Suspected polio outbreak in Syrian province spreads

Perhaps I am in a conspiratorial mood today, but the following article about the suspected Polio outbreak in Syria (first in 14 years!) made me think that perhaps not everything is kosher with this picture.

Rosenbauer, asked whether the virus may have been imported into Syria by a foreign combatant fighting in the civil war, replied: "The first step is virological verification that it is the polio virus.

"The next step is that every isolated virus gets looked at genetically to see where is the parent. Hopefully that will provide some clarity on where it would have come from," he said.

The outbreak is the latest setback to international efforts to eradicate polio - as well adding another dimension to Syria's worsening humanitarian crisis as the war forces people from their homes and destroys health systems.

All the polio viruses found recently have a similar genetic structure to the strain of the virus found in December 2012 in Egypt, according to the director of Public Health Services in the Health Ministry, Prof. Itamar Grotto. According to Grotto, it is believed that the virus was brought to Israel by a carrier who was infected in Egypt, and has already been transmitted to additional people, although it is impossible to estimate the number of infected.

"It can be assumed that the virus has spread and infected people in the center of the country and the Sharon region," said Grotto. However, he added, it could not be ruled out that the virus was brought to the center of the country by people living in the south who work in the center.

And although the above article says that the virus probably came from Egypt, it is quite possible for certain secret bodies in Israel to conduct an experiment first on home grounds and later in Syria. Or maybe there is something else going on, including the cosmic connection.
