“A short essay by a Greek schoolboy, Stavros Sellis (Σταύρος Σελλής), about what being Greek means. May the younger Balkan generation follow his wonderful example . Here is a translation in English:
ON BEING GREEK
To be Greek is the same thing as being Albanian, Syrian, American, German or Turkish. A Greek is born with the same value as everyone else and he dies with the same value. He isn't born superior to foreigners. He lives in a certain place like every human, simply with much sun and sea. The negative thing about this place is that there are some Greeks who believe that being Greek makes them superior to other people. We are all born equal and we die equal. Our merit depends upon whether or not we positively influenced the life of all human beings on our planet.”
