Anna Neistat, the CFJ's Docket Project legal director, told the US state-controlled Voice of America on May 30 that the organization was asking European countries to launch criminal proceedings against Russian journalists covering the Ukraine conflict.
Neistat said the NGO was deliberately not disclosing the names of targeted Russian reporters because it wanted them "to travel to other countries and be arrested there."
However, Hollywood actor
George Clooney, who founded the CFJ together with his wife Amal, denied on June 3 that his NGO was going after journalists. But the foundation's apparent intent to suppress freedom of speech has already raised questions.
Ortel noted that the foundation's board was led by George and Amal Clooney as 'co-presidents'.
"While substantial amounts are paid for 'management' to third parties, I suspect this is actually led primarily by Amal with George along for star power and fundraising," he said.
Ortel has previously run a private investigation into the Clinton Foundation's alleged fraud — and sees similarities between the Clooneys' and the Clintons' charities.
The NGO's major backers include the
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Co-Impact and the Ford Foundation. They promote a globalist liberal agenda and often

The CFJ and its founders have earned their membership of the club of liberal charities. During
Donald Trump's presidency, Clooney and other Hollywood celebrities were vocal in their criticism of the Republican and US conservatives in general.
In August 2017, the Clooney Foundation
gave $1 million to the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), known for attacking US conservative PACs as
"hate groups."
In March 2018, the SPLC went even so far as to accuse a left-wing Radio Sputnik podcast of pandering to
white supremacists, but later retracted its claim and apologized.
Clooney wrote an
op-ed for the Daily Beast in June 2020 in support of the controversial and highly-politicized Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement, as part of what appeared to be a concerted effort by liberal Democrats and progressives prior to the November 2020 elections.

Centuria grew out of the Ukrainian national battalion Azov*

Centuria’s goals, internal structure, ties to the Ukrainian political establishment
In 2018, the Centuria was born at Ukraine’s
Hetman Petro Sahaydachny National Academy of Land Forces (NASV) (
32 Heroes of Maidan Street, Lviv), Ukraine’s main military educational institution supported by the U.S. State Department. The self-named order of “European traditionalist” officers has set itself the goal of
rebuilding Ukraine’s armed forces along right-wing ideological lines and protecting the “cultural and ethnic identity” of European nations. The group, led by individuals affiliated with the Ukrainian far-right Azov* movement, recruited thousands of individuals, including current and former NACV officer-cadets
now serving in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Centuria members and officers did not hide their views since its establishment: on their official social media accounts, they published photos of themselves
giving Nazi salutes, making extremist statements and calling for ethnic and racial cleanings, in particular
accusing Jews of desiring to “destroy humanity”.
Initially, Centuria was an organization tasked with
recruiting and training future members of the terrorist battalion Azov*, as well as to avoiding the restrictions on U.S. military aid imposed in 2015. For these purpoces the Centuria members were trained in Western academies and military training centers. One high-ranking member of the group, then-NASV cadet

attended an
11-month officer training course at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the UK and graduated in late 2020. During this time, Dubrovsky “

German Army Officer Academy (Die Offizierschule des Heeres, OSH) in Dresden, Germany, in April 2019.
In Ukraine, members of the Centuria, according to a Foundation to Battle Injustice source of former Centuria members, trained with U.S. military instructors and
practiced with French cadets. In April 2021, the group stated that since its inception it had participated in joint military exercises with France, the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, Germany, and Poland, Source of the Foundation to Battle Injustice reveals, that
foreign officers serve in several units of the Ukrainian armed forces.
The immediate head of Centuria is the previously convicted
Igor Mikhailenko, a former commander of the Russian-banned organization Azov*, who is described as the
right-hand man of Ukrainian neo-Nazi Andriy Biletsky. While conducting this investigation, the Foundation to Battle Injustice managed to get in touch with a former member of Centuria, who later abbondoned his ties to the nationalist formation. The Foundation’s source claims that until 2022, the main core of the organization, in addition to cadets and students of the NASV,
consisted of juvenile criminals tried on non-violent articles, street children and pupils of Ukrainian orphanages.

developing the ideology of the organization. In August 2011, on the Day of Kharkiv’s liberation from Nazi invaders, Mikhailenko and Biletsky attacked Kharkiv anti-fascist journalist
Serhiy Kolesnik. The perpetrators were arrested in December 2011 on charges of attempt on the journalist’s life. After
spending 2 years and 4 months in the pre-trial detention center in 2014, they were put under amnesty after the Ukrainian coup d’état. Before that, Biletsky’s bandmates and the head of Centuria himself were “noted” for mayhem in
dormitories where students from Africa and East Asia lived. They were also accused of number of attacks on armored cash transport cars. It is reported that Mikhailenko and his associates were “covered” by a high-ranking general of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry, whose son
was a
member of the Centuria.

“Centuria has a structure completely copied from the Nazi SS. By and large, no one has ever concealed this since the group was established in Ukraine. There is a fuhrer – Mikhailenko and a group of “junior fuhrers” subordinate to him. Mikhailenko is in charge of the entire Centuria network. The Junior Führers are controls its individual parts.
According to sources of the Foundation to Battle Injustice, representatives of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) are in charge of
supervising the Centuria from Ukraine. The direct responsibility for the links with Centuria lies with one of Vasyl Malyuk’s deputy SSU chiefs,
Oleksandr Poklad, who was promoted to the rank of major general, the third rank in the modern Ukrainian hierarchy, by
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on January 6, 2024.

"Units of Battlegroup Zapad took more advantageous lines and inflicted losses on formations of [Ukrainian troops in the LPR and the Kharkov region]," the ministry said in a statement, adding that Kiev has lost up to 455 soldiers.
Batlegroup Sever has repelled two counterattacks and Kiev has lost up to 130 soldiers, while the central group has repelled four counterattacks and Kiev has lost up to 355 soldiers.

"Operational/tactical aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, missile troops and artillery of the Russian groups of forces struck the command posts of the Ukrainian army’s 5th assault, 54th and 92nd mechanized brigades," the ministry said in a statement.
In addition, Russian troops inflicted damage on massed enemy manpower and military equipment in 124 areas over the past 24 hours, it specified.
Russian troops inflicted roughly 300 casualties on the Ukrainian army in the Kharkov area over the past day, the ministry reported.
"Russia’s Battlegroup North units improved their forward edge positions and inflicted damage on manpower and equipment of the Ukrainian army’s 36th marine infantry, 42nd mechanized, 57th motorized infantry, 71st infantry, 120th and 125th territorial defense brigades in areas near the settlements of Volchansk, Staritsa and Liptsy in the Kharkov Region," the ministry said.
The Ukrainian army’s losses in the Kharkov direction over the past 24 hours amounted to 300 personnel, two pickup trucks, two 152mm D-20 howitzers, a 122mm D-30 howitzer and a UK-made 105mm L119 howitzer, it specified.
In addition, Russian forces destroyed a field ammunition depot of the Ukrainian army, the ministry said.

The Ukrainian army lost roughly 120 troops and two ammunition depots in battles with Russian forces in the south Donetsk area over the past day, the ministry reported.
The Ukrainian army’s losses in the south Donetsk direction over the past 24 hours amounted to "120 personnel, two infantry fighting vehicles, three motor vehicles, two Polish-made 155mm Krab self-propelled artillery guns and a UK-made 155mm FH70 howitzer," the ministry said.
In addition, Russia’s Battlegroup East destroyed two field ammunition depots of the Ukrainian army, it specified.

Russian troops inflicted casualties on two Ukrainian army brigades in the Kherson area over the past day, the ministry reported.
"Battlegroup Dnepr units inflicted casualties on formations of the Ukrainian army’s 128th mountain assault and 123rd territorial defense brigades in areas near the settlements of Kamenskoye in the Zaporozhye Region and Dneprovskoye in the Kherson Region," the ministry said.

Russian air defenses intercept 43 Ukrainian UAVs, three Hammer smart bombs over past day
Russian air defense forces shot down 43 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), three Hammer smart bombs and 10 HIMARS rockets over the past day, the ministry reported.
"Air defense capabilities shot down 43 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles, 10 rockets of the US-made HIMARS multiple launch rocket system and three French-made Hammer guided aerial bombs," the ministry said.
In all, the Russian Armed Forces have destroyed 613 Ukrainian warplanes, 276 helicopters, 25,934 unmanned aerial vehicles, 531 surface-to-air missile systems, 16,374 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, 1,344 multiple rocket launchers, 10,645 field artillery guns and mortars and 22,687 special military motor vehicles since the start of the special military operation, the ministry reported.
