There is a book (science fiction) by Lazar Lagin. In 1956, it was published under the title "Atavia Proxima", and in 1963, when it began to be published in the "Seeker", it already received a different name - the book was already published under the title "Tragic Asteroid".

From a technical point of view, there is no fantasy at all. If we draw an analogy with the current situation in the world and the agony of the West, in an attempt to survive, then the essence is as follows:
There is a certain territory of Atavia, where there is still an islet of Proxima. And there in the West they decided to provoke a nuclear war, a strike against Russia (against the Soviet Union then). And in order to inflict a blow that would not cause major damage to the West, but at the same time encourage the West to unite against the USSR and destroy it, [we decided] to launch this missile strike from the territory of Atavia. They launch rockets. But as a result of the fact that everything went wrong at the start, these rockets tore off a large territory from the Earth (an island on which two state formations are located - Atavia and Proxima), it flies into space and becomes an asteroid.
But further, when it comes to solving political problems on this asteroid, they have a very serious meaning. The fact is that the management elites on this asteroid in both [formations] (Atavia - large, Proxima - smaller) understood: there are very, very few resources on this asteroid.
It is necessary to somehow grind the excess population so that they do not consume oxygen and have enough food. And most importantly, so that this population does not understand what happened and does not overthrow them, it is necessary that the population be busy with something. And they found this occupation - the war between Atavia and Proxima, in which the larger Atavia always wins, and Proxima always loses, but nothing goes far. That is, there, on an asteroid, to move further into the territory of the small state of Proxima means to quickly end the war - there is not enough territory. At the same time, the larger state wins, the smaller one loses. And there the elites constantly meet with each other, negotiate [about] how they could stir up this matter further. Somewhere [somewhere] Proxima had a military success (because, well, they can’t constantly lose, otherwise there will be no spirit of resistance among the population), somewhere [somewhere] Atavia must win. And here they are doing the whole thing.
Only we have a slightly different situation. The West really needs the resources of Russia, so the Western elites figure out how to force the subordinate crowd to fight. And this has been going on for centuries.
