The Ice Age Cometh! Forget Global Warming!

A decrease in both solar activity and the strength of the earth magnetic field which lead to more cosmic rays reaching the atmosphere can be a possibility.

Yes, reduced solar activity allows more high energy cosmic rays (supernovas, powerful stars) to enter the Solar system and energize atmospheric atoms/molecules leading to plasma glow.

The geomagnetic field probably plays a minute role since it only stops 5% of the high energy cosmic rays (most rays are stopped by the heliosphere).

Hi,
strange coincidence indeed to find this article this morning, so thank everybody for posting and comments - yesterday I saw a pronounced green glow in the western sky (with naked eyes at an angle of approx. 50 degree from the horizon and covering about 10% of the western sky). It was like almost the aurora borealis. I had no idea how to explain it.

One could ask if the predominant role of the CO2, which decreases and raises with cold and warm periods and even if it's a weak greenhouse gas, is rather mainly directed to the growth of the plant biomass instead of being a major component of the greenhouse effect like water vapor.

Mystery of Chernobyl's Animals: Why Some Species Thrive Under Radiation
http://sputniknews.com/art_living/20160426/1038658816/chernobyl-animals.html

Biologists have discovered the secret of how some species of animals and birds survive in the exclusion zone in Chernobyl.

It turns out that their bodies suppress the negative effects of ionizing radiation on their DNA and produce large amounts of antioxidants, a study published by Timothy A. Mousseau and Anders P. Møller in the Oxford Journal of Heredity (PDF) revealed.

"Although there is an overall pattern of decline in animal numbers in direct relation to contamination levels, there is tremendous variability among species in their apparent sensitivity to radionuclides," they wrote. These findings point to a critical role played by antioxidants in defending against oxidative stress, and a likely physiological trade-off between biochemical precursors that are used for both coloration and as antioxidants."

Mousseau, Møller and their colleagues, including a number of Russian and Ukrainian scientists, are involved in the international project "Chernobyl + Fukushima". As part of it, biologists, physicists and specialists from other scientific areas thoroughly study the impact of low levels of radiation on the health of certain animals.

Over the last few years, researchers have uncovered some interesting and controversial facts about the impact of the radiation. For example, it was found that radiation causes significant mutations among certain species, but does not affect the health of the whole population.

Experts have proved that birds and animals respond to low levels of radiation in very different ways. Some birds and mammal species have decreased in numbers, while others, on the contrary, have increased.

"Some of the variance in apparent sensitivity can be explained by differences in life history, physiology, and behavior. For example, for birds in Chernobyl, long distance migrants, brightly colored species, and species feeding on invertebrates in the soil showed the strongest negative responses to radiation," experts argued.

In general, the findings showed that those animals, whose body had somehow learned to produce more antioxidants, could better adapt to living in the exclusion zone and have suffered very little from the negative effects of radiation. Some species have even increased in numbers because of the reduction of competition and pressure from predators.

In turn, other species, including human beings, negatively react to the radiation due to their inability to produce a sufficient number antioxidants. Thus, the study comes to a conclusion that only those species can survive and prosper under radiation that are able to adjust to the radioactive environement and produce more antioxidants.

The radioactive area near the Chernobyl nuclear power plant will have an unusual present for its upcoming 30th anniversary in April: the Ukrainian government decided to turn Chernobyl into 'biosphere' nature reserve.

Ukraine to Turn Chernobyl Into ‘Radiological Biosphere Reserve’
http://sputniknews.com/art_living/20160224/1035295109/chernobyl-become-radioactive-nature-reserve.html

According to a radiological study, humans can be located within 30 kilometers of the nuclear explosion area for 4-5 days and only one-day within the radius of 10 kilometers without affecting their health.

Meanwhile animals don't seem to mind the radioactive zone. The area near Chernobyl has become a hospitable ground for some wildlife species.

The absence of humans led to the increased number of wild animals. Wild horses, introduced in the past, are now thriving with around 100 animals grazing the fields near Chernobyl. Elk, wolves, bears and even lynxes, which previously were absent in the area, have returned. Brown bears, which haven't been seen in the area for over a century, are now back as well.

A team of astronomers has discovered a unique ‘rocky’ comet that has no tail.

Tailless Comet From Earth’s Ancient Past Returns
http://sputniknews.com/science/20160430/1038896159/space-tailless-comet-discovery.html

The comet was originally discovered by the Panoramic Survey Telescope and Rapid Response System (Pan-STARRS) in 2014 and designated C/2014 S3.

Most comets are formed of ice and other frozen substances, this celestial body turned out to be composed of rocky materials.
Furthermore, this particular comet doesn’t have a tail, which prompted the astronomers to name it Manx after a breed of tailless cats.

According to the researchers’ findings that were published in the Science Advances journal, the comet was likely formed in the same region as Earth billions of years ago and was ejected into the Oort cloud — a ring of icy debris encircling the outermost edge of the solar system.

"We may be looking at fresh inner solar system Earth-forming material that was ejected from the inner solar system and preserved for billions of years in the Oort cloud," researchers claim.

The astronomers believe that the comet’s composition may offer valuable insight into some long-standing questions regarding the Solar system’s formation and evolution.

Apparently the jet stream has begun meandering low enough to connect with the southern jet stream, as presented below by a part-time university professor from the university of Ottawa. He changed his tune from saying it was 'unprecedented', but from the maps he shows it does appear to be drifting far south in places. The video is him explaining the maps shown below. I haven't gathered whether he's also pushing global warming...but he does mention climate change and global food shortages, a warming arctic and so on.

One thing he does say which is interesting is, [according to another researcher, 'scribbler'] "it will reduce seasonality", which is interesting because this seems to be what has been happening, winter, spring and summer have been pretty mild in many places, interspersed with crazy weather events. And the jet stream does seem to have been meandering.

I may be mistaken so just to note the below and for your consideration.

This is what he's talking about; how the northern jet stream has drifted and is now connecting with the southern.

‘Unprecedented’: Scientists declare ‘global climate emergency’ after jet stream crosses equator
David Edwards

29 Jun 2016 at 13:48 ET

Climate scientists this week expressed alarm after “unprecedented” data showed the Northern Hemisphere Jet Stream crossing the Equator.

In a column on Tuesday, environmental blogger Robert Scribbler noted that the Northern Hemisphere Jet Stream had merged with the Southern Hemisphere Jet Stream.

“It’s the very picture of weather weirding due to climate change. Something that would absolutely not happen in a normal world,” he wrote. “Something, that if it continues, basically threatens seasonal integrity.”

“Like many extreme events resulting from human-forced climate change [see: Earth Changes and the Human Cosmic Connection for a better explanation of why this is true, but probably not in the way he thinks it is] — this co-mingling of upper level airs from one Hemisphere with another is pretty fracking strange,” Scribbler explained. “Historically, the Tropics — which produce the tallest and thickest air mass in the world — have served as a mostly impenetrable barrier to upper level winds moving from one Hemisphere to another. But as the Poles have warmed due to human-forced climate change, the Hemispherical Jet Streams have moved out of the Middle Latitudes more and more. ”

“That’s bad news for seasonality,” he continued. “You get this weather-destabilizing and extreme weather generating mixing of seasons that is all part of a very difficult to deal with ‘Death of Winter’ type scenario.”

University of Ottawa climate scientist Paul Beckwith called the new behavior “unprecedented.”

“Our climate system behaviour continues to behave in new and scary ways that we have never anticipated, or seen before,” Beckwith observed. “Welcome to climate chaos. We must declare a global climate emergency.”

In a YouTube video, Beckwith said that the jet stream behavior signaled “massive hits to the food supply” and “massive geopolitical unrest.”

“Climate System Scientist” Claims Jet Stream Crossing the Equator is Unprecedented
June 29th, 2016 by Roy W. Spencer, Ph. D.
Paul Beckwith has a masters degree in laser optics, which he has somehow parlayed into being a “Climate System Scientist” to spread alarmism about the climate system.

But his post “Unprecedented, Jet Stream Crosses Equator” suggests he knows little of meteorology, let alone climate.

A “jet stream” in the usual sense of the word is caused by the thermal wind, which cannot exist at the equator because there is no Coriolis force. To the extent that there is cross-equator flow at jet stream levels, it is usually from air flowing out of deep convective rain systems. That outflow often enters the subtropical jet stream, which is part of the average Hadley Cell circulation.

There is frequently cross-equatorial flow at jet stream altitudes, and that flow can connect up with a subtropical jet stream. But it has always happened, and always will happen, with or without the help of humans. Sometimes the flows connect up with each other and make it look like a larger flow structure is causing the jet stream to flow from one hemisphere to the other, but it’s in no way unprecedented.

We’ve really only known about jet streams since around WWII…one of my professors, Reid Bryson, was one of the first to advise the U.S. military that bombers flying to Japan might encounter strong head winds. The idea that something we have been observing for only several decades on a routine basis (upper tropospheric winds in the tropics) would exhibit “unprecedented” behavior is rather silly.

I especially like this portion of Paul’s post:

“We must declare a global climate emergency. Please consider a donation to support my work..”

Nice touch, Mr. Beckwith.

Although, I think last part was a low blow, perhpas due to their previous, long story bickering? ...

There is also a comment posted from an article of WP, that it does not help to their cause, neither --apart of the complaint about their "credentials/eduation", that seems to mo he do it on purpose to discredit their findings, is also this:
_https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/capital-weather-gang/wp/2016/06/30/claim-that-jet-stream-crossing-equator-is-climate-emergency-is-utter-nonsense/ said:
By Jason Samenow June 30 at 12:43 PM

Two bloggers have made a stunning claim that has spread like wildfire on the Internet: They say the Northern Hemisphere jet stream, the high-altitude river of winds that separates cold air from warm air, has done something new and outrageous. They say it has crossed the equator, joining the jet stream in the Southern Hemisphere. One said this signifies that the jet stream is ‘wrecked‘, the other said it means we have a “global climate emergency.”

But these shrill claims have no validity — air flow between the hemispheres occurs routinely. The claims are unsupported and unscientific, and they demonstrate the danger of wild assertions made by non-experts reaching and misleading the masses.

The two bloggers who have perpetuated this misinformation are Robert Scribbler, who describes himself as ” a progressive novelist, non-fiction writer and emerging threats expert,” and Paul Beckwith, who is working on a PhD with “a focus on abrupt climate system change” at the University of Ottawa.

Scribbler says the cross-equator flow is a manifestation of man-made global warming, supported by the hypothesis that disproportionate heating of the Arctic is destabilizing the jet stream. “The Hemispherical Jet Streams have moved out of the Middle Latitudes more and more,” he writes. “More and more it has invaded regions both within the Polar zone and within the Tropics. Now, it appears that the old dividing lines are so weak that flows of upper level air between Hemispheres can be exchanged.”

He concludes that this “violation of dividing lines” is “a kind of weather weirding that we are not at all really prepared to deal with.”

Beckwith writes that the jet stream behavior is “unprecedented” and represents “climate system mayhem”: “Our climate system behavior continues to behave in new and scary ways that we have never anticipated, or seen before. . . . We must declare a global climate emergency.”

I reached out to several atmospheric scientists, who have graduate degrees and are trusted sources in the profession, for their reaction to these claims. Without exception, they said air flow between the hemispheres is not at all uncommon.

“This is total nonsense,” said Cliff Mass, a professor of meteorology at the University of Washington. “Flow often crosses the equator.”

Mass added that the cross-equator flow identified by Scribbler and Beckwith is not between mid-latitude jet streams, as claimed. “The analysis is making mistakes that even one of my junior undergrads would not make,” Mass said.

Ryan Maue, a senior meteorologist with a doctoral degree who works at WeatherBell Analytics, agreed with Mass that the cross-equator flow is totally normal and not evidence of a joint hemispheric jet stream. “Cross-equatorial flow at both upper and lower levels is part of the seasonal transition of the Western Pacific monsoon through boreal summer,” he said.

“Sometimes the flows connect up with each other and make it look like a larger flow structure is causing the jet stream to flow from one hemisphere to the other, but it’s in no way unprecedented,” Roy Spencer, a professor of atmospheric science at University of Alabama-Huntsville, explained on his blog.

To be clear, the hypothesis that global warming is destabilizing the polar jet stream is a legitimate idea that has been published in peer-reviewed journals, though it remains controversial. But even the scientist who developed the hypothesis, Jennifer Francis, a professor of meteorology at Rutgers University, suggested it had been misapplied by Scribbler and Beckwith. “I’d say cross-equator flow cannot be unprecedented, maybe not even all that unusual,” she said. --- again with the global warming

Sam Lillo, who is working on his PhD in meteorology at the University of Oklahoma, said the cross-equator flow evolved from twin areas of high pressure on either side of the equator while a parade of atmospheric waves in the Southern Hemisphere had pushed the subtropical (which is distinct from the mid-latitude or polar jet stream that Scribbler and Beckwith are discussing) jet stream northward, allowing the link to occur. “None of this is unusual,” he said. “There isn’t a wall at the equator separating the two hemispheres, and air is free to flow from one side to the other.”

Scribbler had cited a tweet from Lillo to support his argument of a strengthened equator-to-pole connection, but Lillo countered that the tweet referred to some unusual behavior of a phenomenon known as the QBO or Quasi-Biennial Oscillation, which is “a separate story” from the cross-equator flow. The QBO, he said, is an oscillation in equatorial stratospheric winds, which has been “out of phase.” He chalked up the weird QBO behavior to natural variability “even though I’m an advocate for identifying connections to human-caused climate change.”

Unfortunately, the thoroughly specious claims of Scribbler and Beckwith have gone viral, getting picked up Raw Story, Reddit and Inhabitat. --- with that tittle, as expected, isn't it?

Such information viewed through the lens of a non-specialist may come across as both credible and alarming but damages the reputation of the science when ultimately shown to be flawed.

“This fear-mongering helps no one,” Maue said.

Examples like this demonstrate the pitfalls of extraordinary claims posted on blogs and the importance of consuming science that has been vetted and peer-reviewed.

... I wonder if it was their intention at the first place, to damage the reputation of science that is not embed in the peer-reviewed/approved science...

The Bergen-headquartered Norwegian firm Helium One has discovered one of our generation's greatest helium gas deposits. The discovery could be crucial in treating a variety of diseases as well promoting space exploration.

Norway's Revolutionary Helium Discovery Saves Humanity - for Seven Years
http://sputniknews.com/europe/20160630/1042209219/norway-helium-discovery.html

The 1.5 billion cubic meters rich helium deposit was discovered by Norwegians in collaboration with researchers from the universities of Oxford and Durham, wrote Norwegian national broadcaster NRK.

The discovery was made in the East African Rift Valley Region in Tanzania, where volcanic activity pushes helium masses up to the surface from bedrock depths.

Helium is perhaps most famous for being used in toy balloons, because one gets a strange voice when speaking after inhaling helium. On a more serious note, helium is widely used in aerospace, deep-sea diving, age determination and medicine. Perhaps the most down-to-earth feature of helium is that it is used for cooling in MRI machines in hospitals. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is used in a number of areas in medicine, including the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis.

A long-term shortage of helium had previously triggered panic in scientific circles, where there was worry that mankind might completely run out of the live-saving gas. The danger led doctors to call for a ban on using helium for frivolous activities like party balloons, in an attempt to conserve it.

In the universe, helium is one of the most common elements, but on earth it is scarce. The shortage of helium has led to prices skyrocketing by 500 percent over the past 15 years. Unlike other crucial elements, helium may only be struck accidentally, through drilling for oil and gas. The Norwegian find in Tanzania is enough to satisfy the world's annual demand for helium for seven straight years.

The newly discovered gas field in Tanzania allegedly holds enough helium "to fill over 1.2 million medical MRI scanners" and was described by scientists as "a game changer for the future security of society's helium needs."

It is the first time ever such a major field with helium gas has been found. Previously, small deposits of helium had been discovered along with other gas fields as a side effect of drilling for resources.

That said, the jet stream has been dipping further south than expected and, as an example, brought particularly cold weather to the UK and other parts of northern Europe during what should have been early spring. So i don't discount it as a possibility now or in the future. Yup, something is definitely up. Cross-equator "flow" is not the same thing as the stream actually dipping. I think that's damage control.

Not quite unprecedented; it has been pointed out to me that there were a few weaker incidents in 2015 and 2014.

If the first incident noted was in 2104, that may tie in with the Cs saying that 2014 was year zero or year 1, can't remember which. But anyway, at the very beginning they said that 4D wars would present as "weather". I think we are getting an idea of how real this is.

Yeah when i read the news about the jet streams crossing the equator - and "being all over the place" - my first thought, was this is the effect of the Wave arrival & cleansing process. We have changing magnetic fields; very low activity from the sun, and now air flow patterns that regulate Earth's temperature going unstable.....somethings definitely up, and looks like the war in 4D is definitely heating up with all this weather manifestations.. and down the rabbit hole we go...

Crippled Atlantic currents triggered ice age climate change

The last ice age wasn’t one long big chill. Dozens of times temperatures abruptly rose or fell, causing all manner of ecological change. Mysteriously, ice cores from Greenland and Antarctica show that these sudden shifts—which occurred every 1500 years or so—were out of sync in the two hemispheres: When it got cold in the north, it grew warm in the south, and vice versa. Now, scientists have implicated the culprit behind those seesaws—changes to a conveyor belt of ocean currents known as the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC).

These currents, which today drive the Gulf Stream, bring warm surface waters north and send cold, deeper waters south. But they weakened suddenly and drastically, nearly to the point of stopping, just before several periods of abrupt climate change, researchers report today in Science. In a matter of decades, temperatures plummeted in the north, as the currents brought less warmth in that direction. Meanwhile, the backlog of warm, southern waters allowed the Southern Hemisphere to heat up.

AMOC slowdowns have long been suspected as the cause of the climate swings during the last ice age, which lasted from 110,000 to 15,000 years ago, but never definitively shown. The new study “is the best demonstration that this indeed happened,” says Jerry McManus, a paleo-oceanographer at Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, and a study author. “It is very convincing evidence,” adds Andreas Schmittner, a climate scientist at Oregon State University, Corvallis. “We did not know that the circulation changed during these shorter intervals.”

To assess the strength of ancient ocean currents over the course of 35,000 years in the middle of the ice age, McManus and his colleagues examined a 10-meter section of a 38-meter sediment core drilled from the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. The core came from an elevated patch of sea floor known as the Bermuda Rise, where sediments accumulate abnormally fast. The thick layer allows for a more detailed reading of chemical changes within the sediments when they were buried.

Circulation slowdown

Ice Age climate swings may have come from the weakening of powerful Atlantic currents, in which shallow, warm waters move north (red), and deep, cold waters move south (blue).

gg_60513W_AtlanticConveyor_Online3.jpg

The researchers measured the ratio of two products of radioactive decay: protactinium-231 and thorium-230. These daughter isotopes come from trace amounts of uranium that are dissolved everywhere in seawater. If the ocean were as still as a bathtub, the two daughter isotopes would bind to sediment particles, settle downward, and become buried at a constant ratio. But thorium gloms on to particles more readily than protactinium. It is therefore buried more readily, whereas protactinium tends to be carried away by ocean currents for burial elsewhere. At places like the Bermuda Rise, where the Atlantic conveyor belt is typically strong, little protactinium ends up in the sediments—except for four instances when the ratio to thorium rose sharply in a matter of decades to centuries, indicating the AMOC’s sudden weakening.

A 2014 study of the AMOC, based on a core from a nearby spot on the Bermuda Rise, found that the currents maintained much of their strength throughout the last glacial period. But because that team took fewer samples from the core and missed the sharp swings in strength. “Now these [new] guys have increased incredibly the data resolution,” says Jörg Lippold, a paleo-oceanographer at the University of Heidelberg in Germany and the leader of the 2014 study. “They found the peaks we missed.”

Still unclear is what triggered the AMOC’s sudden slowdowns. Many of the drops correspond to so-called Heinrich events: rapid releases of icebergs from Canada’s ice sheet. These iceberg armadas often chugged through the Hudson Strait of Canada and may have discharged more ice into the Atlantic Ocean than contained in the entire ice cap of Greenland, raising ancient sea levels by 10 meters. The meltwater brought incredible amounts of freshwater to the North Atlantic, precisely where ocean currents cool off and sink. Because freshwater is less dense than saltwater, it can plug up the AMOC, preventing the overturning and deep water formation the fuels the circulation’s engine. The slowdowns persisted for 1500 years or so, then the AMOC would suddenly regain strength as freshwater melt dissipated and the currents reached a certain threshold, McManus says.

But weak AMOCs are not always accompanied by a Heinrich event, and the timing is fuzzy—some Heinrich events seem to occur after the AMOC already began to weaken. “The Heinrich events may be a response to the change in the overturning circulation rather than a cause,” Schmittner says.

Another question is whether the AMOC—currently known to be in decline—could drop off suddenly today, as depicted in the 2004 movie The Day After Tomorrow, causing temperatures to plummet across northwestern Europe. Schmittner says the past provides an eye-opener. “It’s evidence that this really did happen in the past, on short time scales.” But McManus says that studies looking deeper into the ice ages have found that the 1500-year climate oscillations tend not to be nearly as strong during interglacial periods. “It would suggest that this kind of thing isn’t so likely to happen today,” he says. On the other hand, he adds, “In most interglacials, Greenland didn’t melt … and Greenland is currently melting.”

I've been saying for years that I think the heat of "global warming" is coming from INSIDE OUR PLANET mainly, and in some kind of dynamic interaction with the cosmic environment, and certainly not from human causes.

Here's another recent and rather startling example of what is happening. But, of course, they blame it on GW.

This extraordinary sight - in a video filmed of the tundra on remote Belyy Island in the Kara Sea off the Yamal Peninsula coastline - was witnessed by a scientific research expedition. Researchers Alexander Sokolov and Dorothee Ehrich spotted 15 patches of trembling or bubbling grass-covered ground.

When punctured they emitted methane and carbon dioxide, according to measurements, although so far no details have been given. The reason is as yet unclear, but one possible explanation of the phenomenon is abnormal heat that caused permafrost to thaw, releasing gases.

6 minute video from Adapt2030 - says the Grand solar minimum is obviously here and the changes reflect the usual pattern; increased rainfall in South America with a decrease in temps. I found the statistics quoted and photographs of the damaged crops sent in from farmers interesting. It's not necessary to watch the video though as much of the info is in the description:

Brazilian frosts destroying crops - coffee in particular; hail damaging crops and 2500 properties.

'Brazil suffering record cold temperatures again in July 2016 after a cold wave that damaged agriculture in June 2016. Arabica coffee beans stand at 36% loss [representing 80% of production], bananas 70% loss in Ribeira, Argentina 30% loss of raisin production and Chile clementine 30% increase. The grand solar minimum is here, South America is repeating the normal pattern expected climate wise during the GSM.'

c.a's post above from the same youtuber gives other examples as to how these events are happening worldwide.
