Shoulder pain

Thanks for mentioning the FIR Sauna herondancer. I had forgotten all about that even though I read it. The sleeping in the dark is by far the most challenging thing for me at the moment. Mainly because it sets off my survival program connected with my "What If" program. I.E. "What if someone tries to break in while I'm sleeping." Not being able to see my environment at night is unsettling at best and almost horrifying at worst. The only thing that goes through my mind during these time's is that I just need to let go and trust myself and my ability to deal with the unexpected. The spitting blood only happened the once, the second time happened while I was asleep I assume. I didn't realize it happened until I went to take a nap a couple of days later and saw a spot of blood on my sheet's. Anyways I'll deal with that on Monday.

The biggest thing is slowing down as has been stated. I do appreciate all the support I have been shown it does mean a lot to me. :flowers:

Re needing to feel comfortable in the dark. What if, instead of keeping a candle burning all night, you kept a good flashlight under your pillow, or within easy reach? It could even be one of those big, square types that run on a 12-volt battery, kept on the floor by your bed. Those things put out a ton of light when you need it. Just a thought.

I wanted to throw my voice behind DMSO as well. I read about it awhile ago but like you was reluctant to try it, for the same reasons. I ended up trying it a few weeks ago and am glad I finally did. I'd swear I can feel it stimulating nerve growth as it gets absorbed. It has this feel of penetrating right into the core of my knots and tension, and of rebuilding things versus just relieving pain. With multiple layers of tension/trauma it can be hard sometimes to tell when you've peeled back a new layer and when you are still dealing with the current, but I feel good saying that just after taking it a handful of times it has already had a very restorative effect on my neck/back. I also recently decided to go see a doctor, a neck/spine specialist. I am trying not to get my hopes up too high, but getting a Dr. to administer DMSO injections right into my neck is something I would like to get.

A suggestion would be to do a slow-start approach and take your pure DMSO and dilute it down with distilled water to 10% DMSO. The shoulders and above are typically more sensitive DMSO and more than 50% is not recommended, from what I have read. So 10% would probably have some minimal affect, and help you to determine any ill affect. The burning you get from DMSO is from your skin drying, and with a fairly dry climate or with dry skin you may want to apply more distilled water shortly before and after the DMSO.

Have you read about Magnesium Chloride? Great for relaxing muscles and opening your blood vessels. You mentioned recently that you take an oral Mg supplement, but one thing about Mg is that it absorbs better through the skin. I've found the oil gets the best results, but these days I am using the lotion because it's easier to use - doesn't leave as much residue. I try to take it AM and PM.

Good luck man :)

Had a bout of serious shoulder pain recently. It's my left shoulder/neck area and I'm betting it's an old injury that's been acting up lately. Been having major food sensitivities, light sensitivity, and psi-stuff (like being really aware of people's emotional/psychological state and getting confused thinking their thoughts/feelings/emotions were my own), not to mention intense dreaming.... but I digress.

Anyway I recalled reading about the taping and so I got some basic adhesive tape from the pharmacy and did the first one for acute shoulder pain, going through the djvu file is kinda painful (pun!) and I was wondering if anyone had a pdf version of the manual and could recommend patterns for shoulder/neck stuff.

It's not frozen so much as a dull throb/occasional sharp pain beneath the upper left shoulder blade and left side of the neck. Can also trigger headaches in the back of the head.

I did get some acupuncture for it a few weeks ago, and went to three session before I had to stop due to being to busy IRL with work and starting up with school again. It helped for the time being, but now its all acting up again.

Hi Puck,

There are several techniques on youtube as well. This one is for frozen shoulder:

You can do a search for "kinesiology tape neck" as well.

Make sure to keep up with the thread "Life Without Bread". The diet is essential in order to be in good physical and mental health as well.

Hi Puck,

From everything I have read about resolving physical misalignment issues and chronic pain, and have experienced personally, shoulder/neck pain is almost always due to lower back issues. Typically the curve of the lumbar is not appropriate and does not bend inwards towards the belly. Not having this first curve in place, causes a reflective issue in the rest of the back, making your body be supported by muscles not intended for the job. And then, lower back pain is generally caused by mis-alignments in the pelvis area.

I know that as I have resolved my back pain, my shoulder/neck pain has lessened greatly. If your pain is due to an old injury, the injury should've healed by now if your body was allowed to do what it needs to. Which would be using itself in the most appropriate manner for whatever situation it is in, unbridled by a bad driver. In other words, emotional pain causes us to "hold" tension in an area of our body. Then not only does this emotional pain help lock it in place, but the longer it persists the more physical mis-alignments arise, chronic muscle contraction, muscle atrophying, etc. So in order to release it, we not only have to work through the emotional pain, but the physical as well as we begin to use our bodies in a more appropriate way, and have to work through the pain of a mis-used muscle. So we avoid these two pains, and avoid dealing with the issue head-on.

IMHO, the biggest mistake you can make when working on the issues of your body is by focusing on your problems. This would be a good example of that, where your shoulder/neck hurts so that is what you focus on, when really the issue is elsewhere.

My two cents.

Edit: changed outwards to inwards in second sentence, other minor edits for grammar.

If you are going to pursue the taping, regular adhesive tape you find at the pharmacy won't do the trick, at least not in my experience after trying a few types.

Kinesio tape has a specific elasticity and support, as well as a flexible adhesive that allows the tape to behave in a very specific way. Depending on the cause, taping might fix the problem or at least alleviate the symptoms.

Ignis.intimus mentions an interesting area of consideration, that trapped emotions or traumas are locked in the physicality and require special processes to be released. Rolfing and Feldenkrais methods come to mind.

Another possibility to consider is nerve entrapment, usually in, but not limited to, the neck. This can cause referred pain in the shoulder. Tense and inflamed Myofascial tissue or scalene muscles are often the culprit in this case.

Ruling out tissue and joint problems like frozen shoulder, RSI, etc., might be a good idea before treating.

Ice treatment (10-15 minutes at a time) for inflammation or heat for pain might heat alleviate discomfort in the short term.

As mentioned earlier, dietary elimination of inflammatory and allergenic foods is essential.

I hope things ease up for you and wish you well.

Fwiw,
Gonzo

This site has a lot of videos showing how to tape specific areas. Just scroll down to towards bottom and it will list the areas that the videos shows how to tape.

Good luck.
