Russia Begins Operations in Syria: End Game for the US Empire?

Alex makes some interesting points as to how things may not appear to be as they seem and that this could all very well have been a trap with the plan to attrition the enemy, a new Afghanistan scenario except this time it is the Zionist/Anglo-American forces who have walked into the sinking sand rather than the Russians et al.
From what Mercouris' said about Lavrov's interview with Al-Jazeera, he was visibly defensive and seemed angry (to him) about the recent events in Syria. Assad seems to have been been pulling back and away from his allies, such as Iran, for the past few years. With Russian bases and military hardware available in Syria, I just don't see this as a part of a long-term strategy when it makes more sense to keep Syria as a viable partner rather than subjecting her people to the machinations of Jihadists, Israel and Turkey.

Despite the corruption in Syria, and adding in Joe's hypothesis that he was eventually going to cede authority, why would Assad pull away from his allies, effectively isolating himself and weakening his, and his country's position. Iran had troops waiting to help the Syrian army and there was air support from Russia. Was he simply too tired of the fighting and didn't have anyone else in government that would have been willing to take the reins.

why would Assad pull away from his allies, effectively isolating himself and weakening his, and his country's position.
According to Scott Ritter, Assad didn't have the gall nor internal support to fight his corrupt "oligarchs" the generals and governors.
Iran had troops waiting to help the Syrian army and there was air support from Russia. Was he simply too tired of the fighting and didn't have anyone else in government that would have been willing to take the reins.
Too much corruption in Syria's leadership, plus divided smorgasbord population not really liking Iran and Russia except for Christian minority. The Kurds completely occupying Eastern Syria was a big tell tale sign.

Professor Seyed Mohammed Marandi has explained in a couple of recent interviews that Iranian troops would likely be perceived as occupiers in Syria. It wasn't as straightforward as just allowing Iranian troops to operate on Syrian soil in large numbers. Likewise with Russians. The factions making up the country were just too complicated to allow any kind of military unity. Integrating with other militaries is even more difficult. Foreign governments could not solve that problem, and were limited in how they could operate by the permission of Assad. He seems to have hedged his bets on gulf state investment and cooperation rather than fully committing to be part of the Axis of Resistance, creating some tension with Iran. At the end of the day this man did not want anything to do with war, it was brought to him. Who could blame him for becoming fatigued or jaded by the whole mess?

Syrian population opinion example:
The most tragic and heartbreaking is this video of a Syrian Army soldier listing all ten of his martyred family members, who fought ISIS during the past 14 years. How in the past weeks Iran and Russia and Assad refused to help them thus betrayed them and he announces now they are against Iran, against Russia, against Assad:
- This is the time of the Levant now! This world has gone to the dogs! The world has become like Gaza!
Because they had no support, SAA generals ordered withdrawal after chit-chats with the West to allow this Lightning ISIS Victory.

Remember the frustration of SAA soldiers when they were bemoaning in 2018-2020, how much longer they have to witness Idlib - ISIS-Central acknowledged by the US - remaining seized by ISIS. And US gave death threats to Syria if they ever dare touch Idlib: Isn't this entire situation horrifically twisted when looking back?
In reality, people in their confusion have blamed everyone. Many for instance blame Russia, and perhaps Iran, for not allowing Syria to “go all the way” in 2018-2020, to finish off Idlib, which would have prevented all the foregoing events.
Simplicius has a new post out with focus on Syria and it is well worth reading. It has some good clips and input from different sources which add to the nuances of what happened. He mentions that it appeared as if the 'rebel's didn't have the intention to take all of Syria, but only some foothold in the north and then due to no resistence they simply moved on.

Just saw a sordid DM article about Asma Assad's parents. If we can believe the neighbours/DM her parents flew to Moscow ten days ago.
At the end of the day this man did not want anything to do with war, it was brought to him. Who could blame him for becoming fatigued or jaded by the whole mess?
I agree plus as someone on Twitter said Asma Assad may still be seriously ill and receive treatment for leukemia? I don't know, I haven't seen any updates. FWIW.

Ukraine is running on empty as the Biden Regmie sends nearly $1 billion more in longer-term weapons support to Ukraine.

Authored by Jack Phillips via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours),

President-elect Donald Trump sent a message to Russian President Vladimir Putin following the collapse of the Assad regime in Syria after Islamist opposition fighters captured Damascus. He called for an immediate cease-fire in Ukraine.
Assad is gone. He has fled his country,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on the morning of Dec. 8. “His protector, Russia, Russia, Russia, led by Vladimir Putin, was not interested in protecting him any longer. There was no reason for Russia to be there in the first place.”

The incoming president also said that Moscow had “lost all interest in Syria because of Ukraine, where close to 600,000 Russian soldiers lay wounded or dead, in a war that should never have started, and could go on forever.”

Trump then said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy “would like to make a deal” to end the nearly three-year-long war, noting the loss of hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians.

There should be an immediate cease-fire and negotiations should begin,” Trump said. “Too many lives are being so needlessly wasted, too many families destroyed, and if it keeps going, it can turn into something much bigger, and far worse. I know Vladimir well. This is his time to act.”

Moscow, a backer of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, whom it intervened to help in 2015 in its biggest Middle East foray since the Soviet collapse at the end of 1991, is scrambling to protect its position, with its geopolitical clout in the wider region and two strategically important military bases in Syria on the line.

Russia has yet to respond to Trump’s remark, although its foreign ministry confirmed that Assad left Syria amid the conflict.

“As a result of negotiations between B. Assad and a number of participants in the armed conflict on the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic, he decided to resign from the presidency and left the country, giving instructions for a peaceful transfer of power,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Dec. 8. “Russia did not participate in these negotiations.”

Russia operates the Hmeimim air base, in Syria’s Latakia Province, which it has used to launch airstrikes against rebels in the past, and has a naval facility at Tartous on the coast. The Tartous facility is Russia’s only Mediterranean repair and replenishment hub, and Moscow has used Syria as a staging post to fly its military contractors in and out of Africa.

The ministry’s statement said Russia’s two military facilities in Syria had been put on a state of high alert but played down an immediate risk to them.

“There is currently no serious threat to their security,” the ministry said.

Over the weekend, in a separate Truth Social comment, Trump said the United States should not intervene in the Syrian conflict. A top adviser in the Biden administration made a similar remark, stressing that the United States would not send troops to the restive Middle Eastern country.

The United States is not going to ... militarily dive into the middle of a Syrian civil war,” President Joe Biden’s national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, told reporters in California.

Sullivan stressed that the U.S. military would act out of necessity to keep the ISIS terrorist group from gaining a foothold in Syria should it happen.

The insurgents who took over Damascus are led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, which the United States has designated as a terrorist group and says has links to the al-Qaeda terror organization, although the group reportedly has since broken ties with al-Qaeda.

One of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham’s main leaders is Abu Mohammed al-Golani, or Muhammad al-Jawlani, who is considered a terrorist by the State Department and has been blamed for a number of terrorist attacks that have left civilians dead in Syria.

Commenting on plans to deploy the non-nuclear Russian Oreshnik missile system to Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko noted that using these types of high-powered weapons carries a great responsibility
MINSK, December 10. /TASS/. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has confirmed that his country possesses nuclear weapons.

"I have deployed nuclear warheads here. Several dozen warheads. Many say that this is a joke and no one has deployed anything. Yes, we did. And the fact that they [opponents] say that this is a joke means that they have missed it. They overlooked how we brought them here," the BelTA news agency quoted him as saying while visiting the city of Borisov.

Commenting on plans to deploy the non-nuclear Russian Oreshnik missile system to Belarus, he noted that using these types of high-powered weapons carries a great responsibility. "Ever since Hiroshima and Nagasaki, no one has ever pressed the nuclear button. Not even the leading powers, let alone Belarus," he said, adding that he has warned his "enemies, ‘friends,’ and rivals" about the inadmissibility of violating Belarus’ state border.

According to earlier reports, Moscow announced its plans to deploy its tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus at the latter’s request, similar to what the United States had long been doing on the territory of its allies. Moscow provided Minsk with Iskander tactical missile systems capable of carrying nuclear weapons and helped Minsk to re-equip its planes to carry specialized weapons. It was also reported that the majority of warheads was already in Belarus and in late April 2024 Lukashenko said that Russia had deployed several dozen nuclear warheads.

This is why, in President Putin’s words, Russia behaves with caution and even restraint in all areas
MOSCOW, December 10. /TASS/. Once there is a sufficient amount of Oreshnik missiles, Russia will no longer consider the use of nuclear weapons, President Vladimir Putin said, addressing a meeting of the Council on Civil Society and Human Rights.

"We are improving our nuclear doctrine, not tightening it. Basically, now, we need to improve the Oreshnik missile, not the nuclear doctrine," Putin noted.

"If we take a closer look, a sufficient amount of these cutting-edge weapon systems will actually eliminate the need for the use of nuclear weapons," he explained.

This is why, in Putin’s words, Russia behaves with caution and even restraint in all areas. "However, the government shows its will where it is necessary, as well as the country’s people who live here, who want their children to live here, who see Russia as their motherland and are ready to do everything to make it stronger," Putin concluded.

The Kursk Regional Court has sentenced Jordan O'Brien, a New Zealand citizen, to 14 years in prison in absentia for his involvement in the invasion of the Kursk Region
MOSCOW, December 10. /TASS/. Over the day, Kiev lost more than 200 people in the Kursk Region, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

In total, the enemy has lost over 39,660 servicemen since fighting began in the region.

TASS outlines the key development in Kursk.

Operation to destroy Ukrainian formations

- Units of the battlegroup North defeated Ukrainian servicemen near Guyevo, Lebedevka, Leonidovo, Malaya Loknya, Martynovka, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Nikolsky, Novaya Sorochina, Novoivanovka and Sverdlikovo.

- Strikes by operational-tactical aircraft and artillery fire hit enemy manpower and hardware in the Kursk and Sumy regions.

- The operation to destroy the Ukrainian formations continues.

Kiev Rejects Peace, Prepares For Off

#Kiev REJECTS PEACE & PREPARES FOR AN OFFENSIVE.The world is ablaze with conflicts in different regions, the war in Ukraine continues with the Russian offensive on the front lines while @realDonaldTrumpofficially enters the political battlefield.

They will put them in Ukraine, together with all those tanks and other arsenal. It's early Christmas for NATO!
These people and tanks (and other equipment in Syria) seem to be unadapted to the winter war in Ukraine. They will become an easy target for Russia. Besides, Putin could easily have predicted this and warned everyone - if the Idlib bandits do end up in Ukraine, Oreshnik will punish you. Again, Erdogan, although a hypocrite, is a pragmatic politician who has no reason to spoil relations and agreements with Russia. Russia is building a nuclear power plant in Turkey (+ 1 more in plans), selling gas and millions of tourists from Russia. All this can be lost with a snap of a finger.
A big war in the Middle East is probably still ahead (This is not even Syria, but something even more terrible and large-scale). It's good that Putin jumped off this eastern train rushing into the abyss. It is better to watch the catastrophe from the sidelines, and not to participate in it.
The main goal of the Illuminati ( or was it somebody's else ) is to keep us in line with prophecies. Damascus destruction is important part of that narrative, and probably unavoidable.
Yes, it seems there is a war going on here on several levels: among countries and governments, the shadowy unstructured management of the predictor (Illuminati and others), and also an even higher level - the QUORUM, which does not consist of people.

Maybe he'd rather be humiliated than dead, because let's not forget how horribly they killed Gaddafi.

Listened to Alex Christoforou's latest update on Syria. There are reports that can't be confirmed that Israeli tanks are moving in on Damascus, going way past some agreed upon buffer zone, and the Jihadists are apparently quiet about this. Meanwhile, Lindsey Graham tweeted that if Erdogan moves in on the Kurds, the US will sanction Turkey. I can't help but wonder if their plan to carve up Syria could lead to them stepping on each other's toes and/or backstabbing each other in significant ways.

At the end of the day this man did not want anything to do with war, it was brought to him. Who could blame him for becoming fatigued or jaded by the whole mess?

He never wanted anything to do with ruling Syria, either. His older brother was the one educated and trained to be the successor but he died in a car accident. That's when Assad was called back, when all he wished for at the time was to be an ophthalmologist in London and live a normal peaceful life with his family.

I don't blame him for leaving Syria, especially after what we witnessed happening there the last few days. They would have certainly killed him and his family in public, in horrific ways. Heroes who sacrifice self and family for love of country are made from different material than Assad is made of, especially given how much he loves his wife and children, and considering that Asma might still be fighting cancer.

Some thoughts, anyway.

Meanwhile, Lindsey Graham tweeted that if Erdogan moves in on the Kurds, the US will sanction Turkey.
This has always been the goal of the US (and Israel). First, to destroy and divide Syria with the help of Turkey, and then to destroy and divide Turkey itself (hello Erdogan). From the Kurdish parts of Syria, Turkey, Iraq and Iran, they plan to create KURDISTAN, which will not be dangerous for Israel. The US also plans to divide Iran into several parts.

I looked up the main Danish newspaper, Jyllandsposten, (added: the one with the Muhammed drawings) and it is following the line of the Western MSM like CNN. One headline focuses on a prisoner who had a lucky escape from Assads 'brutal' prison. A little further down there is another article about this terrible prison. Another article white washes the HTS leader al-Joulani and describes how he was a quiet boy at school bla bla bla. Yesterday was an article about Assad's luxurious car park (or what is presented as his car park). Yet another article talks about how this will influence the war in Ukraine as to them it shows that Russia is not so powerful.

No strategic thinking or analysis. It is simply selling a Western/CIA/Israeli narrative of how great this is for Syria and Israel which they also mention in another headline. No talk about how this chaos and violence by head choppers, look similar to what happened in Libya or Iraq or Afghanistan and the consequences for the ordinary people there. One gets the feeling that they are trying hard to dumb people down and keeping them ignorant of what is really going on. :headbash:

That's when Assad was called back, when all he wished for at the time was to be an ophthalmologist in London and live a normal peaceful life with his family.

One wonders if the higher forces had anything to do with it. Killing the competent brother and letting the other one take his place as a ruler of Syria so that Syria would be more easily defeated sometime in the future.

He seems to have hedged his bets on gulf state investment and cooperation rather than fully committing to be part of the Axis of Resistance, creating some tension with Iran.

As I said earlier, Russia and China have been engaged in a long term plan to transition to a MP world. The ME was a major hub in that plan, and it was necessary to bring a new 'order' to the ME based on national sovereignty and inter-state co-operation.

As ambitious as it might seem, the Russia-China plan was actually making some headway in terms of getting ME states on board with it. The next step was for Assad to cede power in the near future (probably next year after Trump takes over) to "legitimate opposition" groups in the country (excluding Israel and the US' jihadis, but not excluding Turkish-linked groups).

The US and Israel were aware of these plans, didn't like the look of them (for obvious reasons), and decided to pre-empt Assad's resignation by reactivating their jihadis. Note, this was probably planned many months ago.

Some more back story: Russia entered Syria in 2015 and dealt with ISIS with a view to implementing this plan. The US realized this and initiated their plan in 2015/2016 to bog Russia down in a war with Ukraine so that Russia would have less resources to commit to enforcing this new order in the ME.
