About hypnagogic hallucinations, earlier this year, a family member of mine shared an image that they "saw" shortly before waking up one morning. They thought it might've been a hypnogogic hallucination. In this case though, it would’ve been a hypnopompic hallucination as they saw the image while waking up, not falling asleep.

The image they said, looked like that of a black and white photograph of a large island off North America. The island was East of the Hawaiian islands and larger than the size of Alaska. It also appeared to be mountainous, at least in its center. They made a representation of it. On a black and white map they found online, they drew in where the island would be in relation to North America and the Hawaiian islands and sent me a photo of it.
