I came across this book from a sott article and read it as I was trying to understand how British a 3rd rated empire in early 18th century became so all encompassing power later? This short 90+ page book has many 'Aha' moments (atleast for me) in each paragraph and gave glimpse of the 'Secret History of British imperialism'. It is not just booty or trade route monopoly etc. It is lot more sinister by very few.

This book MOSTLY written before WW I, with some additions during WW II. It is still the mode of operation to this day.

In the process, this book gave some good understanding of how agricultural economy of the world (before) gave a way to industrial economy through secret shenanigans of Rosthchilds (through Bank of England, with the mask of Crown representative), parasitical capitalistic mechanisms, "wars" over markets ( That is only one layer, but there are other layers) . It was a like a program change. The events ( Mainly 19th century, WWI and little bit WW II) mentioned in the is a very good addition to Laura's Cointelpro Timeline. The themes of secret societies, one world goverment, population reduction, rituals etc. are also in the picture.

We are all familiar with The 20th century hidden (or secret w.r.t main stream narrations, once conspiracy theory and now a fact) timelines - Federal reserve (1916), WW I's "silly" origins, US's manipulated entry into WW II and so on. But, the hidden dynamics in 19th century makes what happened in 20th century is only extension or repetetition. The same players and dynamics repeat themselves - rosthchilds, repeated use and throw of Russia ( like in WW II, Russia was prevented from taking her booty in Porte (Ottomon wars) ), hidden dynamics of Rosthchilds running the show behind the scene etc.

Recent C's confirmation of Napelon as a undergrounder is very interesting in the sense, you have undergrounders Rosthchilds (England) and Napolean (France) fought with each other. Atleast that what we were told. If so, why? , but this author says british role in the Napoleanic war is minimal except taking the final trophy through Waterloo. Later, both wants to go and conquer russia, insistence of having only one power in Europe etc. kept that anti-Russia fire continue to burn even to this day ("Semitic" angle). The so called "competition" for trade routes, markets for industrialized goods etc. are just means to encircle Russia, a repeating syndrome in the post-WW-II with new label -"Cold War". In the process "democracy", "War to end all wars" etc. used repeatedly for ever.

It is best to read the book and it is short one, I suspect every body will find it useful (if you haven't read). I asked Grok to summarize events with this players. I may post chapters later as they gives dynamic exchange of events much more clearly.
**The book you’re referring to is *The Empire of "The City"* (full title: *The Empire of "The City": The Five Ideologies of Space and Power; The Geopolitical History of the Modern Era*) by E.C. Knuth (Edwin C. Knuth), first published in 1944 with a 2nd edition in 1946.** It is a highly conspiratorial geopolitical analysis claiming that “The City” (the independent financial district of London, centered on the Bank of England) operated as a secret super-government. It was allegedly run by an international financial oligarchy (with the **House of Rothschild** as the dominant force) that manipulated British (and allied) foreign policy through loans, secret treaties, press control (Reuter, Havas, Wolff), and “balance-of-power” politics. The goal, per Knuth, was perpetual empire-building, market control, and profit from war, debt, crashes, and indemnities—while “screwing” rival nations by bankrupting them, limiting their expansion, and extracting tribute via interest payments on public revenues.

Knuth’s core claim (direct quote from the book):
> “The fact that the House of Rothschild made its money in the great crashes of history and the great wars of history, the very periods when others lost their money, is beyond question.

He argues the oligarchy financed **both sides** of conflicts, engineered crises, subsidized puppet governments, and imposed fictitious loans that created permanent debt traps, allowing control over national revenues and policies. Wars were fought to crush rivals (especially Russia and Germany) and expand Anglo-French imperial markets. France was kept as a “junior partner” because Rothschilds controlled both Britain and France.

Below is a **comprehensive chronological list of all wars, diplomatic crises, and events** from the book in the **19th and 20th centuries** (up to ~1946), drawn directly from its chapters (especially III–VII on the Eastern Question/Concert of Europe, IX “The Money Power in Power Politics,” X “The Secret Sixth Great Power,” and XI “A Study in Power”). For each, I include Knuth’s description of **how the Rothschilds / The City / financial oligarchy allegedly “screwed nations.”**

19th Century
  • Napoleonic Wars aftermath (1813–1815+) – Rothschilds transferred huge assets to Britain and became official bankers to the government.
How they screwed nations: Financed the war while profiting massively from the victory and post-war crash; turned France into a junior partner in imperialism for over a century.
  • Greek War of Independence & Russo-Turkish War (1827–1829) – Navarino battle and Russian victory.
How they screwed nations: Britain preserved the weak Ottoman Empire as a buffer against Russia, denying Russia full access to the Straits.
  • Crimean War (1853–1856) – Britain, France + Turkey vs Russia.
How they screwed nations: Huge loans and subsidies profited bankers; Russia was disarmed in the Black Sea to protect the Ottoman buffer.
  • American Civil War (1861–1865)
How they screwed nations: British financial interests supported the Confederacy, deepening U.S. divisions and debt.
  • Franco-Prussian War (1870–1871) – A key example: Rothschild message from Paris to London directly influenced Gladstone and helped trigger the war.
How they screwed nations: Rothschilds manipulated the crisis; France was crushed and forced into harsh terms.
  • Russo-Turkish War & Berlin Congress (1877–1878)
How they screwed nations: Russian gains were rolled back at Berlin; Britain seized Cyprus; fictitious loans were imposed on Egypt to justify later occupation.
  • Egypt & Sudan interventions (1882–1898)
How they screwed nations: Debt traps from “fictitious loans” led to full British control and plunder.
  • Sino-Japanese War (1894–1895)
How they screwed nations: Japan used as British proxy to weaken China.
  • Spanish-American War (1898)
How they screwed nations: Secret Anglo-American deal turned the U.S. into an imperial partner.
  • Boer War (1899–1902) – Seizure of South African gold republics.
20th Century (up to 1946)
  • Boxer Rebellion (1900–1901) – Massive indemnity on China.
  • Russo-Japanese War (1904–1905) – Britain financed Japan.
How they screwed nations: Russia was severely weakened.
  • Balkan Wars (1912–1913) – Engineered regional instability.
  • World War I (1914–1918) + Paris Peace Conference
How they screwed nations: Secret treaties, encirclement of Germany, financing both sides, Versailles debts bankrupted losers. U.S. was manipulated into the war.
  • Russian Revolution & post-WWI chaos (1917–1922)
  • Chinese Nationalist events (1926–1927) – Bankers allegedly bribed and married into control via T.V. Soong.
  • Lead-up to WWII & 1930s crises – Gold movements, debt games, and continued balance-of-power politics.
Knuth’s main thesis: Almost every major conflict followed the same pattern — create/exploit war → finance both sides → impose loans and indemnities → control national revenues → crush economic rivals → repeat for profit and imperial control.

The book is polemical and presents these as deliberate Machiavellian schemes by a “secret sixth great power.
I will post some chapters, as reading in the narrational format was very effective.
