Judging from the damage, I think they downgraded it. I do believe it was stronger. Let's see what the Costa Rican geology center says later on. Not that they might necessarily say the truth, but at least they keep their own measuring gadgets. The 1991 earthquake was stronger according to their measurements in comparison to the US. geological measurements. The interesting thing is that I read this years later on a book and it was never officially admitted, at least not that I remember.

Yes the land has risen so the sea back!!!
The damage mainly is in infrastructure, streets bridges and many houses in pacific side....There is no dead people :) ; The earthquake was felt in all the country.
Our community doesn't present any damage and the people around are just scare of the strong earthquake, my kids are with me now and we are just hearing any news about it to look for any new event!

Yes, in the radio they said that C.Rica downgraded it. I don't know why? And they also said that there were no victims. But this earthquake was very strong!

The person in charge of the Geological Institute, when Radio Relog (local Radio) asked about the grade of the earthquake he said it was 6.7 which I thought it was low compare with such movement!!! But when the reporter said to him that the USGS Eathquake reported 7,9 initially he then said "Ok we dont have way to measure so fast because we are near from the event!!!!!

So all the news took as refference the USGS report.
