Here is the response I received:
I clearly remember that night. You remember scary shit like that when it happens close to home.

I was watching network television that evening when the local station broke in to report that a commercial airliner was shot down by a missile right off the beach. Shortly afterward that evening it was reported that many eyewitnesses in different places had seen the missile hit the plane and it seemed like a heat seeking missile because of how it turned slightly. They even showed a home video of the missile hitting the plane and the plane falling apart.

Not even an hour later, the news changed the story completely and discounted all the witnesses and it wasn't mentioned again that night that the plane was struck by a missile. The next day, everyone was talking about how the story changed the night before and how it must have been sabotage or a conspiracy. It was like after JFK was shot. Only the local independent media kept on top of eye witness accounts. There were hundreds of witnesses. Eventually people just gave up talking about it because there was absolutely NOTHING anyone could do.

But if you talk to people on the island, most will tell you the same thing if they were watching tv that night. The missile report was in the very first TV interruption. Many saw the video of the missile as I did and most were/are concerned that there was a coverup.

Peter are you following the crash of the plane off the coast of Long Island just 2 months after 9/11? That's another coverup story that locals love to talk about.

Hey, I should move. It's scary here.
The planecrash my friend refers to was the Nov. 12, 2001 crash of Flight 587. I invite interested readers to GoogleSearch "Flight 587" (with quotes) where there are over 91,000 "hits", including an interesting one from (as questionable a source as it might be) Rense entitled "The FBI Will Never Find The Terrorist Who Caused the Crash" By Marshall Smith, Editor, BroJon Gazette.
