The Living Force
I completely agree. I also had 'issues' for a while, regarding working on stuff that I considered irrelevant and even flat out wrong for example some IT work I was/am doing is for an insurance company. I really had a problem with 'contributing towards the evil corporate machine'.
But then various people pointed out to me that this work earns me money, which allows me to survive and to put energy (and money) back into whatever I choose. So, if I was to 'drop out', then this would disempower me and so put a halt to any efforts towards my aim. If the insurance and other pathocratic companies want to pay me money for my time and efforts, so that I can then choose to convert this towards a different cause, then so be it. There are some great stores in Gurdgieff's 'Meetings with Remarkable Men' that illustrate this nicely (eg his tale of painting sparrows yellow and selling 'canaries'!)
Yeah, there is a huge value in seeing something through to completion, even if you don't like it - it is a great way to grow, and to learn about oneself. This doesn't exclude the possibility of aiming for a different direction in the future, (ie. maybe looking for different employment, in my example above.)
