Music deaths

Mr. Premise

The Living Force
I just found out that Grant McLennan of the Go Betweens died a few weeks ago. I really liked his work. They weren't too well known in the U.S. but I imagine they were much better known in Australia.

Then, today I read that Hilton Ruiz, the jazz pianist (he did amazing work as a very young man with Rahsaan Roland Kirk in the 1970s) was beaten badly on Bourbon Street and probably won't recover.

Damn.

Yes, this was a bit of bad news. Grant's song "Cattle and Cane" is an unofficial anthem in some circles downunder. There was something very "Brisbane" about the group. His funeral was attended by several notables from the Aussie music fraternity. Actually they never really did that well in Australia, staying in the indie-rock sphere. Big radio never caught on which was a pity.

The Go-Betweens had just reformed and had put out a new album. It was doing quite well on e-music last time I looked.

Personally, I always preferred Robert Forster's tunes more in the context of Go-Betweens music, but McLennan's songs provided a balance. Fans of the right-wing-themed TV drama, "24," might've noticed that the evil corporation in Season 5 was named McLennan-Forster. Apparently one of the executive producers of the program is a fan.

I was thinking about the hyperdimensional control system the other day during a conversation we discussed the early deaths of many many young stars. Janis Joplan, Kurt Cobane, Elvis, Brad Nowell(sublime)... it seems any artist who's music could have impact is trimmed off early in their career. My postulate was that the time travellers could go back and clip off any artist who could wake people up. Kinda like Bill & Ted's excellent adventure, only add in hyperdimensional aliens who don't want a harmonous "excellent" future to arise and the ability to kill said rockers.

Thought maybe you'd like these articles if you're not familiar with them.
Probably a couple of the best out there on "dead young musicians".

Operation Chaos - FBI Cointelpro anti music and counterculture program:

Assassination of John Lennon - Interview w/ Mae Brussel, detailed Cointelpro stuff:
http://www(dot)maebrussell.com/Mae%20Brussell%20Articles/John%20Lennon%20Assassination.html

We used to live to hear Mae's next weekly broadcast in late-60s--70s. She was about the only one on radio connecting dots in those days. (Same cast of characters!!)
Oh yeah, check the whole site w/ archive broadcast tapes, etc. Only all been on the web for a couple years maybe.

Peace

Bruce Gary died at 55 of lymphoma -- best known as drummer of The Knack -- man, he was a virtuoso.

Don't forget Jeff Buckley, he too died when he was 27, what is it about that age anyway? Japlin, Morrison, Hendrix, Cobain all died at 27. Something to do with the age 28 being the start of a new 7 year cycle? I heard that every 7 years everyone goes through new cycles... I Can't verify that though.
His death seemed rather weird (Suspicious?) as well, I heard he went out swimming one day and just drowned...
Great guitarist, AMAZING vocalist and an even better lyricist IMO. I wonder how he could have influenced the world if he had the chance to mature into his full potential, what a terrible loss.
Here's the lyrics to one of his songs, Eternal life:

Eternal Life is now on my trail
Got my red glitter coffin, man, just need one last nail
While all these ugly gentlemen play out their foolish games
There's a flaming red horizon that screams our names

And as your fantasies are broken in two
Did you really think this bloody road would
Pave the way for you?
You better turn around
and blow your kiss hello to life eternal, angel

Racist everyman, what have you done?
Man, you've made a killer of your unborn son...
Crown my fear your king at the point of a gun
All I want to do is love everyone...

And as your fantasies are broken in two
Did you really think this bloody road would
Pave the way for you?
You better turn around
and blow your kiss hello to life eternal....

There's no time for hatred, only questions
What is love, where is happiness, what is Life,
where is peace?
When will I find the strength to bring me release?

And tell me where is the love in what your prophet has said?
Man, It sounds to me just like a prison for the walking dead
And I've got a message for you and your twisted hell
You better turn around and blow your kiss goodbye
to life eternal angel...

Novelis please tell me more about the 7 year cycle or where you heard it from.

Thanks

and then of course, it often has the opposite effect, of immediately ramping them up to 'legendary' status. which is a possible clue that is is a control system thing, because it is showing the typical weakness of 'wishful thinking' blindness.

moonwalker, I heard the 7-year cycle thing as well. I think I can remember the source, so I'll look it up and let you know.

You forgot another one : Bob Marley.

He died of a rare skin cancer at 36, he was deeply influencial in Jamaica with his less known political songs.

Check out this list from a Christian webiste of famous dead rockers (you shall not rock !!)

http://www(dot)av1611.org/rockdead.html

Although I find some death somehow suspicious there are still some musicians who live quite long , like Johnny Cash for example.
I don't think all musicians who die pretty young would necessarily made things change or help people to be more aware of things but I could be wrong.

moonwalker in hell,
don't you kids know anything? sorry. the 7-year thing has to do with saturn: 4 periods of 7 years make the 28-year cycle of saturn. at 28 you get your "saturn return" (same place in the sky as when you were born). 28 is looked on as the "end of youth", time to redefine yourself, begin the "adult"phase, lose the kid games and outlook. in a traditional society one would be finished with initiations and begin a life-work, maybe hook-up, start breeding, etc. the book to check out is "The Liquid Light of Sex" by Barbara Hand Clow. discusses all the major astrological life-cycles and their importance. anyway, the PTB like to off the strong youth before they come fully into their own power/wisdom if they show too much mojo early. cheers

And the skin cancer developed shortly after he was interviewed for Rolling Stone by none other than Neil Bush! No kidding (http://www(dot)trinidadandtobagonews.com/forum/webbbs_config.pl/noframes/read/2778).

He was killed to pave the way for the Reagan/Bush Caribbean Basin Initiative (http://www(dot)bobmarley.com/life/jamaicanpolitics/cbi/)

it was from 'How to get what you want and what what you have' by John Gray, when he's talking about a person's different types of needs during each 7-year stage of life.

Don, could you elaborate on that? I went to the bobmarley.com link and it didn't really expound on what you said, Marley being killed to pave the way for the Basin Initiative. I'll look it up as well but I just curious if you know of anything more about it off the top of your head. :)

Hi Beau,

This article talks about how he might had contracted a cancer but I can't vouch for the veracity of the facts in it :

http://www.bobmarleymagazine.com/articles/blunt.htm

He had already been a target before :

By 1976 Bob Marley had become an important political factor, and someone tried to have him assassinated. Seven armed men broke into his home and shot his wife and manager. They both survived, however, and so did Marely with only a minor shotwound. It is still not known who was behind this and as always CIA has been blamed. The reggae was now world famous and Jamaica was one of the world's largest music exporter, which it still is.

In 1977 he was diagnosed with cancer in his bog toe, but he choose not to follow the doctor's advice to amputate it. He believed that his religion would help him. In 1979 he got drastically worse and he was diagnosed with a far gone brain tumor. Finally he caved in and underwent treatment for his cancer. His dreadlocks fell off and he spent his days tired and weak in a hospital.

Today 20 years ago, the 11th May 1981 he died.
Hope this helps
