Wealthy women that dress and behave like streetwalkers...

I saw some of the recent Oscars outfits here:
http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2016/02/29/oscars-2016-after-party_n_9347676.html

My first thought is that this group's appeal is starting to slip, so now they are trying really hard to get and keep some attention on themselves. Kind of sad.
I don't think of myself as a prude, yet this level of undress disturbs me. Does everyone invited get a memo on what (not) to wear?

Then there is this following video (and plenty more like it). Beyonce is a married, wealthy woman. She has no real need to behave this way, even for show. She is a huge influence on young girls. It is heartbreaking. Please don't watch more than a few seconds of this sad sample of acceptable show business product. This is a top tier pop music video. :(
Her husband is not warrior material, apparently.

Mods: Please delete the video if I have crossed a line in bringing up this subject.

Well, I think Beyonce is a puppet slave of the corporate (and higher) media social culture manipulation machine. This kind of stuff is exactly what she is paid/programmed to do. The 'marriage' to Jay-Z is likely a sham. Heartbreaking and gut-wrenching and disturbing? Totally Yes. I think that is kind of the whole point. Misogyny to the max. Ugh. Hey girls, act like a ho = expression of powerful woman. Makes me want to puke too as I have a 16 year old daughter. The vigilant citizen has done some nice analytical work in this pop-culture arena which is worth checking out IMO.

I think this is tied into the Sott Radio Show
The Health & Wellness Show: The Death of Intimacy: Porn and the Ponerization of Sex that aired on May 13th which I think you might find very interesting.

It's only 1:45:00 long, and the host really dive into discussing and examining the sexualization of our culture. Honestly, they discourse too much for me to even try to give you an leveled synopsis of it. If you haven't listened to it, I highly suggest you do.

I have tried to listen to it many times. It always comes up on the podcast list as 'not available' when I try to listen.

You should be able to listen to the show directly from this page:

I just tried streaming it and it works fine. You could also use one of the download links on the page.

The sexualization of women is certainly being pushed to even more extremes theses days. :(

The Osacr "gowns" over all certainly show this trend and its heavy (or very light and see through!) There where a few exceptions in the pictures shown on the Huffington post that I thought where rather nice though. Diane Kruger and Natasha Ploy (especially) are wearing delicate, lacy and very feminine gowns that are aesthetically pleasing I think. In another way of looking at it, the beauty of the womans body is being accented, adorned and highlighted by this apparel. Seen with an artists eye, the transparency in materials is very acceptable and even necessary. Of course, this isn't the over all trend or purpose of whats being presented. Many of the other outfits shown are totally missing this feminine, aesthetic quality, being blunt and hard to the senses.

What would Joan Rivers have to say on this one...

That video .. It's amazing people haven't just lost all interest in sex and glamour by now. Looks like we're a long way from that happening.

More than anything it's the cultural following and grip on people's minds that they have which really gets me. Like on the video comments:

I would be quite happy for all these 'perfect ones' to just go and move to an island somewhere. They could take a boat load of champagne & coke, take pics of each other all day, and just live out the rest of their days in bliss until they swiftly run out of food and shelter.

Future sociologists and anthropologists will have a back up of these Instagrams. It will be understood what went wrong with humanity in our time.

Or future psychiatrists, if society returns back to some sanity, because what today passes for normal behaviour is not, and it's getting worse.

I miss the times where women where fighting these type of things. But America is the country of guns, sex and drugs. Sex sells well, the body of women is the perfect tool. It is sad. I really hate Hollywood.

Yeah, a pretty horrible video. Heartbreaking really, like you said..especially as my niece is a fan of Beyoncé.

I admit, in high school I had an album by Destiny's Child (where Beyonce got her start). Looked it up and the name of the album is 'The Writing's on the Wall.' Just listened to a bit of the lyrics to a couple of the songs too...cringe  This album from the late 90's would be considered very tame in comparison to the above I think. Just goes to show how much more crude, extreme and desperate mainstream music is these days.

Anyway, don't remember caring for much else of their music and wasn't a fan of Beyonce's music when she went solo. Just disturbing all around though..the influence that mainstream music in particular has on people..I know it definitely had an influence on me around my niece's age.

Plan to also listen to the sott radio show above. Been putting it off I think, as it's a difficult topic.

When starting out, probably from 15 years old or probably younger, the original Destiny's Child were put through a pretty tough training regime by their parents - 'if they wanted to make it' - and were poised to be sold as a group with strong Christian values, and initially they were, kinda... same thing with Britney Spears; who, since the last i heard, wasn't even in control of her own estate due to her mental instability. Though they are still carting her around the world on tours making big bucks from her medicated state. Britney's parents split up and went on their own descents into alcoholism and minor celebrity fame - I think her mum currently manages her dealings.

As for Beyonce, no she doesn't need to behave like she does and it was a steady progression to what she is today, in order to not alienate her fans and to allow them to acclimatise. However where we are now, after years of hyper-sexualisation, and due to the power sexuality has on people in general, it's a no brainer to utilise this in your sales pitch. Whether there's a more nefarious undercurrent or it's just human-nature, as seen in other societies which have descended into being drive by the baser instincts, i couldn't say for sure, probably a mix of the two.

The audience Beyonce appeals to women in general, but especially younger (the fact many are actually children doesn't seem to bother those around her, including herself), as well as the boys/men wish to attract, she is seen as the perfect person to imitate. And it negatively effects both sexes.

There was a reality tv program on in the UK called 'my big fat gypsy wedding' where we saw how this can influence very young children - you saw 8 year olds (if not younger) dressed and dancing like Beyonce at the wedding parties (there are clips on youtube). Sure their parents should have stopped them rather than buying the outfits they were wearing and letting them watch the videos on repeat, but particularly in their culture, finding a suitor is one of the most important things and they thought that to be natural.

This whole 'getting a man' is reinforced throughout western media and is at least one of the drivers for the popularity of hyper-sexualisation, the other being that women feel that this behaviour is empowering them and that they're in 'control' of their sexuality. Because again, our culture is saturated and it takes less and less to shock people nowadays. Also, many young people feel they are just breaking the old stuffy rules of the generation before them and that they're actually making the world a freer place...

Things are very much upside-down and back to front...

Oh goodness! I was actually discussing this with my partner the other day, how all this started with the 'Women Empowerment" movement, which in theory was a good cause, but it's gotten so twisted in shambles, it's quite sad. COINTELPRO anyone?

I have to agree with you Solie. Saw the video, and I thought I was used to Beyonce's/hip-hop music videos, but they all seem to be taking it to another level. Very sad indeed. And it does impact impressionable young women AND men. It becomes the norm of what is accepted and acceptable. In any sane reality, that kind of hyper-sexuality and lack of clothing etc is totally unacceptable!
