Sott motion graphics promo

I just viewed this and I'm totally impressed with it even as it is now - the sound effects and colors are great. I would agree about the title order. Three negative ones, Axis of Evil, Psychopathology, and Big Brother, being immediately followed by Health and Wellness didn't seem right. I'm looking forward to the next modification! Kudos!

Hi 987baz - I think it is great! It definitely has impact.

Very nicely done!

:cool2: things are coming along, I have implemented most of the suggestions from the second version.

I have the next version ready to go but unfortunately my internet has been shaped back down to dial speed until the end of the month, so frustrating having such horrible internet service down here in oz

anyway thanks for more feedback and kind words, I'll post the newest version once my internet has been restored to full speed again, just thought I'd give an update on what going on

just a quick observation.

The readability of the text is very low, on the first animation it was really hard to see and i only was able to get it because i knew what it said.

on the second one there's better readability but it's higher in some than in others due to the contrast between background and the actual text, the color is a great idea i think, but maybe make them not so transparent? or transparent in a different way? just my two cents here.. :-[ i figured this would be something for people to see and not everyone's got great sight (here!) or great monitors at home... :P

ok, version 3 is up http://www.vimeo.com/11391976

now it seems that what ever compression/conversion algorithm is being used when I upload is crushing the blacks massively :( so i will have to adjust that so everything can be seen better.......

keep the feedback coming, and again thanks for taking the time to have a look

I would still complain, that the "science and technology" is to dark / has a bad contrast ("big brother" too, though it's readable).
Is it possible that you add to the individual letters some "bright" or "glowing" frame/aura? Then you do not need to bother with the colors /contrast/brightness that much
(would be the best solution to the readability/darkness issue).

Other than that I like the current 3rd version of yours

yeah i agree that most of the titles are too dark...i am adding some more glow to make them stand out more at the moment........I also trying a few extra little bits and pieces to go with the titles...thanks for thefeedback..will upload next version hopefully by the end of the week :)

Just gotta say that I love where this is going! I wonder if the SOTT crew could use it...

Great work 987baz! It is pretty enthralling to watch it and listen to the sounds at the same time, almost enchanting. Almost like introductory credits to a mysterious movie or something. Is there any way to make the titles more "alive" after they come together? I like how the 3rd version went in that direction, but perhaps if they could be 3-dimensional and very slowly changing focus, or orientation, or morphing in some way? Maybe morphing like they are made out of a liquid to make them seem dynamic and flexible? And I agree with making them brighter as well.

Actually maybe not so liquid as metallic, with metallic effects? It looks like they are made from metallic pieces/shards that come together that have shiny effects and feel dynamic and alive, and the pieces themselves look solid and non-liquidy. The final text looks somewhat contrasting in terms of its material and non-reflective behavior, etc. But the overall look and feel of it is amazing, keep up the great work!

Also want to add that the sound is interesting, the "coming together" sound of each category in the 2nd version seems matched up to the category, or maybe it's just me. Like the science and technology has robotic clicks, and big brother and psychopathology topics have a more menacing sound when they come together. You switched the topics around in the 3rd version but I don't think you switched the sound effects. Either way, if you weren't even thinking in that direction, it's something to consider - to make the "coming together" and "breaking up" sound effect appropriate to the "feel" and meaning of each category? But at the same time keeping with the general sound theme so the effect is subtle but noticeable :)

I really like how this is shaping up too -- one of my favorite parts is the soundtrack. Ominous without being cheesy. Good work, 987baz!

Keep it up baz, it's starting to come together and looking better and better!

Agree with SAO's above comment, I would express it as organic, is there a way for the text to be more organic and alive? It really is quite contrasting after all the movement of the pieces.

thanks for the comments...I have a few ideas on how to make the text look more "organic" and will implement for the next version...I will also change the sound around as suggested by SAO, i didn't really realise until it was pointed out..again thanks for the feedback..it's most helpful :)

will try to get the next versionm up by the end of the week

Really like what you've done there baz. Maybe just drop the text using the rule of thirds so the dispersion/contraction has some "headroom". And go for an elastic effect with the contraction, as in, when contracting go slowly-to-quickly in the animation. The uniform dispersion is fine the way it is. :)
