Miami Police Shoot, Kill Man Eating Another Man’s Face

I just saw this article about cannibalism in this blog. But this is a very disturbing article, with many horror stories put together under the same subject. So your discretion is advise.

My alarm clock is a radio, so I wake up to the news everyday. Today, first thing I heard was this story about the human foot that was sent to the offices of the Canadian conservative party in Ottawa, and then how a headless torso was found in a suitcase in Montreal, and other body parts in another box that was to be mailed (the police did not disclose where):

http://www.sott.net/articles/show/246077-Second-Body-Part-Intercepted-by-Canadian-Post

[...]

I did not go looking for this news, they all seem to be happening now. Sick insanity, indeed!

There is an update on sott, that there is a suspected pornstar sending these body parts:

http://www.sott.net/articles/show/246123

FWIW the alleged pornstar Magnotta got arrested in an internetcafe in Berlin, Germany and is considered also sending body parts to two schools in Vancouver. Currently there are several other news published in different directions, that he may was a member of scientology or just liked it and also liked to abuse animals. He filmed many "things" he had done and published some on the internet.

Nonetheless the handing over to Canadian courts could take several years?!

Only if he decides to contest it but for the time being he has not.

Apparently Rudy Eugene had Marijuana in his system, here is an article that collates the many instance of this madness: _http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2155816/Is-Cloud-Nine-zombie-apocalypse-Police-issue-warning-new-drug-TWO-cannibal-attacks.html

"Zombie Virus" Possible via Rabies-Flu Hybrid?
Highly improbable genetic tweak could create mutant virus.

Published October 27, 2010

In the zombie flicks 28 Days Later and I Am Legend, an unstoppable viral plague sweeps across humanity, transforming people into mindless monsters with cannibalistic tendencies.

Though dead humans can't come back to life, certain viruses can induce such aggressive, zombie-like behavior, scientists say in the new National Geographic Channel documentary The Truth Behind Zombies, premiering Saturday at 10 p.m. ET/PT. (National Geographic News is part of the National Geographic Society, which part-owns the National Geographic Channel.)

For instance, rabies—a viral disease that infects the central nervous system—can drive people to be violently mad, according to Samita Andreansky, a virologist at the University of Miami's Miller School of Medicine in Florida who also appears in the documentary.

Combine rabies with the ability of a flu virus to spread quickly through the air, and you might have the makings of a zombie apocalypse.

Rabies Virus Mutation Possible?

Unlike movie zombies, which become reanimated almost immediately after infection, the first signs a human has rabies—such as anxiety, confusion, hallucinations, and paralysis—don't typically appear for ten days to a year, as the virus incubates inside the body.

Once rabies sets in, though, it's fatal within a week if left untreated.

If the genetic code of the rabies virus experienced enough changes, or mutations, its incubation time could be reduced dramatically, scientists say.

Many viruses have naturally high mutation rates and constantly change as a means of evading or bypassing the defenses of their hosts.

There are various ways viral mutations can occur, for example through copying mistakes during gene replication or damage from ultraviolet light.

(Related: "New, Fast-Evolving Rabies Virus Found—and Spreading.")

"If a rabies virus can mutate fast enough, it could cause infection within an hour or a few hours. That's entirely plausible," Andreansky said.

Airborne Rabies Would Create "Rage Virus"

But for the rabies virus to trigger a zombie pandemic like in the movies, it would also have to be much more contagious.

Humans typically catch rabies after being bitten by an infected animal, usually a dog—and the infection usually stops there.

Thanks to pet vaccinations, people rarely contract rabies in the United States today, and even fewer people die from the disease. For example, in 2008 only two cases of human rabies infection were reported to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

A faster mode of transmission would be through the air, which is how the influenza virus spreads.

"All rabies has to do is go airborne, and you have the rage virus" like in 28 Days Later, Max Mogk, head of the Zombie Research Society, says in the documentary. The international nonprofit is devoted to "raising the level of zombie scholarship in the Arts and Sciences," according to their website.

To be transmitted by air, rabies would have to "borrow" traits from another virus, such as influenza.

Different forms, or strains, of the same virus can swap pieces of genetic code through processes called reassortment or recombination, said Elankumaran Subbiah, a virologist at Virginia Tech who was not involved in the documentary.

But unrelated viruses simply do not hybridize in nature, Subbiah told National Geographic News.

Likewise, it's scientifically unheard of for two radically different viruses such as rabies and influenza to borrow traits, he said.

"They're too different. They cannot share genetic information. Viruses assemble only parts that belong to them, and they don't mix and match from different families."

Engineered Zombie Virus Possible?

It's theoretically possible—though extremely difficult—to create a hybrid rabies-influenza virus using modern genetic-engineering techniques, the University of Miami's Andreansky said.

"Sure, I could imagine a scenario where you mix rabies with a flu virus to get airborne transmission, a measles virus to get personality changes, the encephalitis virus to cook your brain with fever"—and thus increase aggression even further—"and throw in the ebola virus to cause you to bleed from your guts. Combine all these things, and you'll [get] something like a zombie virus," she said.

"But [nature] doesn't allow all of these things to happen at the same time. ... You'd most likely get a dead virus."

Now, when I read this, I was like phew, at least they're just talking about it in a hypothetical manner, but then I just read this:

_http://medicalxpress.com/news/2012-06-rabies-virus-tracks-dopamine-neurons.html said:
A genetically-modified version of the rabies virus is helping scientists at Harvard to trace neural pathways in the brain, a research effort that could one day lead to treatments for Parkinson's disease and addiction.

As described in a paper published on June 7 in the journal Neuron, a team of researchers led by Associate Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biology Naoshige Uchida used the virus to create the first-ever comprehensive list of inputs that connect directly to dopamine neurons in two regions of the brain, the ventral tegmental area (VTA), known for processing reward, and the substantia nigra (SNc), known for motor control.

"You may be familiar with the term connectome," Uchida explained. "The basic idea is we want to understand the brain in terms of connectivity and the various cell types. In this case, we're examining long-range connections; that is, how other parts of the brain connect directly to dopamine neurons.

[...]

The challenge, however, is that dopamine neurons are packed into relatively small regions with several other cell types. To ensure they were only observing dopamine neurons, researchers turned to an organism more typically known for damaging neurons – the rabies virus.

Before they infect genetically-engineered mice with the rabies virus, however, they first inject the animals with a pair of "helper" viruses. The first causes dopamine neurons to produce a receptor protein, meaning the rabies virus can only infect dopamine neurons, while the second restores the virus' ability to "hop" from one neuron to another.

The mice are then infected with a version of the rabies virus that has been genetically-modified to produce a fluorescent protein, allowing researchers to track the virus as it binds with dopamine neurons, and then jumps to the cells that link directly to those neurons.

The results, as depicted in images of a mouse's brain showing the wealth of connections to dopamine neurons, show that a number of brain regions – including some previously unknown areas – are connected to dopamine neurons.

"We found some new connections, and we found some that we suspected were there, but that were not well understood," Uchida said. "For example, we found that there are connection between the motor cortex and the SNc, which may be related to SNc dopamine neurons' role in motor control.

"Other connections, though, were more intriguing," he continued. "We found that the subthalmic nucleus preferentially connects to SNc neurons – that's particularly important because that region is a popular target for deep brain stimulation as a treatment for Parkinson's."

Often used as a treatment for Parkinson's and a variety of other disorders, deep brain stimulation involves implanting a device, called a brain pacemaker, into a patient's brain. The device then electrically stimulates specific regions of the brain, helping to mitigate symptoms of the disease.

"The mechanism for why deep brain stimulation works is not completely understood," Uchida said. "There was speculation that it might have been inhibiting neurons in the subthalmic nucleus, but our findings suggest, because there is a direct connection between those neurons and dopamine neurons in the SNc, that it is actually activating those neurons. I don't think this explains the entire mechanism for why deep brain stimulation works, but this may be part of it."

Well, here's a story that seems to fit the mould but with a few slight changes. The drug involved is K-2, aka synthetic marijuana.

'Zombie' attacks continue? Michael Daniel ate family dog after cops say he took synthetic drug K-2

WACO, Texas -- Police in Waco arrested 22-year-old Michael Daniel Monday after they say he ate a dog.
Family members called police on June 14th, saying Daniel assaulted people at the home, chased a neighbor and started barking and growling.

What happened next is horrific.

Witnesses say Daniel grabbed the family dog, beat and strangled it...then started to eat it.

The dog died at the home.

Daniel is believed to have been on a bad trip from ingesting "K-2," a synthetic drug.
He was taken to the hospital and now faces a felony charge for animal cruelty.

I clicked on the link about the man who ate a dog, and I read the comments from readers below that story.

One lady said she was going to buy a gun and aim for the head- in reference to these zombie attacks and also to the idiots in her neighbourhood.

Obviously she is in fear which is understandable. She, like many many others, is clearly also lacking knowledge.

People thinking and acting like this will definitely bring on a police state.

S.O.T.T, i know.

Update on the initial story in this thread: Rudy Eugene was NOT high on bath salts or any other "hard drug".

Causeway attacker Rudy Eugene had only pot in his system, medical examiner reports

Rudy Eugene, the man who chewed off a homeless man’s face on the MacArthur Causeway and was shot to death by Miami police, had no drugs in his system other than marijuana, the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s office said Wednesday.

On May 26, Eugene stripped off his clothes along the causeway from Miami Beach before attacking 65-year-old Ronald Poppo in a ghoulish, drawn-out assault in plain view on a city sidewalk captured by a Miami Herald security camera. Eugene was shot by a police officer who found him chewing chunks off Poppo’s face.

The bizarre details of the attack prompted speculation that the 31-year-old attacker was under the influence of harder drugs. Soon after the incident, for example, the head of the Miami police union publicly speculated that Eugene was on “bath salts,” synthetic stimulants that have been blamed for seemingly psychotic episodes in other cases around the country.

But the medical examiner — after seeking help from an outside forensic toxicology lab — could find no evidence of the common components of “bath salts” in Eugene’s system. Nor did the lab find evidence of synthetic marijuana or LSD.

The medical examiner also found that Eugene had not ingested cocaine, heroin, PCP, oxycodone, amphetamines or any other known street drug other than marijuana — a drug not known for sparking violence.

“Within the limits of current technology by both laboratories, marijuana is the only drug identified in the body of Mr. Rudy Eugene,” the medical examiner’s office said in a press release.

The autopsy initially found evidence of a substance in Eugene’s stomach that appeared to be undigested pills, law enforcement sources told The Herald. But the medical examiner’s press release Wednesday did not address what that substance may have been.

The toxicology findings lend further mystery to Eugene’s unprompted attack on Poppo, the homeless man Eugene found dozing in the shade of the Metromover train tracks before attacking him. Eugene, who worked at a car wash, had a record of minor, nonviolent drug offenses, though he was accused of threatening his mother in a domestic dispute in 2004.

Rikkia Cross, Eugene’s on-again off-again girlfriend, is now convinced that Eugene’s actions are the result of something “supernatural” that afflicted him.

“Somebody did something to him, somebody put something on him. I know for sure that wasn’t Rudy,” Cross said on Wednesday.

Cross last saw Eugene in the early morning hours of May 26, more than eight hours before the attack on the causeway. At about 5:30 a.m., Eugene woke Cross and told her that he was meeting a friend.

Cross said Eugene was acting odd that morning, rummaging through closets. He kissed her goodbye and walked out of their Broward County apartment holding his Bible.

Eugene ended up on Miami Beach — which was hosting Urban Beach Week — where his car apparently broke down. But it’s still unclear what Eugene was doing on the beach in the hours before the attack.

Shortly before 2 p.m. on May 26, motorists began calling police reporting a naked man walking down the road and hanging off light posts. Police later found torn Bible pages strewn along the causeway.

Then Eugene encountered Poppo; Eugene rolled the homeless man onto the sidewalk, pummeling Poppo and removing his pants before gnawing on his face, security footage shows. The entire attack lasted about 18 minutes.

Poppo is recovering at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Which makes one wonder why bath salts were suggested in the first place. What was the convenience or agenda behind blaming a new drug when surely it would have been known that the tox screen would eventually rule it out. One thing for sure, if you never heard of the drug before, you certainly have by now.

I think you have it. "Il fallait y penser!" as the French say. :D

I think that it is also more comforting to believe that people go off into cannibalistic frenzies when they take a certain substance, than considering other factors involved, like solar and cosmic radiation. OSIT.

I don't even think most people have solar and cosmic radiation in their thought process so in absence of such and trying to get a handle on this atrocity, drugs seems to be the only answer for them. It has to be some sort of drug because suspecting foul play by the PTB seems to absurd to them, osit. Unless they are zombie movie fans ;D

I just wonder how much more fear people are going to have now that it's not any hard drug. Or will they just shut down thinking about it at all?

The 12-year-old neighbor boy heard me talking to my mom about a lot of these cases and he was pretty scared but wanted to talk about it. I let him express his fears to me and explained that fear is normal but that really you just have to learn as much as you can about the world so that you can be prepared. He actually seemed a bit relieved after that and the next time he saw me he said he had looked up all the stories I was talking about and how they really were there and how crazy the world is becoming.

I was proud of him for not just listening to my stories, but actually looking it up for himself.

But most people look at you like you are crazy and the world is sane when you bring up the state of things.
