Switching from ketosis for a while

The Living Force
I decided to switch from ketosis, because there is a very high probability I will ruin ketosis after 10-12 days. There would be a situation in which would be hard to stay in ketosis for me. And after less than a month I would be able to switch back. So I decided to do it right now in order to get used to non-keto state. I’ve been on ketosis for over 2 years I guess. The last whole year was on almost strict ketosis with slight spoiling of it several times. But It seems to me that I recovered it quickly, it looks like my body get used to ketosis.
Nevertheless, I want to share my experience of switching from ketosis. It is a second day of transition and I feel like my head in a fog, like my mind in a fog. It is harder to concentrate. I feel less my body, it becomes more like “cotton-like”. I feel like tingling in the back of the head in the brain. I think because my brain gets used to another fuel and also my body gets cleansed during the ketosis. I guess I used to feel in such a way and normalized it before I went on ketosis, before changes in my diet. It is a terrible state. I tried some coffee and it seems to help my mind becomes clearer. I didn’t tolerate well coffee on ketosis, when I drink coffee on ketosis it usually just draining off my energy. I measured my glucose level and it is normal – 76mg/dl, but higher than I used to have on ketosis. Usually on ketosis I have 64-67 mg/dl.

I wouldn't recommend coffee at all regardless of whether you are in ketosis or not. Coffee causes insulin response which brings you out of the ketosis and secondly insulin causes stress to the body in general (check the last C's session). Have you tried black or mate tea?

I used to drink black tea and different herbs, like camomile, mint, maramiyeh (dried sage). It seems my body tolarate well these few herbs on ketosis.
There was a point when i got carried away with drinking to much black tea so I drank more herbs less tea. I have problems with my blood vessels and I notice that when i redused my black tea intake i feel that my vessel are in better condition. The mate tea I've tried once and it is not for me. I see there are a few new sessions that i haven't read yet, i will check them.

I was reading some nutritionist guy's newsletter the other day and he suggests 3 days on, then a break of 1 day with more carbs as a habitual practice. He says this prevents your body from getting "stuck in gear." He also highly recommends doind 6 minutes of intense exercise of some kind before breakfast 5 days a week to stimulate your natural metabolic cycle.

So, I'm trying this.

Supposed to be "break". I'll fix it.

Dyslexic fingers? D and K both hit by middle fingers, just wrong hand.

I've also been experimenting with this as due to periodically having some serious brain fog and ennui recently, to the point where it feels like my brain is simply producing no dopamine at all. Since moving to a new house and starting a new job, using caffeine was great for my mood and motivation, and allowed me to be very jovial and social, but due to too much anxiety and inflammation I've cut it out on Saturday. Since then I've been feeling like a floppy marshmallow with no energy at all.

Adding carbs seems to help a fair bit, but I'm also considering that maybe I wasn't in ketosis at all for the past month, and only now through cutting out the caffeine I am experiencing adaptation.

The morning exercise suggested by Laura sounds like a good idea, I will see if this makes a difference.

3 days of ketosis, with 1 day of higher carb intake, you mean?
I have tried something similar, only having a bit of carbs each day (normally in the form of green veggies like cucumber with skin removed or A liiiittle bit of carrot). It didn't seem to interfere with my ketosis when I had it in the early evening, I guess because of their negligible glycemic load. It prevented me from getting hungry and indulging in a fatty snack too close to bedtime. Doing a bit of intense exercise before breakfast (or at least early in the day) just sounds like good advice in general. If I'm up early enough I do 5 minutes of yoga core workout.

I kind of had a funny thought a few months ago about trying to gain as much weight as possible, supplementing lots of fructose and sweet potato in order to pack on a year's supply of food on me in case the SHTF. ^_^ I wonder if, having prepared myself with being in moderate ketosis for a year and a half (with a few slips along the way) it wouldn't be as jarring for my body to change gears again once I actually need to have an alert mind again. What's a 2 months of fogginess compared to having a clutch fat supply in times of need? This idea is either ridiculous or genius. Probably the former, but FWIW. :/

Maria Emmerich suggests something similar. It supports a healthy thyroid function in a way that people who overeat one day actually end up losing weight. Even though overeating days are classically done with carbs, Maria suggests protein instead. It has good results and it avoids carb binging which can throw some people into a vicious cycle. Overeating protein just produces the right amount of glucose which will not break the ketogenic cycle so abruptly.

I've tried it with interesting results: feel better and I feel geared up and ready to eat normally (ketogenic) the next day. For me carbs are dangerous... might find too hard to avoid them the next day.

Typically it is one day per week though.

Exactly. Green beans, salad, something like that.

I think if you do that, you might be vulnerable to any kind of pandemic that comes around. Fructose kills.

A few more words. It wasn't an easy decision for me, first of all on mental level. Ketosis for me is not only diet and for a good health. It is also the way of existing where you eat only what you need to exist.
You are not eating everything you can, you are not eating for pleasure as a result you are not killing a lot of creatures (plants, animals) I have a depression. I need to set up my mind also.

Or, you can easily gain weight in ketosis by just upping your fat intake. A couple of months ago I started eating ~50% more fat than usual for a few weeks and after just a couple of days I noticed I was growing a bit of belly fat. As Gaby suggested you could also try increasing the amount of protein so that it's easier to readapt to ketosis.

If you want to gain weight on ketosis it's definitely better to increase amount of protein in your diet (it can be calculated depending on your body mass) with simultaneous muscle resistance training.

I had such similar situation one time, I drink some white wine (it contained 0.2-0.4gr of carbs per 100ml) and eat more pork that I used to eat, and I guess it was 200gr per meal instead of 100 gr. After that day I ate as usual on ketosis, but I have cravings and start losing my normal weight on ketosis. I was afraid of overeating proteins. I try to eat more carbs, but it didn't help. Usually I have 5-10gr of carbs per day on ketosis and up to 60gr of proteins that's why I thought that I can add more carbs. I guess I had to add more proteins…
