Quality of SOTT UFO videos

I'm disappointed by the low quality of UFO videos on SOTT lately. The most recent one I watched, http://www.sott.net/articles/show/218816-UFO-Denver-Colorado-November-2010 was just really bad. It appeared to be filmed from inside a car through a closed side window...a very busy road with lots of oncoming traffic, and even without breaking down the video or stabilization, I could see that what was being filmed was a reflection of oncoming headlights.
There are tons of videos on YouTube and other video sources that -can- be grabbed, most of them are obvious fakes or even jokes. I think more discernment could be used in selecting what's posted on SOTT, though, because even if there is a dry period where there is not much available that is credible or not easily debunked, to compromise quality for quantity seems to me to sort of de-legitimize SOTT.

WhiteBear, can you post some links to videos that you would suggest be posted on SOTT? Following up your comment with some suggestions would be helpful, I think.

I'm at work right now, and took part of my break to post something that I noticed last night, right before I logged off for the night to go to bed. I could easily devote some time to wading through the YouTube videos and finding some to post tonight, and probably will, but would also like more of a discussion about what my original post was about, regarding the quality of links that are being posted on SOTT.

Right on. I hear what you're saying. I think some SOTT editors (of which I am not one) would have to weigh in on that one for an accurate perspective as to what they post and why...

I think video or photographic evidence of UFO-type objects is typically a slippery thing. There is usually some level of plausible deniability to whatever evidence is out there, so it can be a gamble posting this type of material.

I think SOTT does a good job as far as weeding out the obvious UFO material that is attached to New-Age propaganda. I would rather see a video of random lights (even fake lights), which is just the raw data, instead of reading a UFO blog about those same lights in terms of some New-Age belief system. The data might be incorrect, but at least there isn't some obvious agenda behind it. Also, with UFO reports one should look at the collection of evidence statistically instead of just on an individual basis. There is usually a small signal to be found if viewed in this way.

Could SOTT do a better job of filtering through data on UFO sightings? Probably - there is always room for improvement. The editors are still fallible humans and in limited numbers. I think this forum is the place to discuss these articles if you see an obvious problem. If there is some video (like the above mentioned on) that seems to be a fake, feel free to write about it here and others can chip in with their thoughts as well. Also, there's always the comments section on the SOTT article to share your opinion on too. It looks like you left a comment, which is good.

FWIW, I think your point about these being headlights seems feasible. It looks like it might a reflection from traffic traveling behind the car. Maybe they were turning on a long, slow curve and it caught this reflection? When I'm driving, sometimes I see little lights like this, only to discover that it is just some reflection from a light source inside or outside my car.

Just my $0.02

Something I always to bear in mind is not just the quality of a UFO video, but where it was filmed and what was happening in the news around the same time. How many people saw it, what the weather was like, how long it lasted, single or multiple sighting, etc.

Maybe a pattern might emerge which will tell us something more than that there was a light in the sky.

While I understand your point concerning quality not being compromised for the sale of quantity, there is also the question of responsibility. Perhaps if you continue to devote some time to the process of seeking out videos and posting them on the forum for possible Sott usage, that would be helpful in terms of being part of the solution? It might also provide some insight in terms of what challenges Sott editors contend with.

Point taken, Truth Seeker...as I am not at present able to commit a lot of time to this project, I'll withdraw my feedback.
