Nearly a hundred firefighters gathered at the scene after a massive blaze erupted on the fifth floor of a luxury block of flats on Inglewood Road in West Hampstead, London, local media reported.

"Fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters are tackling a flat fire on Inglewood Road in West Hampstead," the London Fire Brigade said in a statement.

The fire reportedly started at 1:00 a.m. (12:00 a.m. GMT) at the top floor of Welbeck Mansions.

There were no immediate reports on any casualties or how massive the damage is.

Several hours later, the city fire brigade said that the fire was brought under control.

"The West Hampstead fire is under control. The London Ambulance have confirmed that no one was taken to hospital as a result of this incident," the authority tweeted.

Firefighters evacuated residents from the fifth floor over concerns that the roof could collapse inward. Two people were rescued from the first floor and a number of others left the lower floors.

Last summer, a devastating blaze at the Grenfell Tower high-rise in western London claimed lives of 72 people after they were trapped in their flats, as flammable cladding used on the building quickened the spread of the fire.
