It's amazing how much sound can add to things. Your choice of sound design is great, I really like it.

I don't have that many further comments, I think the sound effect for the second text is slightly out (maybe by a frame or two). I think you can avoid the "plop" effect if you kept the text from being static. So once they are sitting there doing nothing, maybe you can parent the text to a null object and wiggle the position of the null so the text will randomly shudder. Just google "after effects wiggle" and you'll probably find some good tutorials on how to do this. I don't think you'll have any trouble understanding it :)

EDIT: Oh, and be sure to turn motion blur on for the text layers; it will make the shuddering look better :)
 
Hey it looks cool.
Is it me or some titles are more difficult to read being of darker colours on a black background ?
 
I love it! :thup: I would suggest reordering the title/terms where you have an innocous term followed by noxious terms. Also, to put Connecting the Dots at the very end.

For example: The Living Planet, Big Brother, Health and Wellness, Axis of Evil, Science and Tech., Psychopathology, Connecting the Dots. Connecting the Dots is what Sott does best and I it might give viewers the impression that our articles will connect the dots between all of those other terms. fwiw
 
thanks everyone for wonderful suggestions...I did think the order was a litte off, so thanks Menrva for suggesting the change :) I'll give that a go.

Also Nathan, I think a little wiggle action would work well over the static titles, so I will do that too ( i do also have a wiggle script active for when the titles explodes).

Tigersoap, unfortunately when the video is compressed it makes it a little darker and harder to see, I think the science & tech title may be a littel dark, so I will lighten it a bit :)

Great work. When you get a finished product we can start spreading it around and maybe put it on the Sott page.

Great work 987baz!

I had the same impression for the last words at the end, imo this is what it is all about: sott. Maybe the stages (words) before could be a latter a cumulation to sott? The colors seen before in the topics can be found again in the end, a setup for what is sott all about?
And I'm not sure if science&technology is a little bit too dark, but it could also my display be.

My 2 cents.

One other idea to consider is to have a light move across SOTT at the end either sweeping back and forth rather slowly or in the same direction a few times - sort of like a glow going across the text. Since I don't know After Effects yet, I don't know how hard that would be to do.
 
It looks like there is already a glow being used. Although you could always throw in a really vibrant glow and mask it so that it appears to sweep back and forth if that's what you're after. Also, if you're concerned about it being repetitive, you could always send the shards in different directions or have them shatter in different ways. I'm not familiar with that you're using to make it shatter so I don't even know if that's possible :P

You know what would be REALLY cool? (Forgive me if I'm getting carried away!) Once each title is formed and established, whereupon it becomes static and sits there for a bit, you could include quick flashes of images (actual video would be better). So for example, Living Earth can include a quick glimpse of a nice shot of Earth, a volcano, and then a comet punching through the atmosphere, then cut straight back to the title as it was. Psychopathology can include images of known psychopaths, a brain scan etc. All in brief glimpses - sort of like a teaser. You can also play with the wiggler to shake these "glimpses" (be they actual footage or images) or apply other effects (damaged TV effect) if you like. Using teasers for each title will break up the repetition and add a great deal of intrigue.

Also, for the final bit, is it OK for 987baz to use the actual SOTT logo (and tiny logos) at the end for design consistency?

I certainly do like the sounds with each titles and its colors. It's really moving.
 
I'd also like to offer kudo's and thanks. I hope it is ok to use the embed code. It looks really snazzy and works fine on places like myspace. Great Job, well done! :cool:

I also think it might be good as part of one of the Connect the Dots, like a advertisement or eye candy for folks. When your finished with it let us know and we'll make good use of it
