s north.

They have already registered a website, produced a video clip, sent resolutions to the country’s top officials and announced a gathering in Skydra on Wednesday, whereas a large event is to take place in Thessaloniki in about a month.

Representatives of The Greek Federation of Cultural Associations of Macedonians met with President Prokopis Pavlopoulos by the end of November, presenting a resolution over the exclusion of term ‘Macedonia’ in the name and urging for a referendum on the issue.

As of December, the organization is also petitioning for a resolution to be forwarded to Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras. The petition deadline is 31 January.

The campaign also includes a clip saying that Macedonia has been an indispensable part of Hellenism for 3,000 years, highlighting ‘Macedonia means Greece’. :rotfl:

Greek TV stations Star and Skai have reported over the campaign, besides the 60 media outlets, mainly websites and radio stations from the north of Greece.
