Apparently ChatGPT has a new update where you can upload photographs and convert them into a studio Ghibli art type of image. The function is not bad, and of course, some people already are taking advantage of it, converting some memes and famous political pics into studio ghibli memes.

I understand the point, however by referring to this video it’s just a different situation and technology he is talking about. I don’t think is insulting using this art style as a filter that chatGPT can create some for photographs. If used only for these kind of purpose, also for those people who were unfamiliar with the Ghibli movies, will be now, thanks to this trend perhaps.
So I guess its perspective of how you look at it.

I've seen that clip and it's from 2016. People were posting his quote about an insult to life, but that was in reference to that grotesque AI monstrous thing they had created. Nonetheless, I don't think we have an official statement on what he thinks about the AI "Ghiblification" we've seen in the past few days. While it may be insulting, could it also help to promote his work merely due to exposure?

Gotta wonder how many revenue streams for artists (image, video, and audio) will be automated away leaving only the very few truly inspired artists making any money. Things like ads, thumbnails, logo design, etc don't always need anything truly original and creative and an AI product is often "good enough". There's a LOT of banal and boring revenue streams out there. A tylenol commercial doesn't need Queen to produce the background jingle.

Of course, one could argue that even little basic things often contain an element of soul and higher inspiration from a talented artist who loves what they do. So maybe the world will become even more generic and uninspired in many ways.

Love it or hate it - this is where we're going, and I always wonder about the ramifications - on the job market, on the "soul" of everything out there, and of course just the fact that all the images/videos/text is going to be fake and no one will know what is real in the digital world anymore. What does that mean for objective reality, or proof/evidence, etc? Would pictures or videos even be admissible in courts in a few years? It's hard enough to find signal in all the noise as it is, aren't we just adding a hell of a lot more noise with AI?

I think carefully managed communities like this forum will become much more important as the only islands of reality. The general internet at large might as well be written off as AI soon. The "dead internet theory" will become much more real than it already is.

Searching for images in Google gives you like half AI images now. Can’t reliably find pictures of animals or nature anymore and it’s a little depressing. Imagine trying to do a remote viewing experiment based on a picture you found, would it still work if it was an AI generated image? “Hmm I’m picking up a lot of 1’s and 0’s that’s odd”

This stuff is evolving so quickly!

I think it's worse than it seems, personally, I love Ghibli movies, yes it seems to me an insult...each movie is years of human creativity, each detail a human observation.

But, as IrjO says, it's a matter of perspective ...that the White House has published it too, the hypocrisy!! are the ones to shouting out unto other countries about copy right policies.

It’s cute for sure. I feel like the prompts may need tweaking because it seems to miss some of the subtler emotional notes. Trump’s expression just seems off in the Merkel and Zelensky images.
