Maradonna : "Putin is simply phenomenal"

He says: (looked it up)

"A phenomenon, he's simply a phenomenon. I think that Putin – after [Hugo] Chavez, and Fidel [Castro], – together with [Ariel] Ortega and Evo [Morales], represent the 'top league' of political leaders. Putin is a man who can bring peace to many in this world," said Maradona, answering a journalist's question.

Didn't know he was so much into geopolitics, I thought he was more into rehabs.

First sober moment I ever saw of him.

Tenths/ hundreds of millions of people absolutely adore him. Having been considered the best footplayer in the world and all. Good for him for telling the truth.

This feeling when you want to give Maradonna a high five...

Thank you for the translation bjorn!

I think the important part is also the fact that many of those "hundreds of millions of people who absolutely adore him" have, well, a very mainstream opinion about Putin. When someone like Maradonna endorses Putin many of those who bought into the mainstream view are likely to actually look some facts up as a result of cognitive dissonance.

I know I myself went through a similar process a couple of years ago. And look, here I am :D

I only realize now that subtitles are in French. I really need holidays. RT published an article here: https://www.rt.com/sport/394876-putin-trump-maradona-moscow/ but I do not find the video with English subtitles.

Yeah, that why I thought it could be an interesting article.

Maradonna was a genius on the pitch but has had many problems off it. Didn't realise he was on the ball politically speaking. His comments probably won't make any difference to people in the west especially here in the uk. It is refreshing to hear his comments though.

Further in the interview Maradona said about Trump, that he CANNOT (with words and the head) see him in a politic context,
and Trump it's much more for him a cartoon character, a comic.

One side, Putin is simply phenomenal, the other side Trump is a comic.
« un poco con la cabeza de Maradona y otro poco con la mano de Dios » (The two goals scored by El Pide de Oro against the English during the 1986 World Cup, including one with his hand).

I thought it said Madonna.
Now that would have been surprising.

Not so surprising for the spanish-speaking audience. He had talked many times about politics, he gave support to Castro and Chavez several times in the past years as well as to the former Argentine government. Only that this time he talked about a more internationally popular and famous leader such as Putin thereby his words became more widely spread.

It will be interesting to see if there will be some attack from the PTB and their pawns to him in response for his supportive words for Putin.
