Bluefyre said:Hi folks, the new MP3 format does not work with my transcription software. It also will not play when listening to archived shows at home. It plays for a few seconds then stops. I also cannot use the OGG file type on the transcription software at work, not recognized. I have express scribe at home so will try the OGG there when I have time. Are any other transcribers having these issues since we're on the new network?
Hi Bluefyre, the newest one I’ve been working on is from the end of Feb 2016 TPP which i believe is the old format. I also just use the hot keys on VLC player. And in the last few weeks haven't had chance to transcribe.
However, if it's of any use, perhaps a converter may help? There may even be one built into ExpressScribe, though i expect you've tried that... - there isn't one i can recommend but Cnet is generally reputable and provides reviews.
Cnet:

I just downloaded the following show:
Sat, 26 Mar 2016 18:00:00 GMT
The Truth Perspective: Terror in Brussels: Why Belgium really is a hotbed of extremist terrorists
Harrison Koehli, Elan MartinArticle on Sott.net. Download: [ogg] [mp3]
and using ExpressScribe 4.30 (an old one perhaps? I think they at version 5+) i did a little test typing - but without attempting to save the typing directly from ES - it seems to work. I did skip through the show to make sure it wasn't jumping and it seems to be OK.
Could it be the ES version is corrupted? (sometimes things like that happen with programs and it may need a 'repair' run on it - how i don't know yet.). Or perhaps it's updated and something has gone awry? Personally i can't imagine why it wouldn't work without there being an issue with the program itself since surely those formats are widely used - MP3 at least!
Apologies if i've misunderstood your question, but if you let me know, i'll try to see what else could be going on :) (i am no computer whizz fwiw). I saw your post in the other thread but figured to answer here. Added: the above attempt was with MP3 and i haven't tried OGG, because, again, mp3 is the most popular and therefore if it doesn't work with that, i'd be very curious, but i don't use the software regularly enough to be an expert.
