The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) was reportedly in charge of executing a drone attack against a port facility located on the coast of Venezuela at the beginning of December, in what constitutes the first known attack by the United States against a land target inside that country. The information was revealed by CNN, from sources familiar with the operation, after Trump claimed that an attack had been carried out on Venezuelan soil.

According to an article published by Cadena Americana, the target was a remote dock used by the criminal organization Tren de Aragua for the storage of drugs and their subsequent transfer to vessels destined for international trafficking. There were no people at the scene at the time of the attack, so no casualties were recorded. The operation had intelligence support from the US Special Operations Forces, the informants quoted by CNN said.

Both Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and the number two of the ruling party, Diosdado Cabello, have so far opted for silence in the face of the US president's statements. There were also no public reports by the Venezuelan government or other local authorities confirming an attack of American origin on port facilities in the country.
