Some Lessons - Melody Gardot -

Well, I'm buckled up inside
Miracle that I'm alive
Do not think I can survive
On bread and wine alone

To think that I could have fallen
A centimeter to the left
Would not be here to see the sunset
Or have myself a time

Well, why do the hands of time
So easily unwind?

Some lessons we learn the hard way
Some lessons don't come easy
And that's the price we have to pay

Well, some lessons we learn the hard way
They don't come right off and right easy
And that's why they say some lessons learned
We learn the hard way

Remember the sound of the pavement
World turned upside down
City streets unlined and empty
Not a soul around

Life goes away in a flash
Right before your eyes
If I think real hard, well, I reckon
I had some real good times

Why do the hands of time
So easily unwind?

Some lessons we learn the hard way
Some lessons don't come easy
And that's the price we have to pay

Well, some lessons we learn the hard way
They don't come right off and right easy
And that's why they say some lessons learned
We learn the hard way

The lyrics are not what I would describe as deep, nor are they worth pasting here. But this song rocks.

Here's a selection of some of the most beautiful and invigorating songs, i have ever heard. I particularly like to sing along (or stretch) and if you attempt it, you may feel some of the light headedness which i reckon is part of the reason for it.

I've been meaning to post them for a while.. i may be totally off, but i can just imagine these styles: the build ups, the harmonies, the moments of chaos (in some of the songs), that they are derived from tradition and finally; the length, because as i mentioned with the breathing, by the end of these songs the performers must literally be vibrating.

1) the build up song

(Turkey?) Rhoum El Bakkali Ensemble Hadra Chefchaouen - female ensemble

_https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CjHEIqY19BU < another song from the group, very beautiful

2) the harmony

Aznash Ensemble [these ladies are fierce]

Sufi Music of Chechens / Çeçen Tasavvuf Müziği

3) Strings and throat singing

Altain Orgil ensemble 02 Mongolian folk music

4) The Eternal Hymn (60minutes - the 2nd song at 30:00 is great)

The Lord's Lamentations (Romanian Orthodox Church Chant)

5) Russian Orthodox - very gentle

Agni Parthene - Valaam Brethren Choir

This is the one i like the most... from the late Whitney Houston.

"One Moment in Time"
Each day I live
I want to be
A day to give
The best of me
I'm only one
But not alone
My finest day
Is yet unknown

I broke my heart
Fought every gain
To taste the sweet
I face the pain
I rise and fall
Yet through it all
This much remains

I want one moment in time
When I'm more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me
Give me one moment in time
When I'm racing with destiny
Then in that one moment of time
I will feel
I will feel eternity

I've lived to be
The very best
I want it all
No time for less
I've laid the plans
Now lay the chance
Here in my hands

Give me one moment in time
When I'm more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me
Give me one moment in time
When I'm racing with destiny
Then in that one moment of time
I will feel
I will feel eternity

You're a winner for a lifetime
If you seize that one moment in time
Make it shine

Give me one moment in time
When I'm more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me
Give me one moment in time
When I'm racing with destiny
Then in that one moment of time
I will be
I will be
I will be free
I will be
I will be free

I'm listening to Spanish 'cuplé'. It's really funny...
I'm a pianist and composer and I accompanied many cuplé and cabaret singers in Madrid and other countries.

Here I send you a couple of examples:

HARVEST FOR THE WORLD - Isley Brothers

All babies together, everyone a seed
Half of us are satisfied, half of us in need
Love's bountiful in us, tarnished by our greed
When will there be a harvest for the world

A nation planted, so concerned with gain
As the seasons come and go, greater grows the pain
And far too many feelin' the strain
When will there be a harvest for the world

Gather everyman, gather every woman
Celebrate your lives, give thanks for your children
Gather everyone, gather all together
Overlooking none, hopin' life gets better for the world

Dress me up for battle, when all I want is peace
Those of us who pay the price, come home with the least
Nation after nation, turning into beast
When will there be a harvest for the world

I am currently listening to this:

http://traubeck.bandcamp.com/album/years

It is beautiful, that such calming music can be found in the tree rings. It's like listening to the experience they had, but in musical form.

Pink Floyd - Echoes (complete) (live in Pompeii 1971)

Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air
And deep beneath the rolling waves in labyrinths of coral caves
The echo of a distant tide
Comes willowing across the sand
And everything is green and submarine

And no one showed us to the land
And no one knows the where's or why's
But something stirs and something tries
And starts to climb towards the light

Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me
And do I take you by the hand
And lead you through the land
And help me understand the best I can
And no one calls us to move on
And no one forces down our eyes
No one speaks
And no one tries
No one flies around the sun

Cloudless every day you fall upon my waking eyes
Inviting and inciting me to rise
And through the window in the wall
Come streaming in on sunlight wings
A million bright ambassadors of morning

And no one sings me lullabies
And no one makes me close my eyes
So I throw the windows wide
And call to you across the sky.

Enjoy! :)

Extract from a modern opera:

A New Machine (Part 1)

I have always been here
I have always looked out from behind these eyes
It feels like more than a lifetime
Feels like more than a lifetime

Sometimes I get tired of the waiting
Sometimes I get tired of being in here
Is this the way it has always been?
Could it ever have been different?

Do you ever get tired of the waiting?
Do you ever get tired of being in there?
Don't worry, nobody lives forever
Nobody lives forever

Terminal Frost

A New Machine (Part 2)

I will always be in here
I will always look out from behind these eyes
It's only a lifetime
It's only a lifetime
It's only a lifetime

The Weary Kind _http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePVVDGRIHD0

Your heart's on the loose
You rolled them seven's with nothing to lose
This ain't no place for the weary kind

You called all your shots
Shooting 8 ball at the corner truck stop
Somehow this don't feel like home anymore

And this ain't no place for the weary kind
This ain't no place to lose your mind
This ain't no place to fall behind
Pick up your crazy heart and give it one more try

Your body aches
Playing your guitar and sweating out the hate
The days and the nights all feel the same

Whiskey has been a thorn in your side
It doesn't forget
The highway that calls for your heart inside

And this ain't no place for the weary kind
This ain't no place to lose your mind
This ain't no place to fall behind
Pick up your crazy heart and give it one more try

Your lover's warm kiss
Is too damn far from your fingertips
You are the man that ruined her world

Your heart's on the loose
You rolled them seven's with nothing to lose
And this ain't no place for the weary kind

Fallin and Flyin _http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGJm72H31do

I was goin where I shouldn't go,
Seein who I shouldn't see,
Doin what I shouldn't do,
An Being who I shouldn't be,

A little voice told me it's all wrong,
Another voice told me it's alright,
I used to think that I was strong,
But lately I just lost the fight...

Chorus:
It's funny how fallin feels like flyin,
for a little while,
Funny how fallin feels like flyin,
for a little while,

I got tired of bein good,
Started missin that ol' feelin free,
Stopped actin like I thought I should,
Went on back to bein me,

I never meant to hurt no one,
I just had to have my way,
If there's such a thing as too much fun,
This must be the price you pay...

Chorus:
Funny how fallin feels like flyin,
for a little while,
Funny how fallin feels like flyin,
for a little while,

Never see it comin till it's gone,
It all happens for a reason even when it's wrong,
Especially when it's wrong...

Chorus:
Funny how fallin feels like flyin,
for a little while,
It's funny how fallin feels like flyin,
for a little while,

I was goin where I shouldn't go,
Seein who I shouldn't see,
Doing what I shouldn't do,
Bein who I shouldn't be.
