Really? Back and forth? I just can not understand this. It leads me to think this is manipulation. it is too far spread on media to be nothing.

Could be. The story goes that someone put it up on Tumblr, saying she and her friends were disagreeing on the color. It got something like 16,000 likes or whatever they do on Tumblr, it spread to Twitter, and everyone started arguing over what the color was. It even got to the Trending list on Twitter. But what's the point, other than just another thing to distract people? The websites and news media that covered the "story", well they're just responding to it going viral and using it as clickbait on their websites.

I agree that the strangest is not the picture of the dress, but the way the meme propagates. Our vision does trick us, there is absolutely nothing new, not weird about it. Even some people who haven't posted on FB for years (forgot their existence) started posting this today.

Well, there you go. I think it says a lot of the facebook folks . Something is off for sure. I am interested in what will show itself from here.

I agree with this too. I saw this get posted on FB today and ignored it, because it was another one of those stupid distracting things that gets passed around. I didn't care what color the dress was. But then people kept talking about it--it even came up as a topic at my online job. Why does anyone care what color the dress is and why is it suddenly becoming a topic that everyone's talking about? I figure there must be something going on that TPTB doesn't want people to notice (maybe more executive orders by Obama or fire in the sky or something else?), or maybe is just a continuing exercise in the ability to hypnotize and distract people (I'm thinking of the Boston marathon bombing as an example). In any event, I think it's really strange how many people are talking about this dress photo.

I see white and gold, have looked back at the pic a few times and the white does seem slightly off, kind of lavenderish as mentioned before, but still mostly white and gold.

Also see it as blue and brownish-goldish black. But I think that it is actually black and looks brownish-goldish due to flash from the camera.

I also see periwinkle blue and a golden brown, and it doesn't change. I looked at several different photos, but still cannot see how it could look like white and gold.

Its blue and medium brown.

I’m looking it on the neutral calibrated lcd ips monitor. It can be white and gold if you increase brightness and contrast in Photoshop, or on monitors that are set in that way.

BTW, it is total nonsense and pointless to compare images on any kind of the monitors, be it crt or lcd. There are no two monitors on the world that gives the same picture. Your eyes can tell you it’s the same, but equipment will told you differently.

Colors on the monitors (and any other device that has display, such as smart phones, for example) depends of the monitor settings which are color temperature, light, contrast, environment light and colors, and so on. Also monitors from different manufacturers have different picture, even when set on neutral.

I can agree that the meme is more interesting than the picture. Very nicely shows what really concerns the minds of people :D

We sat four together yesterday when one person asked: "Hey, guys, why they're convince me that the dress is blue-darkish? It's definitely white'n'gold!" We're looked on the picture and I was the only who saw blue\darkish colours. Ut was an epoc argue where I had no facts and I was really puzzling...3 "whiters" against 1 "darker". Then I've decided to make a snapshot of picture(it was on a friend's mobile phone)...And, when I showed them the snapshotted picture on my mobile phone one person was "healed". She even couldn't imagine how she saw white\golod colours just a minute before :D It becomes more weird! The second person who was "healed" tried to confirm and explain to other person that there is no blue\dark colours and they can't be there...While he talked about it he glanced on a picture from another angle and...interrupted himself being surprised with changed perception :D He became seeing dark\blue and couldn't believe in a glitch with white\gold colours. Then we tried to "heal" out a third person explaining and demonstrating colours stripe-by-stripe...No results!

So, no one of us couldn't change back perception (from blue\dark to whit\gold) I don't know why, but as liffy described

it is possible.

Ok, y'all right that it's trick of our vision. But the most strange is that such a triffle swallowed an attention of great number of people! Or it's mesmerizing trainштп or distracting from something terrible that was done\going to be done.

Also, people see colors differently.

Even the same person can see colors differently, which depends on the environment, light . . .

I am strabismic (squint, crossed eyed), thanks to the blow to my temple in early childhood. But I can control both my eyes, so I can focus with either eye or with the both together. Which means I can see deepness or just ‘flat’ picture (although its not just ‘flat’). The same is with the colors, when I focus on a object with just one eye for some time, colors fade out, so when I change my eye and look at the object with my other eye colors are more saturated and contrast is higher.

Everyone can do that, just close one eye and look at some object (the best would be some greenery) with the open eye for a couple of minutes, then change your eye. Close your eye and look at the object with the eye that was closed. Colors and light will be different.

This dress has been bugging me all day today. Glad to see this topic on the forum. Not that this topic is important or anything but I think it's good to think about how our eyes often deceive us. I still think that it is white and gold even after seeing the true black and blue color. I guess I prefer illusion over the truth. Well time for me to plug back into the matrix, don't try and wake me any time soon. THE DRESS IS WHITE AND GOLD, and anyone who says otherwise is wrong. :headbash:
