Visual acumen test

Dang it! I counted the correct number of passes, missed the gorilla AND the curtain changing colors!!!

The gorilla is in the details. lol

Fun though, but I can NOT believe that gorilla was on the screen for 9 seconds and I didn't even see him!! Nor did I see the other black shirted player leave!

ARRGGG! (Beats chest like gorilla)

Fun test! I can't wait to read what everyone else sees!

Well, I missed everything, the gorilla, curtain changing colors, and player walking off, plus I got the number of passes wrong!

Bah.
did this test a few years back as I use this video clip when I teach the topic of perception and selective attention to psychology undergrads. All I remember is I was not able to keep track of the passes but did see the gorilla, curtain change etc. So much for me following instructions.

brainwave

Okay... I got the correct number of passes but by half way through the video knew something was wrong cause it was simply too easy. However focusing on the passing, I missed the gorilla, player leaving and curtain color change. :P

I also think this is a great example of networking. Thanks SAO. ;)

Selective attention test

A friend of mine recently showed me this selective attention test. See if you can count the balls! If you try it and respond here, make sure that you make a *spoiler alert* so that other people have a chance to do it objectively. Have fun :)

Re: Selective attention test

Oh no -- I just violated the one of the cardinal rules of forum usage and didn't do a search to see if this had already been posted. How embarrassing. It looks like I missed all the fun on this the first time around when I was away this past July.

And this was going to be my follow-up -- also taken care of! Thanks Nicolas :)

I think what would be really interesting would be to repeat the first half of the video, and then present the viewer with a quiz:

1.) How many passes did the white players make?
2.) How many passes did the black players make?
3.) Choose the first color that comes to your mind on this list (list of colors)
4.) Choose the first animal that comes to your mind on this list (list of animals)

THEN, play the second half of the video to explain why you thought you randomly chose "gorilla" LOL

Good find!

I counted the correct number of passes, saw the gorilla, and saw the curtain change colors. However, I did not notice a black shirt player leave the game as I was focusing on counting passes of white shirts.

If the test were like your quiz questions I would have failed, because I do not focus on details unless I see something off or have a goal. Quizzes like that made me frustrated in english class. Although I knew the plot, teachers were obsessed with asking obscure questions such as: " what color shirt was so and so wearing when speaking to so and so?" which I did not care to remember as it usually had nothing to do with the plot. It was ironic that some students in my class did perfect on those quizzes, yet had no idea on what the aim of the plot was going to.

So, I really don't think this test is a good judge of awareness or visual acumen as we all have to focus on SOMETHING. It seems like someone with severe ADHD would be able to count all of the passes and see everything, lol.
