Switching from ketosis for a while

I didn't understand why you would switch out of ketosis now when you are not yet in the situation where you might ruin ketosis. Also what kind of situation is this that would force you out of ketosis?

As I said, because I want to get used to non-keto state. Imagine how I would feel if the stressful situations will comes when I will have to ruin my ketosis while the filling all the unpleasant transitional symphtons. I don't want to have a sudden transition, it would bring even more stress to the body. I cannot just push the on/off button. I don't really feel i want to say the reason why it is personal subject and comlicated to explain, sorry.

Have around a year on Ketogenic Diet. Went on vacation and switched out of ketosis. Did it for 6 days.....Was crazy, on this days went to bed thinking all the food I was going to eat next day. :P :P My stomach and intestine was in pain but my cravings was bigger than my pain....When came back from vacation took me 2 days to come back under control and was so hard to control myself. :scared: :scared: What I found with this experience are 2 points....The first one is to check how addict I am to carbs (the worst one on the planet) and the 2ND point was when I was out of Ketosis my face look gray, I look without energy, It took maybe 2 or 3 weeks to recover a brigthness in my face, now it looks cleaner and with better appearance....
It is around 1 1/2 months since switching and still have discomfort and inflammation but the worst point are my cravings, crazy cravings...mental cravings
Sorry about my English

Of course you don't have to disclose the reason why you might want to leave the ketotic state.

My thoughts on this are:

I would switch out of ketosis as late as possible, the transition back to carbs is usually not that big an issue, at least not immediately, because our bodies know that state very well. I had to do that a few times in the last three years due to travels, where enough fat just wasn't available. I always found it harder to transition back into ketosis, but if the time on carbs wasn't too long - about 3 weeks was the longest - I didn't have to go through all the symptoms again that I experienced the first time.

The other thing is that with a bit of ingenuity and planning it is mostly possible to stay in ketosis, even when fat or protein availability is limited. I used to fast much more than I usually do, which made me lose weight (which I didn't really mind).

And maybe going out of ketosis for a brief period of time might not be so bad. You might reset some of the biochemical processes involved. Because I found out that the longer I am in ketosis, the harder it is to maintain higer levels of BOHB (beta-hydroxybutyrate). I used to have levels up to 6 mmol/l in the first year, and now (eating essentially the same) I am commonly somewhere between 0.9 and 2 mmol/l.

My 2 cents.

It is almost 49 hours past since I started fasting. And 48.5 since I drank tea. I tried several times to do fasting, but i didn't manage to do it so quickly as I wanted. So it happened so that i ate once a day and tried to limit my carbs intake to maximum. It was much more easier without carbs, i didn't feel such a strong effect of fogginess in my mind. I guess I need to wait 1-2 hours more, because i finished eating 49 hours age, but food didn't digested at once, how do you think? i will drink broth first and then only have my meal.

Interesting on the overeating. I'd have thought you'd need to eat more. 250-300 calories more is just half a meal more for me. Would you still do an intermittent fast once a week along with two "binging" days?

Yeah, making variations in the amounts of food consumed stimulates the thyroid in a healthy way. Intermittent fasting is healthy by itself and it tends to come naturally in the keto diet.

As per Maria's suggestion of 300 calories... Well, we know how useful are calories, but I guess that your appetite will tell you. When you overfeed with protein, you'll reach your limit sooner rather than later. At least it serves as a rough estimate. It will be interesting to see what others recommend and/or how much each one of us feel good with.
I'm in a pretty good cycle according to the above suggestions that Gaby has posted from Maria. It wasn't even that intentional but on the weekends when everyone is home I tend to eat way bigger meaty meals and cut back on the fat a bit, I think the presence makes me hungrier. Then as Monday comes around I usually don't eat much at all, a bit more on Tuesday, by Wednesday I'm having a small lunch and moderate dinner.. It just builds over the week until the weekend when I go on an all out meat eating frenzy, and I mean frenzy, last Saturday I ate may be 500 grams of meat in one sitting, we had 4 different types of meat to choose from so I ate them all.... I've never been a big eater until my last pregnancy where I gained lots of weight, was too scared of the scales so I refused to get on them but I guess around 30 kg :/ and it was all done with horrid foods like cake and soy.. Sadly I was being a silly vegetarian for most of it too (poor little baby, I ignorantly may have caused her egg allergy :(). I didn't know better then, but now that I do I'm almost back to my pre baby weight with my above eating regime and I've not felt this great since I was 25... I'm also really muscly again all of a sudden..

Yeah, I noticed that intermittent fasting and overeating days comes natural. Some days you have more time to cook and eat while others... Well, having a good fatty meal sets you up real nice for the day.

This diet rocks :)
