Putin Recognizes Donbass Republics, Sends Russian Military to 'Denazify' Ukraine

I suspect there are two layers to these interactions: the media side, which fluctuates, and the internal side, which we won't really know.

In talking about it with some friends, I had the idea that, rather than 'playing chess', Putin and Trump are sort of playing bridge. In bridge you have a partner in the game, but when the game begins, you don't know what the strength of cards your partner has, nor they you.

Bidding:

The purpose of bidding is to relay information about the strengths and weaknesses of your hand to your partner. It will help you determine the easiest contract to make based on your respective hands. It is therefore important to know the meaning of each bid. This is referred to as "bidding systems and conventions".

Trump's bluster and Putin & co's rhetoric seem to have a signalling subtext based on information that, as you say, we don't have, Is it a way of communicating how each is handling how political developments progress in their respective situations? Trump has said some outrageous things that Putin has received relatively calmly, but Putin himself has put out some tough statements in response to critics in his own government. They are both walking tightropes, that's for sure.

Perhaps more was agreed on in Alaska than we know, and Rubio has had contacts with various Russian officials since then.

Putin announced that Russia will reveal a new kind of weapon soon:

The RT or swentr links don't work for me, found on X:

Putin has been hinting about a new weapon, possibly in the drone suppression category. An effective anti-drone weapon would be a huge advantage:

The military expert, Captain 1st Rank (reserve) Vasily Dandikin, announced that Russia is preparing to unveil a new weapon capable of effectively suppressing hostile unmanned aerial vehicles. According to him, the aim of the development is to clear the skies of drones that interfere with offensive operations.
The expert noted that electronic warfare systems are today the most sought-after and are advancing rapidly, including in the West, where they study Russian technology they have captured as trophies. The new weapon, according to Dandikin, will be an “unexpected surprise” for the enemy and will be used actively in the combat zone.
He recalled the “Peresvet” laser complex, which is intended to protect against reconnaissance satellites, suggesting that the new weapon may be related to similar suppression technologies.
