Something just isn't right about this. Has this ever happened in the past? If there was some secret, illicit, cargo why not offload it and be done with it and let the ship continue on its course? The fact that the entire Atlantic fleet of the Russian navy is now looking for this ship raises a bunch of red flags. It either could be an excuse for the Russian Navy to stealthily move their fleet into an offensive or defensive position under different pretexts or it could be a US operation to divert the Russian fleet away from some coming "event". Or maybe it's just what it seems: a mystery disappearance.

'I've worked here nine years and I can't recall a case of a ship being hijacked by pirates in EU waters, let alone the English Channel.'

if it was a true mystery disappearance I don't think the Russian navy would care. IMO . Ships do go "poof in the night" all the time(for various reasons) and they don't send out the navy just because a small private freighter goes amiss...IMHO
