Vitali Churkin, Russian ambassador to the UN suddenly dies in NY

I was hoping to see that the news is fake, but sadly not. This is very sad and upsetting. He seemed to be OK man and a great diplomat.

Very sad, I read about it on SOTT earlier. Condolences to Mr. Churkin's family and the Russian nation.

The recent pattern does make one wonder - not looking good, though too early to tell if there's foul play.

Feel the same way too - really sad feeling :(

Too early to tell if its foul play - but somehow my gut feel tells me it is (could be wrong). The Empire is vindictively striking back. Russian Ambassadors, Vitaly Churkin, Givi and Motorola in the Donbass, Michael Flynn's resignation...i recall Givi was torched alive in his apartment...sigh!

I think its only going to get worse - and C's line in the last session about "Chills up your spine" comes to mind.

Immediately I thought of the other Russia diplomats who 'died suddenly,' and saw this on Sott.

Vitaly Churkin was one of the wisest voices in international diplomacy. His voice will no longer echo in the halls of the United Nations. Articulate, polite yet commanding, wise yet affable, he oversaw some of Russia's and the world's most important events in a position he occupied since 2006.

Churkin had to face a great deal of hostile criticism from both the Bush and Obama administrations during his time at the UN, but he always did so with grace. He never failed to explain the Russian position with the utmost clarity.

Standing next to some of his colleagues, he often looked like a titan in a room full of school children.

His death, a day before his 65th birthday, is a tragedy first and foremost for his family, friends and colleagues. It is also a deeply sad day for the cause of justice, international law and all of the principles of the UN Charter which Churkin admirably upheld in the face of great obstacles.

His death however raises many uncomfortable questions.

Here are 5 things that must be considered:

1. A Macabre Pattern Has Emerged

Beginning in 2015, there were several deaths within the Russian Diplomatic corps and a special Russian Presidential adviser.

- LESIN

First there was Russia's RT founder and special adviser to President Putin, Mikhail Lesin. He died in November of 2015 in his hotel room. Reports said that he appeared discombobulated during his last sighting before he died. Later it emerged that he died of a blunt head trauma. Drinking was blamed, but many questions were left unanswered.

- MALANIN

Earlier last month, Andrei Malanin, Russia's Ambassador to Greece was found dead in his bathroom. The causes of death remains unknown.

- KADAKIN

Just last month, Russia's Ambassador to India, Alexander Kadakin, an always prestigious role, died of a heart attack, although no one was aware of any previous health issues.

- KARLOV

In December of last year Russia's ambassador to Turkey was assassinated by a lone jihadi gunmen in an art gallery. There was no effective security as the killer simply walked up to Ambassador Andrei Karlov and shot him multiple times in the back.

- CHURKIN

Vitaly Chirkin is the highest profile member of Russia's diplomatic corps to die in recent years.

2. A Motive For Foul Play?

Each of the recently deceased Russian Ambassadors were high profile targets for miscreants and criminals, whether state actors, mercenaries or fanatics.

Lesin was a instrumental in the creation of RT, a news outlet which has come under constant attack from the western establishment.

Malanin had overseen a period of warming fraternal relations between Greece and Russia at a time when Greece is feeling increasingly alienated from both the EU and NATO.

Karlov is said to be responsible for helping to facilitate the rapprochement between Presidents Erdogan and Putin.

Kadakin oversaw a period of renewed tensions between India and Pakistan at a time when Russia was trying to continue its good relations with India whilst building good relations with Pakistan.

On the 31st of December, 2016, Churkin's resolution on a ceasefire in Syria passed in the UN Security Council after months of deadlock. The resolution is still in force.

Anyone who wanted to derail the diplomatic successes that the aforementioned men achieved for Russia would have a clear motive to extract vengeance.

3. Who Stands To Gain?

In the matter of Karlov, any derailment of restored Russo-Turkish relations would be good for those happy for Turkey to continue her support of jihadists in Syria rather than moving towards accepting a Russian and indeed Iranian brokered peace process which respects the sovereignty of Syria as Russia and Iran always have, but Turkey has not.

In the case of Lesin, anyone wanting 'vengeance' for RT's popularity would be able to say that a kind of former media boss was taken down.

For Malanin, many fear that if 'Grexit' happens, Russia will become an increasingly important partner for Greece. The EU would not like one of its vassal states enjoying fruitful relations with Russia, a country still under sanctions from Brussels.

For Kadakin, it is a matter of interest for those wanting Pakistan to continue favouring western powers and not wanting Russia to be able to mediate in conflict resolutions between New Delhi and Islamabad.

Churkin had come to dominate the UN in ways that his counterparts on the Security Council simply could not. No one really stood a chance in a debate with Churkin. His absence leaves open the possibility for a power vacuum that would makes other peoples' jobs easier.

4. Where The Deaths Took Place

Each death took place on foreign soil. Mr. Karlov's killing in particular, exposed the weakness of his security contingent. If security was that weak in a comparatively volatile place like Turkey, it goes without saying that security in states considered more politically stable would be even more lax.

Again it must be said that a non-biased detective might say that the only pattern which has emerged is that many people in the Russian diplomatic corps and related institutions have heart attacks. Maybe they eat fatty foods every day and drink and smoke too much. But if this was this case, why are the heart attacks all on foreign soil?

If all of the former Ambassadors except Karlov were really in bad health, is it really just a coincidence that none of these men had a health scare on Russian soil? Again, a pattern has emerged.

5. The Ethics of Speculation?

Many will say that it is too early to suspect foul play. Indeed, I must make it clear that this is simply speculation based on a pattern of tragic and at times unexplained events, combined with the objective reality that because of Russia's recently elevated profile as a born-again geopolitical superpower, Russia is a bigger target for international criminals than it was in the broken 1990s or the more quiet early 2000s.

When such events happen, one's duty is to speculate so that better health and safety precautions are taken to ensure the well being of Russia's important diplomats. Furthermore, if foul play is a factor, it means that such seemingly unrelated events must be investigated more thoroughly.

Russia has historically suffered from invasion, revolution and more recently from immense international pressure. The Russian people, like Russia's ambassadors are entitled to the peace and long lives deserved by any member of a country that has suffered for too long.

Seems like the Military Industrial Media Complex had means and motive...

Very shocking and very sad. :(

He was an extremely competent and brilliant diplomat, and can be definitely counted on the same level as Dag Hammarskjold.

I found the following video that gives a basic rundown of the news, including the speculation of him being murdered. It is a video by Kev Baker, and apparently he is some sort of conspiracy/Illuminati nut, so not sure if what he says is valid. Haven't listened to his stuff before. At least in this video he mostly gives the facts and advises to watch closely the news during the next few days.

I too was absolutely shocked and deeply saddened with the sudden passing of Mr Churkin. When first reading about it I really didn't believe it and I too thought it was fake news.
After frantically searching the net and discovering that it was indeed true, my next thought was that he had been assassinated.
Whether we will get to know the actual truth or not, the death of this wonderful man is a huge loss to us all.

I woke up with my mind upset about this death, which follows a long line of deaths.

A few things:
1) The key weapon in the current war involving the Empire and Russia has been diplomacy and Russia has won every battle on the diplomatic front for the last many years. If it has been a hot war with actual weapons, the opponents would try to take out these superiour 'guns' by what ever means. Now that looks to be what is happening but against the diplomatic superiour 'guns'.

2) Samantha Power was one of the very first to lament the death of Churkin (her twitter message on RT), which to me was like she was overdoing it. She, if anyone hated the sight of Churkin, as he was way superiour and had always exposed her silly unhinged rants at the UN for exactly what they were: unhinged rants. Not once did she get even close to being an equal, so her 'sad' words sounded more as a way to deflect suspicion from her and her warmongering lot.

3) Mike Morell, the former acting CIA director and a key Clinton man, said that they were going to kill Russians covertly and send Putin a message and I think Biden and the Obama said the same thing of wanting to make Putin pay and feel pain for having basically destroyed the warmongers game plan over and over.

4) The prestigeous Russian choir, the Alexandrov Ensemble, which one could also say served in a diplomatic way by being good ambassadors for Russia and Russian culture was also taken out. Another soft target.

5) The Russians would know that they are being targeted and it is part of the neocons, democrats warmongers attempts at ruining any attempts of better US-Russian relations between the new Trump administration and Russia.

6) One could suspect that a new operation Condor has started where the empire is going after soft targets and it being the top leaders and intellectuals.

7) It follows a similar pattern of taking out the leadership in Donbass as Mr. Cyan mentioned above, and thus force Russia to move in a direction that they don't want to go.

The Ukrainian nationalists in Maidan square celebrated the announcement of the death of the Russian ambassador, just as they did when the Russian choir ensemble died. This is most likely also the reaction behind the screen by the US warmongers.

In line with the Ukrainian nationalists (nice word for fascists), the Ukrainian coup government blocked a UN statement dedicated to the Russian ambassador, Vitali Churkin.

Russian FM Spokeswoman Slams Ukraine for Blocking UN Statement on Russian Envoy

On Tuesday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova slammed on her Facebook page Ukraine's decision to block the adoption by the UN Security Council of a statement dedicated to late Russian ambassador Vitaly Churkin.

"This is the real essence of the current Ukrainian authorities: they cannot do anything well, they only spoil everything for everyone, even for themselves," Zakharova said.

Russian ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin passed away on Monday, February 20, in New York. Churkin had served as Russia's permanent representative to the UN and the Russian representative in the UN Security Council from April 2006. The diplomat would have turned 65 on Tuesday, February 21.

Along with diplomats from all over the world who expressed their condolences to Churkin's family, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that it is difficult to overestimate the achievements of late Russian Ambassador: "For more than 10 years, sometimes in extremely stressful circumstances, he firmly and consistently defended Russia's position on major international issues, which required tremendous effort and dedication."

If you know Russian, watch this interview with Maria Zakharova where she talks about Vitaly Churkin, and what kind of extraordinary person he was. She also talks about a total and complete surprise about his death, and what kind of birthday celebration they planned for him, and that there was no indication what so ever that he had any health problems.

I felt so sad when reading this thread. This period is so fraught with events that is quite draining.

I sent a silent Thank you for him, for his whole life and work.

Such evil and demonic acts we seem to be witnessing nearly on a daily basis now. Soo so sad losing such special people power - the beautiful role models purposefully killed in their prime. All the alternative health practitioners too. Those who report the truth blown up or murdered. Practically everyone from every domain.

About time a 'peoples' warrior band is formed from all good undercover agents and take out the perpetrators covertly too! Can that be STO? An alternative UN band where people fight back in a like for like fashion covertly? For the sake of humanity. I sure wish so.

Too many people but now be aware of this evil being perpetrated. Are we really so defenceless? Everyone is so sickened and stressed out by these sub-species. Trouble is the longer they get away with these acts the more they will multiply and the less chance anyway.

I guess the planet is so locked into their evil cycles now that the only way out is what we are currently aiming for.

At least the sicko 'rebels' are killing each other in Syria. Small hope they all turn on each other!!

Good points, but on the above, there's no way to know that it was a deliberate act by someone.

This is very tragic! My condolences to Mr. Churkin's family and all of Russia on their great loss - AGAIN!

Very true! We only have suspicions and no hard evidence at the moment. That goes for just about all the cases. When one adds them up along with the timing and the assertions from the top US official, then a picture emerges. To what extend that picture is accurate or in the ball game at all remains to be seen. We need more information for anything conclusive. Having said that, the Russian intelligence will most likely have more clues to go on, that are not - and likely won't be - revealed so the next moves in the coming months could well add hints to the accuracy of the picture.

Speaking of Russian intelligence, recently Putin spoke at the annual FSB gathering, and he shared that during the year of 2016 were uncovered and apprehended 386 foreign intelligence agents and 53 members of staff/personnel. This is apparently a lot for one year. And since the preferred way of dealing with spies is to watch them and feed them with disinfo, the fact that so many were "uncovered" means that there are much more that are being watched. According to Putin, most of them try to gain access to various secret military and technological data.
