Movies that you'll never watch or watch again

Re: Movies that you'll never watch again

When I was very young (7 or less) my uncle would come home from the Vietnam war and visit for 2-3 days on leave. He couldn't sleep on a bed so he slept on a pallet in the den. I had a pallet too and he would always watch scary movies which I would try to force myself not to flinch from. Anyway, If I remember correctly one of the movies we watched was Rosemary's Baby and that freaked me out to this day. The wierd eyes were the thing that stuck with me the most and I haven't watched it since.

A side note on gore: My wife and I record some TV shows that we watch (Bones, CSI, NCIS, Criminal Minds, etc.) but we have stopped watching most of them because they continue to push the envelope on the truly gross and gory.

That's very true. I stopped watching a lot of tv a while ago, but several years ago I tuned into that show Fringe to see why people were talking about it and I was absolutely shocked at how gory it was. I couldn't believe the progress of the desensitization of the American 'viewing public'. I couldn't finish watching it because it was so violent and gory. Same thing with that show '24' which is nothing but an advertisement for torture. People who watch tv regularly are just soaked in this stuff and take it as normal.

Hmm I'm also avoiding all of Tom Cruises stuff, I've lost any appreciation for his work over time, mostly due to his involvement with Scientology.
Maybe you should reconsider this, Valkyrie was excellent movie and I thought he did great job.

I don't like Tom Cruise either but I do watch his movies from time to time when he does something worth seeing. I never saw Valkyrie but a few other good ones for me were Vanilla Sky, The Last Samurai, Minority Report and Eyes Wide Shut. Though I might have to stick Eyes Wide Shut in the category of movies I'll probably never watch again. But it was very interesting and it was Stanley Kubrick's last film.

And I'm a big fan of the classic fantasy films so I will always love Legend (he did that film when he was still sane fwiw :P)

Actually, I don't mind Tom Cruise. He's a watchable actor, and his films are generally entertaining - one just has to disentangle the story and entertainment value from the fact that they are often not much more than a vehicle for Tom Cruise. The problem I have with him though is that he cannot forget who he is when he's 'acting', and so he never really communicates a character; rather, he communicates: 'I'm Tom Cruise, and I love that y'all are watching me!'. That said, to my mind the only part in which he actually managed to forget who he is and communicate a character was as the vampire L'Estat in Interview with the Vampire, which I found interesting because it is one of only two films where he's played a baddie, the other being Collateral, but in Collateral he's still Tom Cruise. At least that's my take on him anyway.

Re: Movies that you'll never watch again

Children of Men is one movie I'll never see again. It's so emotionally intense and beyond depressing. The premise is so simple (the collapse of society after decades of complete human infertility) and the story focuses on a small group trying to shuttle a pregnant woman to safety through horrible conditions in a militarized police state. It's a movie that I would encourage people to see, but just once.

I feel the same about 28 Days Later; I felt emotionally scarred after seeing it, but the premise does have value. The most frightening thing about these movies is how fragile society is, and how quickly it falls apart, and most of all, how people transform. We would like to believe that in a crisis, people would band together and help each other. Unfortunately, the survivors are just as dangerous as the zombies.

Re: Movies that you'll never watch again

The best horror movies are those of psychological terror, not physical, I mean I would piss my pants in front of a crazy asassin not in front of my TV. also, I don't know why lot of people enjoy those things like saw, and similar.

 I just swore to never watch again Signs with Mel Gibson, but that last scene about the family against the alien is so epic, and the family drama just makes me want to see it again.

Re: Movies that you'll never watch again

I agree, "The Human Centipede" was just vile and sick - I regretted that I peeked into it on Netflix.

There is actually one movie that I was meaning to watch again for "therapeutic" reasons, but never did. It is called "The Beyond" and it is basically just one horror scene after another. I watched some of it when I was around 10 and needless to say, that was not a good idea. For months afterwards I was afraid of being in the dark, of things being in the walls that could jump out and attack, and that sort of thing.

How about movies we've vowed never to watch in the first place, let alone re-watch ?

i will never watch the movie Titanic. :cool2:

One I forgot to add is Into the Wild. It's such a pity because the images are really breathtaking, but tears come to my eyes just thinking of the ending. SPOILER ALERT ! I was so touched by his acceptance of his death at the end, the pictures he took, the notes he left, etc. So when at the end I realized it was a true story (I had no idea!), I just could not stop crying. It stuck with me for weeks. Other people I talked to had the same reaction and it was discussed here: http://cassiopaea.org/forum/index.php/topic,7399.msg52498.html#msg52498 - It was a painful experience and I'm not going through that again.

I liked this film and could look at it a second time, even if it is not usually what I do with movies, not the same with books I am able to read several times. This is not the same story...
I had the same reaction than your and yours, tears could not stop falling, by feeling how was his mind at the end, this acceptance... You're right, a very strong film, and watching it by knowing it was a real story, gave me power in my self thoughts...

Re: Movies that you'll never watch again

Oh

I would not re-watch '127 Hours'.

Once is more than enough, thank you.

Thought this was a good idea for a new thread. ;)

Movies I will never watch, for the reason that life experience renders watching them a waste of time, or the content is equal to emotional abuse:

Gone with the Wind
Its a Wonderful Life
A Christmas Story
To Kill a Mockingbird
Death of a Salesman
Mindless comedies (the new Adam Sandler flick is case in point)
Anything with a Smurf in it.
Passion of the Christ
Twilight series
Battle Ship (saw a preview before Happy Feet 2, pass...)
Anything to do with Torture Porn, which can include the entire content of the Chiller Channel on cable. (Something my Dad watches 24/7 whether anyone likes it or not)
The Girl Who Played with Fire, and the other movies in that series
War movies: in my pre teens my Dad forced us to watch gory war movies every holiday, and weekend, because that's what he wanted to see.
Zombie movies: same reason as above, played every Thanksgiving. The only one to date I saw and actually laughed over was "Zombieland", which my brother endorsed.
Faces of Death: These are movies that include footage of actual people dying..another stint my Dad went through that I actually hid from/left the house to avoid.

These days I research a movie before deciding to go see it, to avoid those that might make me sick from 'shaky camera' techniques. At one time I wasn't this picky about
what movies I'd go see, but as i get older, I'm just not willing to put up with content that I don't need to see. :flowers:

Made a new thread for this...enjoy. :flowers:

Re: Movies that you'll never watch again

Isn't there already a thread on this topic?

will never watch
Coyote Ugly. no need to elaborate.
Cloverfield. I hear it's shaky and useless.

will never watch again
Van Helsing. once was more than enough.

but i think one of the most useless movies ever created must be Catwoman 2004.
i remember thinking to myself that the actual universe must be crying that such a film could ever be made and taken seriously.

I actually liked both of these movies, especially Cloverfield. It has an element of "realism" that is not usually found in science fiction movies.

You made me laugh with this one, because i felt asleep when i saw it. And no I don't think I will give it a second chance, just so boring and uninteresting.
