Venezuela: Resistance or disintegration?

TeleSur reports today:

Venezuela Foils Staged Attack at Border with Colombia

teleSUR correspondent in Venezuela said Venezuelan immigration Police were securing the border point and that members of the Venezuelan army were deployed at the scene.
A group of right-wing terrorists Saturday took over multiple armored vehicles that belong to the Venezuelan armed forces and rammed into border barriers at the Venezuelan-Colombian border in a staged operation ordered by right-wing opposition members in Colombia.

According to teleSUR reporters at the scene, armored vehicles of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) rammed into the Venezuelan security barrier installed in the Simon Bolivar international bridge and then three infiltrated terrorists fled to Colombia where they were received by two leaders of the Venezuelan far right.

teleSUR correspondent in Venezuela Madeleine García said that Venezuelan immigration Police were securing the border point and that members of the Venezuelan army were deployed at the scene. "Three soldiers were moved to Colombian territory, but not all the armed forces of Venezuela."

Garcia said that at least one member of the border security force was injured in the staged attack as well as a Chilean photographer who was at the scene.

Some good referral links and news-feed and comments from a few individuals close to the action. One comment was that reports of
Venezuelan national guard desertions was "fake" news. Reuters has taken a pro-Guaido posture and there are hints that WaPo is feeding off reports of a suppose "Reuter's witness" at the scene? I have my suspicions that Reuters has tried to monopolize itself, so it can control access and content on current and developing issues and is one of the main instigators behind the chaos RT has endured?

Venezuelan troops blocking a border bridge with Colombia fired tear gas on Saturday to repel dozens of opposition lawmakers and activists walking toward the frontier to receive humanitarian aid from the Colombian side, a Reuters witness said.

Three Venezuelan soldiers desert before planned aid handover, Colombia says

Three members of the Venezuelan national guard deserted their posts early on Saturday, Colombia's migration agency said, ahead of a planned opposition-led effort to bring aid into the economically-devastated county.

Venezuela aid convoy moves to Colombia border, troops fire tear gas

Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido gave a personal send off to an aid caravan from the Colombian city of Cucuta toward the border between the two countries on Saturday, pledging to bring food and medicine to a hungry population despite President Nicolas Maduro's resistance.

About an hour and a half of daylight left, anyone watching CNN Spanish or one of the South American news channels have been witness to the hour by hour events of this day, the 23rd of February.

The first so-called "aid" convoy truck was torched by Bolivarian forces halting the further advance of the convoy from Colombia to Venezuela. Ongoing clashes amid teargas. Report that 23 Venezuelan soldiers have crossed over to Colombia for asylum.

Reports of injuries and 2 deaths along the southern Brasilian-Venezuela border.

Maduro has cut off relations with Colombia and their diplomats must leave Venezuela in 24 hours.

The Red Cross is accusing subversives of faking their symbol in the aid convoy. RC doesn't have any operations in Venezuela. More info from tweets in the article.

Red Cross denounces unsanctioned use of its emblems to smuggle US aid to Venezuela
The largest international aid organization has demanded that activists at the Venezuela-Colombia border not use the insignia of the Red Cross, which isn’t participating in what Caracas has dismissed as a US “propaganda show.”

The Red Cross learned that some “people not affiliated” with the agency are trying to disguise themselves as aid workers to smuggle cargo for Venezuela’s opposition across the closed frontiers.
“They might mean well but they risk jeopardizing our neutrality, impartiality & independence,” the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies said.
We urge them to stop doing this
Earlier, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza stressed that the UN and the International Red Cross are not participating in the “propaganda show” staged by the United States. “It is clearly an action with political objectives, it could never be described as a humanitarian action,” he said on Twitter, accusing the governments involved in the US plot of violating the principles of the UN charter.

The government of Nicolas Maduro has sealed off the borders with neighboring Colombia, Brazil and the Dutch island of Curacao, trying to prevent US shipments from entering the Latin American State. Caracas denounced the ‘aid’ as a highly-publicized attempt to foster division and chaos, and possibly to use it as a cover to smuggle arms to the country’s opposition.

Colombian leader orders humanitarian convoy to return

Colombian Foreign Minister Carlos Holmes Trujillo said on Saturday that President Ivan Duque ordered the trucks with humanitarian assistance for Venezuela to return back from the border with Venezuela.

"Measures were taken upon direct instructions by President Duque. Protecting people in the border zone remains the Colombian government’s priority, therefore, the trucks are returning," the minister told reporters in the city of Cucuta on the Colombian-Venezuelan border.

The vessel, which left Puerto Rico on Wednesday, is reported to carry 250 tonnes of humanitarian cargo.

A group of six Venezuelan Navy warships has headed on a mission to intercept a vessel with humanitarian cargo sailing to the country from Puerto Rico, journalist Victor Amaya said on his Twitter page on Saturday.

"Attention, six vessels of the Bolivarian Navy of Venezuela, including an F-22 frigate and two patrol boats, have taken to the sea to intercept a ship with humanitarian aid heading to Venezuela from Puerto Rico," Amaya said.

The ship is now back in international waters.

Venezuelan Navy intercepts ship with humanitarian cargo

A group of six Venezuelan Navy warships on Saturday intercepted a vessel with humanitarian cargo sailing to the country from Puerto Rico, journalist Mariana Reyes said in a Twitter message.

"Venezuelan Navy ships do not permit the vessel to keep moving," she wrote. "Threats are being made to open fire and convoy it to the Bonair Island [the territory of The Netherlands in the Caribbean]. Attempts are being made to negotiate."

Later, the journalist wrote that the ship made an u-turn and headed back to international waters. "It is now in international waters and waiting for further instructions," Reyes added.

The opposition’s attempts to deliver the cargo have so far proved unsuccessful.

Interesting day, yesterday in Venezuela.

Among other things, Marco Rubio, John Bolton and Mike Pompeo are accusing Maduro of burning a truck with "aid":

It turns out that the truck was burned by gang members on the side of Colombia, as these pictures show:

Also, the two armored vehicles that were rammed on a checkpoint, injuring a number of people, were stolen by 3 deserting Venezuelan soldiers, immediately received on the other side with open arms:

(Continued...)

In this video, starting from min 11:45 we can see the infamous 'guarimbas' (barricades and violent gangs that love to make trouble in Venezuela) throwing stones at the Venezuelan police, which responded with tear gas. Marco Rubio was complaining that this was 'shooting at Colombia' or something - I suppose that the policemen should have just dropped their shields and taken the stones with their cheeks:

Juan Guaidó was probably expecting that something bigger would happen. Since it didn't, he is now tweeting that he is "officially" calling on the international community to "keep all options on the table" to "free" Venezuela, which of course is a euphemism for a military intervention - that treacherous slimy bug:

Arch-psychopath John Bolton is tweeting that they'll sanction Venezuela more if the "humanitarian aid" is not allowed through! Oh the irony! Does he even read what he types??

The whole thing is making me angry at Trump. How would he feel if Hillary Clinton asked for aid and support to oust him from the White House? He's setting a very bad precedent. But then, what else is new?

I think we ought to get out and tweet to Trump that he needs to leave Venezuela alone and clean up the swamp.

I'm totally upset with Trump, too ... for publicly backing Juan Guaidó! It sends out cross-war-signals that goes against Trump's other Peace initiatives to pull troops out of Syria and Afghanistan? He's giving the impression, he's flip-flopping sides to accommodate the War Hawks, that he, himself, has placed within his own inner circle? None of this is making any common sense? Is it possible, Trump is playing a dangerous game in giving the War Hawks enough rope to hang themselves?

Yesterday's big plans of delivering "aid" and inciting a riot have failed to produce it's intended results. Guaido is now left standing with egg on his face, while VP Pence is in route today, to meet Guaido and the Lima group in Columbia, to help pick up the pieces.

Looking at it from my end, VP Pence, Bolton and Pompeo have "Royally-screwed-up" in an "second attempted staged Coup"? And the whole World is watching because they openly made such a big splash that they were going to go into Venezuela ... and just ... take over!
So, now what? A third attempt is destined to turn out the same - (three strikes and your out!) - really highlights American Foreign Policy.

As for Trump, he's in route to Vietnam to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. That's another interesting situation. It's been rumored that Kim doesn't like to fly but why spend two and a half days on a train to reach a secret destination in Vietnam? I speculate, there's much more to that meeting, then meets the press? Is it just a meeting between Trump and Kim or has Trump scheduled several meetings - some with other Top Dignitaries? This is the first meeting outside of the US, since the partial Government shut down.

TRNN brings us this short interview with Yves Engler on Canada's play in this push of a Venezuela attempted coup. Also noted was that Engler has a book out 'Left, Right Marching to the Beat of Imperial Canada' which may well get at the nuts and bolts of Canada's past and present actions.

Right of the bat, TRNN mentions the Red Cross and others refusing to participate with this so called AID as the whole thing has become too politicized, and then Engler backdrops on the LIMA group and one of its ring masters, Freeland.

There are many many in Canada that are none to pleased at having our government not only act this way, yet siphon off Canadian's earned wages to promote another, like Lybia, Ukraine and Syria's regime change. In retrospect, each successive government acts the same, and each opposition party supports these same acts as a satellite country supporting this grand hedemonic game to improve control and corporate welfare. The pretext, humanitarianism, is just the MSM lamp posts ligitimizing message (nothing new here) to help rally citizens support for official policy (actually, I don't even think they care what citizens think anymore. If a new government is the result after 4 years, so be it, it matters not to those pulling the strings.).

Canadian analyst Yves Engler discusses the history of Canadian humanitarian aid, which all too often works to support US foreign policy interests and have nothing to do with genuine concern for people's suffering.

I'm pretty sure this exact tweet will go down in history as marking an important tipping point for the US empire. Think about the implications of taking off the mask of sanity for the world to see.

Not only are they are admitting that they were pretty much responsible for removing Gadaffi (no people's revolution), but they are threatening that "we can do this to you too". The US is openly a criminal gang, and if the whole world didn't know it then they do now. And if they have any sense, they will unite together against it.

For sure. The twitterverse is generally outraged about it, though if you scroll down Rubio's page, the nutcases are cheering. There's a campaign on to report the tweet as abusive. I know I did. These people have lost their minds.

PACARAIMA, BRAZIL (Sputnik) - Agents from Brazil's National Security Force helped ease the border with Venezuela at Pacaraima by expanding the security cordon on the border line separating the two countries.

Throughout February 24, Venezuelan demonstrators on the Brazilian side provoked members of the Bolivarian National Guard by burning objects and throwing stones, until the Venezuelan military reacted by launching tear gas bombs to disperse them.

As happened on Saturday, some of those gas bombs fell on the Brazilian side, so soon after the Brazilian National Force opted to move all the curious ones who were in the area about 100 meters more towards the Brazilian territory.

In this way, the crowd was further away from the Venezuelan military who continue to close the border, which prevented new incidents.

The afternoon of February 24 was also marked by the arrival of around a thousand supporters of Nicolás Maduro's government from the Venezuelan side, accompanied by some authorities.

Singing the national anthem and with large flags, they accompanied a truck crane that hoisted the Venezuelan flag again on the border line, which a group of demonstrators from the Brazilian side had started on Saturday afternoon.

Throughout February 24 there was no new attempt to enter Venezuela with humanitarian aid; the only two vans that reached Pacaraima remain in the city, but parked far from the border line.
