Russia banning deviant sexuality on the internet to protect society?

What is also interesting is that this ban was imposed during the election week. Some commenters in the social networks are joking that the Russian government must be truly fearless to impose such ban just a few days before the election for the State Duma. Well, today it was announced that the ruling party has won the election. :)

Interesting development.

But I’m going to play the devil's advocate a little bit here and argue that banning anything outright is never a sustainable solution. IMO it leaves an opening, a weakness. After all, you have a virtual porn ban in many Muslim countries but that has led to other problems. And if you pay attention to the details Russia has not banned porn. They simply made free porn less available. Much better IMO then an outright ban.

A true solution would be a society that simply has no interest in porn and slowly due to a lack of interest lets the industry die. Pornography is an addiction. Just like any addiction the solution is complex and multifaceted. Give people a healthy and loving society where they have true healthy connections, esoteric purpose, with evolving knowledge and IMO the addiction will naturally subside and disappear.

I have come to understand that all normal humans have a need to be part of something bigger and more meaningful then just their personal lives. Provide that need and everything else will fall into place, OSIT.

From the looks of it, it's not an outright ban. It's a ban on online pornography that is freely accessible. Sounds like Russians can still access, but they need to login to such sites and somehow be verified - I'm guessing age and ID.

For me that's a smart move, it introduces a level of accountability by transparency. The anonymous / hidden factor of online pornography has a lot to do with its spread.

This is my guess of how it's working from what I've read on this thread but I've not seen any primary sources about those details. Does anyone know a good source that covers Russian policy on this in more detail?

Well, what I know for sure (and based on the info here, for example, in Russian), two main porn sites were totally blocked by the court decision. The Russian version of one of them was blocked already last year, but this time these are English versions. So no, it isn't a total ban, but these are two main sources. Other sites require authorization and paid account, and this is a good enough deterrent for many.

Btw, one of the sites tried to be funny, but without success.

And I thought my life was sad...

Didn't know exactly which topic is most suited for this tragedy, but here it is:

'Until a reboot do us part': Japanese guys are marrying VR brides (VIDEO)

Japanese men are tieing the digital knot with Virtual Reality brides - and the ceremony is just as strange as it sounds.

Footage from a bizarre ceremony in Tokyo Friday shows a suited Japanese groom exchanging vows with his cartoon VR girlfriend.

The 'couple' exchange vows and gaze into each other's eyes via VR headset before engaging in a remarkably awkward first kiss as husband and wife in front of their equally 'real' wedding guests.

The concept stems from the anime video game 'Niitzuma Lovely x Cation' in which players can develop and foster relationships with virtual girlfriends.

For players in particularly committed relationships with their anime paramours, the game's creators developed a way for the couples to be joined together in virtual matrimony.

No update as of yet on how the couple spent their first night as husband and wife. On a separate note, VR sex suits are now a thing.
