Russia Begins Operations in Syria: End Game for the US Empire?

Good question! Erdogan will be meeting with Putin on Tuesday.

Putin really doesn't need to put up with Erdogan's baby tantrums? What part of "NO - it's not yours - you can't have" doesn't Erdogan understand? Maybe, if Erdogan - still doesn't "get-it!" ... Putin can have him directed over to Lavrov's Office. THAT - should settle it!

Russian soldier killed during battle of Khan Sheikhoun: report

2019-08-25 - A Russian soldier from the private military contracting group Wagner PMC was allegedly killed during the battle of Khan Sheikhoun, the Russian aviation publication Avia.Pro reported on Saturday.

According to the publication, the Russian soldier Ilya Georgievich, age 34, was allegedly killed while participating in the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) offensive inside the key city of Khan Sheikhoun.

“Mercenary PMC Wagner Polyakov Ilya Georgievich, Born 02/19/1985, a native of the Krasnodar Territory. He fought in the Donbass, died in Syria,” the publication claimed.

The Russian Armed Forces have been active near the front-lines in the Idlib Governorate since the Syrian Arab Army began their operation in the area.

Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, made an official statement in which he confirmed the participation of Russian troops in the offensive operation in northwestern Syria.

“We are not just closely monitoring the situation, our military is on the ground in the Idlib de-escalation zone,” the Russian Foreign Minister said.

Last Thursday, the Syrian Arab Army captured the city of Khan Sheikhoun after a short operation against the jihadist rebels.

The following day, they would capture the entire militant-held northern Hama pocket; thus, ending the jihadist presence in the area.

Israel hits Iranian force in Syria to stop 'killer drones': military
August 24, 2019 - Israeli aircraft on Saturday struck Iranian forces near Damascus that had been planning to launch "killer drones" at targets in Israel, an Israeli military spokesman said.

“The strike targeted Iranian Quds Force operatives and Shiite militias which were preparing to advance attack plans targeting sites in Israel from within Syria over the last number of days,” the military said in a statement.

The elite Quds Force is the overseas arm of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC). Israeli military spokesman Jonathan Conricus told reporters the forces on Thursday had been preparing to launch “killer drones” armed with explosives at northern Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the military had thwarted the planned Iranian attack. “Iran has no immunity anywhere. Our forces operate in every sector against the Iranian aggression,” he said on Twitter.

Syrian state media said Syrian air defences intercepted “hostile targets” over Damascus, the capital, Saturday night. Witnesses in Damascus said they heard and saw explosions in the sky.

“The aggression is ongoing and air defences are confronting hostile targets and are downing most of them in the southern region,” state media outlet SANA said, indicating areas south of Damascus.

The Syrian army said in a statement that “the majority of the Israeli missiles were destroyed before reaching their targets.” Conricus, however, said the impact of the Israeli strikes was “significant.”

Hezbollah official: Israeli drone fell in south Beirut suburbs, second drone exploded
August 24, 2019 - An Israeli drone fell in the Hezbollah-dominated southern suburbs of Beirut and a second one exploded near the ground on Sunday, a Hezbollah official told Reuters, in the first such incident in more than a decade.
The Israeli military said it does not comment on foreign reports.

The second drone caused some damage when it crashed before dawn close to Hezbollah’s media center in the Dahyeh suburbs of Lebanon’s capital Beirut, the Hezbollah official said. It came hours after the Israeli military said its aircraft struck Iranian forces and Shi’ite militias near Syria’s capital Damascus.

Residents in Dahyeh said they had heard the sound of a blast. A witness said the army closed off the streets in one neighborhood where a fire had started. No other information was immediately available.

Israel deems the heavily armed Shi’ite Hezbollah movement, backed by Iran, as the biggest threat across its border. They fought a month-long war in 2006 that killed nearly 1,200 people in Lebanon, mostly civilians, and 158 people in Israel, mostly soldiers.

Lebanon has complained to the United Nations about Israeli planes regularly violating the country’s airspace in recent years.

Israel has grown alarmed by the rising influence of its regional foe Iran during the war in neighboring Syria, where Tehran and Hezbollah provide critical military help to Damascus. Israel says its air force has carried out hundreds of strikes in Syria against what it calls Iranian targets and arms transfers to Hezbollah.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the strikes in Syria on Saturday thwarted a planned Iranian attack in Israel. Syrian state media said air defenses confronted the “aggression” and the army said most of the Israeli missiles were destroyed.

It seems to appear - as Syrian and Russian forces are closing in on the last locations of the terrorists, Erdogan is fighting to hold on to Idlib, while Netanyahu is attacking Syria to hold on to the Golden Heights? Meanwhile, the Israeli military have increased bombings in Syria, Beirut and Iraq (going after Iranians?) to keep war tension between the US and Iran? Israel bombed Syria again today (Sunday).

I have my suspicions, Netanyahu is trying to provoke a missile attack on Israel - so Israel can declare open war on Iran ... AND postpone the Israeli September 17th election - where the odds against Netanyahu - see him losing power and position. The Great Satan - must FALL!

US-Backed SDF Suppresses Protests in Eastern Syria As More Washington Military Aid Arrives

The Kurdish-majority Syrian Democratic Forces continue to crack down on public dissent in Eastern Syria as hundreds of the US military trucks carrying military equipment arrived in Hasaka province to back up the SDF.

Local sources in Eastern Deir Ezzur reported that tens of residents of the towns of al-Azabeh and Moizlieh towns in Eastern Deir Ezzur staged protest rallies against the SDF, and called for their exit from al-Jazeereh region.

The Kurdish militia dispersed the crowd by firing at them. The protesters shouted against SDF’s corruption, plundering oil and public assets as well as closing al-Salehieh crossing which is linked to the areas under the Syrian Army’s control.

Meantime, the Arabic-language al-Watan newspaper reported that a new military convoy comprising over 200 trucks carrying US weapons as well as military and logistic equipment arrived in Ra’as al-Ain region in Northwestern Hasaka near the border with Turkey through Simalka passage between Iraq and Syria.

Expert: Israel Seeking to Trigger US-Iran War in Iraq by Targeting Holy Shrines in Iraq

A prominent Iraqi expert warned that Israel aims to target the holy shrines in the Arab country to ignite a war between the US and Iran on Iraq's soil.

Imad Allo told the Arabic-language al-Ma'aloumeh news website on Saturday that third parties, including Israel and the Persian Gulf Arab states, are attempting to turn Iraq into a scene for confrontation between Washington and Tehran.

He warned that they will likely attempt to target the holy shrines in Iraq to trigger a war in the country and the region which cannot be controlled easily.

His comments came after Iraqi Vice President Nouri al-Maliki warned of a “strong response” if it was proven that the Israeli regime had been behind recent airstrikes in the country against the positions of pro-government Popular Mobilization Units (PMU).

Maliki, who is also secretary-general of the Islamic Dawa Party, said on Friday that if Israel continues to target Iraq, the country “will transform into a battle arena that drags in multiple countries, including Iran”.

He added that “the security of the region, which Iraq is a key part of, is a collective issue, and its protection requires the (full) responsibility of all countries”.

“The security of the region will be put in danger and the status quo will change if it is proven that Israel has targeted the sovereignty of Iraq. Iraq will give a strong response in case it is verified that Israel's hand is behind the recent attacks,” the former Iraqi prime minister stressed.

Five Turkish generals handed in resignations: Cumhuriyet paper
August 26, 2019 - ISTANBUL - Five generals from the Turkish army have handed in resignations in the wake of a military council meeting earlier this month, opposition newspaper Cumhuriyet said on Sunday.

The Supreme Military Council (YAS), chaired by President Tayyip Erdogan, convened to discuss promotions, dismissals and placements of the high-ranking military personnel on Aug 1.

The resignations by one Major and four Brigadier Generals were submitted as a reaction to council decisions which were described by retired military officers as an attempt to make the Turkish army smaller, the unsourced Cumhuriyet report said. There was no immediate comment from Turkey’s defense ministry.

Two of the Generals were known to be the army officers responsible for Syria’s Idlib region where Turkey has a military presence, Cumhuriyet said.

Israeli occupation media tries to cover up failure of recent attack using old video
video

25 August، 2019 - Damascus - Desperate to cover up the failure of its most recent attack on the surroundings of Damascus, the Israeli enemy’s media outlets published an old video claiming that it shows the missiles hitting their targets.

Israeli journalist Shimon Aran published a video claiming that it shows the results of the Israeli attack on the surroundings of Damascus on which took place on Saturday night and that the attack has hit its targets, while the video actually is of a previous Israeli attack which took place in 2018, in a blatant attempt by the Israeli enemy media’s to cover up the failure of the missiles to reach their targets as the Syrian Arab Army’s air defenses had shot them down.

Channels promoting the Israeli aggression rushed to publish the video as part of the frenzied disinformation and falsification campaign against Syria. Such media misdirection tactics are nothing new to the channels funded by the countries involved in the war against Syria, and all of them have failed due to the steadfastness of Syrian army and people.

Israeli strikes kill 5 members of Hezbollah in Syria

The Israeli Armed Forces launched several strikes in rural Damascus last night, targeting a number of military sites belonging to the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Hezbollah.

During the Israeli attack on Aqraba in rural Damascus, at least five members of Hezbollah were killed in the explosions, a source from the Syrian Armed Forces told Al-Masdar News this morning.

The Israeli strikes caused a series of explosions in southern and western Damascus that could be heard throughout the capital city.

Last night’s attack by the Israeli Armed Forces marked the third time this month that they have targeted a site inside of Syria.

The last reported attacks took place near the town of Meshta Al-Helou and city of Masyaf in western Syria. However, unlike last night’s attack, the Israeli Ministry of Defense did not claim responsibility for these strikes in western Syria.

Syria to let civilians flee rebel-held Idlib via humanitarian corridor | DW | 22.08.2019
Syrian city of Idlib
22.08.2019 - The northwestern region of Syria has been held by rebels over the last seven years. Damascus has said a humanitarian corridor will allow "civilians who want to leave areas controlled by terrorists" to flee the region.

Syria announced Thursday that it is to open a gateway for civilians to escape the opposition-held region of Idlib, where government bombardments have killed hundreds of people in recent months.

"The Syrian government announces the opening of a humanitarian corridor in Souran in the northern countryside of Hama province," state news agency SANA quoted a Foreign Ministry source as saying.

Idlib's main insurgent group on Tuesday pulled out of the strategic town of Khan Sheikhoun, which had been held by rebels since 2012, as government forces advanced amid intense bombardments and airstrikes.

The gateway will be used to evacuate "civilians who want to leave areas controlled by terrorists in northern Hama and the southern countryside of Idlib," SANA quoted the source as saying.

It is not the first time Damascus, with Russian military support, has created routes out of rebel bastions before retaking the area either through forceful means or via negotiated surrenders.

The Idlib region, which lies in the northwest of Syria, close to the Turkish border, is the last major stronghold of opposition to the government of President Bashar al-Assad.

The region has been controlled since the beginning of the year by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham alliance, which is led by Islamic fighters from Syria's former al-Qaida affiliate.

Lavrov: Syrian Army Operation in Khan Sheikhoun not Violating any Agreements
mongolia%2026%208%202019.jpg

Monday, 26 August 2019 - MOSCOW, (ST)- Terrorists in Syria's Idleb can't be allowed to continue targeting residential neighborhoods, Syrian army positions and the Russian Hmeimim airbase, Lavrov said on Monday, stressing that the Syrian army operation in the town of Khan Sheikhoun does not violate any agreements, including agreements between Russia and Turkey on the formation of the de-escalation zone in Idlib.

Lavrov told a news conference after talks with his Angolan counterpart Manuel Domingos Augusto that the ceasefire agreement did not apply to terrorist groups from the very beginning.

He affirmed that the elimination of the terrorists hotbed in Khan Sheikhoun by the Syrian Army is legitimate and necessary from the point of implementing the tasks set by the UN Security Council to resolve the crisis in Syria.

Lavrov went on to say that Western media outlets are distorting facts about the humanitarian situation in Syria. He called on the international community and MSM to depend in their reports on facts and events on the ground not on claims by some parties like the so-called "White Helmets" terrorist group which is known for falsifying facts.

Concerning the situation in the Syrian Jazira region in the northeast of the country, Lavrov reiterated that the US administration's schemes in this region target the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and violate the international laws and the Security Council resolutions that themselves provide for preserving Syria's integrity and sovereignty.

Elsewhere in the news conference, Lavrov said that the United States has warned participants in the upcoming Damascus International Fair of sanctions.

"We have heard that the United States threatens participants in this exhibition with sanctions, saying that any presence at this event would mean support to the Syrian government," he said.

"It is a familiar rhetoric we hear in respect of Syria and a number of other countries which have their own stance rather than dance to someone else’s tune," he added, according to Itar Tass.

The fair is due to open on August 28 and it will last till September 6th.

ZHUKOVSKY, August 27, 2019 - Creation of a security zone on the Turkish-Syrian border will help to maintain Syria’s territorial integrity, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a press conference on the outcomes of the talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

"We understand Turkey’s concern related to ensuring the security of its southern borders, and we think that these are lawful interests of the Republic of Turkey," Putin said. He added that during the talks on Tuesday, Erdogan explained his stance on the issue in detail.

"To our mind, the creation of a security zone on the southern border of the Republic of Turkey will serve as a good precondition for maintaining territorial integrity of Syria itself," the Russian President stressed noting that Moscow supports de-escalation activity in the area.

Putin noted that Turkey is under considerable strain, having received over 3 mlllion Syrian refugees. On August 7, a delegation of the US military held a series of talks in Ankara, on the outcomes of which the parties decided to open a joint Turkish-US operation center. The buffer zone will serve to protect the Turkish border. Talks on establishing such an area, which would include a no-fly zone, started back in 2013.
