The end of the road for Macron? French political crisis

Yeah, Sarkozy isn't a saint by any stretch of the imagination, but the timing is interesting. It just takes some heat off of Macron and Co. And may he still had had influence in 2023, and "they" didn't like his overt pro-Russian stance. I don't think it was politically motivated since most people don't seem to like him enough to vote for him again. But he could have been annoying some people?

Politicians who are in the club usually seem to have some level of protection from the sort of thing that has happened to Sarkozy. It's pretty rare unless someone has gone astray in their messaging in a damaging way. They get a golden handshake and a cushy position somewhere, or at least free reign to get rich and be shielded from the consequences of their actions. It's a sort of reward for their service to the power structure, it seems. The Epstein case being buried in order to send a message that psychos will continue to be protected comes to mind.

What could he have done to be so treated then? It remains to be seen how much punishment he will actually suffer, though. It could serve as a distraction but not really amount to much in the end.

It seems that his stay in prison will not be easy. As expected, some aren't happy with his "role" in Gaddafi's death.

Frankly, given the kind of character he is and his former behaviour in french politic and international affairs, he deserves a bit of karma lessons. IMHO
