Snow in St. Petersburg in august

There is this article on Russian SOTT, about snow piles that suddenly appeared in one of the residential areas in St. Petersburg. The reporter held the snow himself, that felt like the real deal and not like hail, for example. What is more mysterious, that the snow appeared near a heat pipeline. The reporter contacted all kind of official places, including the meteorological office, but they couldn't give any explanation. There were no clouds, rain, or any other precipitation at that time about the city. The only explanation they were able to give, that maybe it was a truck with artificial snow that unloaded it on the street, or maybe this snow is from a nearby groceries store with very big freezers. Other more "weird" explanations were, that it was a strange "localized" weather phenomena, like tornado. Or maybe nearby store tried to freeze sanctioned produce!

Thoughts?

My impression is that someone made a prank with a snow gun to create artificial snow. ;)

My 2 cents...

Yeah, that's the only logical explanation. Other explanations are of a more high strangeness nature. ;)

Doesn't appear so. It's an area that has car dealers and markets.

Well, whatever the mystery turns out to be, a very "localized weather phenomenon" seems as strange to me as any high strangeness explanation. Wonder if more info will come in about it.

I would pick this over the High Strangeness aspect. If you were grinding the surface of the ice rink, it might be expedient to dump it in the street where it will melt away rather than blocking up your drains.

On the other hand in his book "The Case for the UFO" Jessup decribes a lot of very localized and weird weather phenomena he attributes to a UFO-like phenomenon. And saying that this is a hoax might just be a tactic to deflect from the high strangeness aspect.

Just a thought - will be interesting to see what further info comes out, if any.
