Wow!! What a comparison between the before and after videos. The only thing I could recognize between the two was the small dock and the little pink house, otherwise I would not be sure the videos were taken in the same place! They are taken from different times of the year obviously. From the looks of the small lake/pond, It would not have been nearly as deep as the sinkhole is now. I wonder if the small lake/pond was man made, I do not see a stream feeding into or out of it, perhaps that is what started the whole mess?

Do you know what the trench is for that the workers are digging? The pipes sticking out the sides of the sinkhole, I am assuming they are the towns water or sewer utilities? Perhaps the workers are re-routing the utilities?

Maybe. The only info I could find is that the lake existed in 2010: _http://www.pijanitvor.com/showthread.php?t=5119#axzz2l2VmSrMe

You are right, the main water pipe was severed.

Sinkhole is now eating the pink house!

Wow, that's a pretty big sinkwhole there. :O

Last week, a whole opened up on a road in Luxembourg as a firetruck was driving by. Nothing big but still worth posting.

A smaller sinkhole opened last week last Wednesday in town of Karlovac(Croatia) and it is nearby river blamed for it:

There was also moderate earthquake (4.9 Richter scale) in Dalmatia yesterday 9.00 AM and lasted about 10-15 sec - which i found rather thrilling (not to say pleasant ) experience! :knitting:

This is quite opposite from my former behavior in similar situations. Real or fake (yes. i was "feeling" fake earthquakes, usually during sleep) use to produce panic and shock - even made me jump from me bed :-[...

Funny enough, they are giving the same answer for the likely reason behind the sinkhole that I posted above though they really have no clue as to what actually caused it.

Hasan Šivić, the owner of the lake house, died a month and a half ago, and until his death he maintained and cleaned around the lake. Earlier, the locals were throwing garbage in it, which, according to the locals, "lake gobbled in seconds", but he forbade that thirty years ago and began to maintain it, and even breeding fish. Locals say that all of this has a certain symbolism, that lake disappeared shortly after the disappearance of the only person who cared about him.

Talk about cosmic symbolism!

Does this qualify as a sinkhole?: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=da9_1385362633&use_old_player=0

Impressive one! Thanks for sharing. I do not know if we could qualify it as a sinkhole, only because the ground lifts up itself rather than it collapses, maybe because of break of pipe as it seems have a lot of water. But what could cause this break of pipe? I do not know.
It also could be a new kind of sinkhole, just a thought.

Oh and by the way, note how the car which is involved obviously wanted to pass while the fire-light was red... A cosmic sign? :P

Wonders never end - is the lake in Sanica coming back?

Due to the rain that fell in recent days and snow from the night before that does not stop, the water level began to rise in the crater left by the disappearance of the lake. Water level rose by approximately two meters while on the surface are still floating pieces of trees that were collapsed into the crater, and also a dead fish.

The hole is expanding every day , but that is not the only problem. Earth began to collapse in the surrounding fields.

Little pink house is still holding, but just barely, because under it the land daily gushes. Because of the snow, around the hole yesterday (Tuesday) there were not many people. Only three young Sanicans came to see if there's anything new.

They were not in the mood for the statements but they said that the locals are already accustomed to a hole in the middle of the village.

Neither in the first houses next to the former lake people want to talk. They say that they are tired of everything and that they are disappointed in authorities who, as they said, forgot about them, while they are daily afraid of the new collapse of the land. Those who listened to the splashing of the waves at night, now hear a pieces of land that is coming of, and have a good reason to be afraid.

Until the mystery of the disappearance is solved one thing is certain - the water level rises, if anything, because of the heavy snow and Sanica could, at least during the winter, get their lake back.

December 30, 2013 - Monday - Paauilo Mauka, Hawaii Truck falls into large Sinkhole
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2013/12/truck-falls-into-sinkhole-in-hawaii/

A road besieged by heavy rains on Hawaii's Big Island opened into a sinkhole, swallowing a pickup truck in the process. Authorities from the Hawai'i County Civil Defense said a woman was behind the wheel of the truck in Paauilo Mauka when the road simply gave way on Monday. The driver was able to climb out of the hole. She was taken to the hospital with only minor injuries, according to Oliveira. The accident came as the area experienced rains so severe that authorities enacted a flash flood warning. The rains set a new rainfall record at the local Hilo Airport and caused landslides along an 11-mile stretch of highway, reports the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

Hawaii - Flooding - Landslides
http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/breaking/20131230_Truck_falls_into_sinkholelike_crater_on_rainsoaked_Hawaii_island_road.html

Heavy rains drenched Hawaii island's Windward coast Monday morning, scattering runoff and debris across the area — and even causing a Paauilo Mauka road to collapse beneath a truck, according to officials. More rain Monday afternoon and evening prompted a flash flood warning that's been extended through 8 a.m. today after radar showed heavy rain south of Hilo near Keaau at about 7:48 p.m. Other locations in the warning include Waipio Valley, Paauilo, Laupahoehoe, and Hawaiian Paradise Park. The National Weather Service said flooding was reported at Ainako Ave. and Kaumana Drive this evening. A landslide was also reported on Old Scenic Road in Papaikou.

The Hawaii County Civil Defense was alerted to the road collapse site on Pohakea Mauka Road, near its junction with Manienie Road, at about 8 a.m., Civil Defense administrator Darryl Oliveira said. The rain had caused a culvert beneath the street to shift, which then triggered the roadway's collapse as a Dodge pickup drove over it. The truck fell into a giant sinkhole-like crater, Oliveira said.

The rains also caused landslides across an approximately 11-mile stretch of Highway 19, between the 25- to 36-mile marker, he said. The rains set a new record for rainfall at the Hilo Airport. About 5.51 inches fell Monday, beating the old record of 4.58 inches set in 1951. The storm also brought snow to Mauna Kea and hail to Hilo, Puna and Pahoa Sunday night, according to reports to the National Weather Service. The storm's passage over the Big Island was captured by a cloud camera at the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope on the summit of Mauna Kea.

January 02, 2014 - Thursday - Ruskin, Florida

A man was killed after falling into what officials are calling a 'ground collapse' in Hillsborough County.

The incident happened at the South County Waste Water Treatment Plant, located at 520 TECO Road in Ruskin. Officials are still at the scene attempting to recover the man's body.

Hillsborough Fire & Rescue responded to the scene for a rescue operation. Officials say the victim was walking along a pipeline when the ground gave way. Another person was with the victim and saw what happened. That person grabbed the victim's hand, but had to let go.

More information will be released as it becomes available. (video)

Pink house has collapsed. Half of the lake is filled by underground waters and the other half is filled by water supply.
