The Smiths: Panic (hang the Dow Jones)

_http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AlH2oYedfk&feature=related

Panic on the streets of london
Panic on the streets of birmingham
I wonder to myself
Could life ever be sane again ?
The leeds side-streets that you slip down
I wonder to myself
Hopes may rise on the grasmere
But honey pie, you're not safe here
So you run down
To the safety of the town
But there's panic on the streets of carlisle
Dublin, dundee, humberside
I wonder to myself

Burn down the disco
Hang the blessed dj
Because the music that they constantly play
It says nothing to me about my life
Hang the blessed dj
Because the music they constantly play

On the leeds side-streets that you slip down
Or provincial towns you jog 'round
Hang the dj, hang the dj, hang the dj
Hang the dj, hang the dj, hang the dj
Hang the dj, hang the dj, hang the dj
Hang the dj, hang the dj
Hang the dj, hang the dj
Hang the dj, hang the dj, hang the dj
Hang the dj, hang the dj
Hang the dj, hang the dj
Hang the dj, hang the dj, hang the dj
Hang the dj, hang the dj
Hang the dj, hang the dj
Hang the dj, hang the dj

Rhapsody of Fire - Thunder's Mighty Roar:

Video:
It's quite heavy at the beginning, but I like it anyways: _http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEJVTfQ-U2A

Lyrics:

Reborn from ancient chaos
they came to rule our planet
the matrix is the answer
to their new plans of terror
in millions they've been cloned
with dna corrupted
to conquer our freedom
to impose a schizoid truth

Reason with your mind
Reflection is your gift
Don't let the mass confuse you
With it's stupidity
God is in me God is in you
Now be strong and walk alone
Try to look into your heart and find
The way to your own soul

It's time to stop crying
Now we are called

(REACT)
IT'S TIME TO FIGHT
(FIGHT NOW)
THE MATRIX SOUL
(SHE NEEDS)
PLEASE HEAR HER CALL
(YOUR HELP)
IT'S MOTHER EARTH
YOU WILL KNOW THE DAY
OF THEIR MIGHTY FALL
WHEN YOU HEAR THUNDER'S MIGHTY ROAR

The threat of a new kingdom
Led by apathic zombies
Is tragic and dramatic
The acid rain is falling
The virus is now spreading
Beware the brain's infection
The world is now in danger
It waits for our reaction

Reason with your mind
Reflection is your gift
Don't let the mass confuse you
With it's stupidity
God is in me God is in you
Now be strong and walk alone

It's time to wake up
Open your eyes

(IT IS)
IT'S TIME TO FIGHT
(FIGHT NOW)
THE MATRIX SOUL
(SHE NEEDS)
PLEASE HEAR HER CALL
(YOUR HELP)
IT'S MOTHER EARTH
YOU WILL KNOW THE DAY
OF THEIR MIGHTY FALL
WHEN YOU HEAR THUNDER'S MIGHTY ROAR

May the scars use their cosmic energy
So the violence will never prevail
You will know the day
Of their mighty fall
When you hear thunder's mighty roar.

I like its chorus. :D

This is just the kind of song that I felt familiar with although I never heard it before

Subtle - Providence (2008)

Is this a something serious as setting bone,
you being of the lightest blinkings in infinity.
And does this restore a gape where your will would be.
Does this draw a grey where your reds would bleed,
Where onces there was only black...

And so it seems being set free,
is a complex and unalterable series of captures and release.
And in that it is this web of tragedy and consequence that,
gives your loss and found its trajectory.

Arm
Gone Clear
Dive Cope Quit
Fear Blood
Bone
I

To evacuate onces sturdy flesh:
one part endless,
two parts death...
blood swapped with bled
sleep swapped with breath
Not ghost Not dead
Not lead Not yet

The last of man kind will have no instruction.
No flag that stands for more than him.
Man will have hunger, wounds, and mind alone
by which he might
give scale to his map.

To know you are gone,
and what you are doing is meant.
As evidenced
By the risen hairs of human arms on end,
that marks the slight and unlikely swells of
the clear skull spell.

Arm
Gone Clear
Dive Cope Quit
Fear Blood
Bone
I

Godspeed You Black Emperor! - the dead flag blues (intro)

the car's on fire and there's no driver at the wheel
and the sewers are all muddied with a thousand lonely suicides
and a dark wind blows

the government is corrupt
and we're on so many drugs
with the radio on and the curtains drawn

we're trapped in the belly of this horrible machine
and the machine is bleeding to death

the sun has fallen down
and the billboards are all leering
and the flags are all dead at the top of their poles

it went like this:

the buildings tumbled in on themselves
mothers clutching babies picked through the rubble
and pulled out their hair

the skyline was beautiful on fire
all twisted metal stretching upwards
everything washed in a thin orange haze

i said: "kiss me, you're beautiful -
these are truly the last days"

you grabbed my hand and we fell into it
like a daydream or a fever

we woke up one morning and fell a little further down -
for sure it's the valley of death

i open up my wallet
and it's full of blood

Natalie Merchant: Carnival

Well, I've walked these streets
a virtual stage
it seemed to me
make up on their faces
actors took their
places next to me

Well, I've walked these streets
in a carnival
of sights to see
all the cheap thrill seekers
the vendors and the dealers
they crowded around me

have I been blind
have I been lost
inside my self and
my own mind
hypnotized
mesmerized
by what my eyes have seen?

Well, I've walked these streets
in a spectacle of wealth and poverty
in the diamond markets
the scarlet welcome carpet
that they just rolled out for me

And I've walked these streets
in the mad house asylum
they can be
where a wild eyed misfit prophet
on a traffic island stopped
and he raved of saving me

have I been wrong
have I been wise
to shut my eyes
and play along
hypnotized
paralyzed
by what my eyes have found
by what my eyes have seen
what they have seen?

have I been blind
have I been lost

have I been wrong
have I been wise
have I been strong

Have I been
hypnotized
mesmerized
by what my eyes have found
in that great street carnival
in that carnival?

I found a couple of songs by Buddhist nun Choying Drolma from the library and just had to buy her CD from Amazon as soon as I could. It hasn't arrived yet but I think it will be a good aid for meditation.

She definitely has a way of stirring the soul.

"Choying Drolma and the nuns of Nagi Gompa, a Buddhist nunnery in the foothills of the Himalayas, sing songs that have been passed down in an unbroken living tradition for hundreds of years. In 1994, guitarist Steve Tibbetts visited their remote monastery and recorded their music, which he later framed with elegant and restrained arrangements to create a stunning recording called Chö, released on Ryko/Hannibal Records." - starsend.org

Diggin the politico-rock of the UK Band Muse. Two of my favorites are:

Time is Running Out
http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=64wBgV62IKA

Knights of Cyndonia
http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=jV1bRfLHA3A

They have very political overtones, very interesting videos as well. Most of their work is emo-rock sounding since their lead singer has an emo-ie voice, but the band plays straight up modern rock with a nice combination of different instruments. I dig em.

Pepi Ginsberg - The Waterline http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJ4l6UOrozU

No lyrics availabe unfortunately, but it's a lovely song and a very cool video as well.

TEARS FOR FEARS - Everybody wants to Rule the World

Welcome to your life
There's no turning back
Even while we sleep
We will find you
Acting on your best behaviour
Turn your back on mother nature
Everybody wants to rule the world

Its my own design
Its my own remorse
Help me to decide
Help me make the most
Of freedom and of pleasure
Nothing ever lasts for ever
Everybody wants to rule the world

There's a room where the light won't find you
Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do I'll be right behind you

So glad we've almost made it
So sad they had to fade it
Everybody wants to rule the world

I can't stand this indecision
Married with a lack of vision
Everybody wants to rule the world
Say that you'll never never never never need it
One headline why believe it?
Everybody wants to rule the world

All for freedom and for pleasure
Nothing ever lasts for ever
Everybody wants to rule the world

I'm currently listening to some boxed classical sets that are in the bargain bins outside record stores. Favourite so far is an EMI collection modestly titled "The best classical album of the millenium ever!"

I suppose EMI have a few decades of London Philharmonic and Classical symphony recordings to choose from, it seems ok and the variety is broad. I've read reviews where Joe Average describes it as rather good and classical snobs describe it as pedestrian. To me it seems to be a reasonable start with a lot of recognizable pieces from ice cream and domestic cleaning commercials.

Popping it on whilst cleaning the house on a Saturday morning makes life just that little more tolerable.

Flobots: Fight with Tools

echo echo one-nine
hear the call through fault lines
smoke signals, old rhymes
shorted lights in store signs
spelled in a broken code
find that it is time to
breath, build, bend, and refine you
we sky tenants
give it all but wont give up
radio soul antennas
radio to lift spirits
call sign commando
m.o. is independence
scream till the walls fall,
dissolve all the limits

occupied minds
unemployed skills
desolation
worn out
torn down
just for now thrill seekers
slanging
test tube babies in beakers
where gun blasts pump straight from the speakers
the system where the
poor get poorly paid
to hold the ladder
where the rich get ricocheted
into the stratosphere
and in between people are rushin' like vladimir
with metals to make their status clear
get us out of here

we need heroes
build them
don't put your fist up
fill them
Fight with our hopes and our hearts and our hands
we're the architects of our last stand
[x2]

there's a war going on for your mind
those who seek to occupy it will stop at nothing
the battlefield is everywhere
there is no sanctuary
there are no civilians
you have two choices
surrender or enlist

what kind of person are you
always the first to argue
or never down to stick your neck out
cause it hurts you far too much
to see your rep suffer
set you up a buffer
well neither is enough for us cut from a tougher brand of duct tape
the propaganda's stuck on us like sock pajamas
spread like a virus
through accepted thoughts and proper manners
but off the cameras
somethings simmering across the land
about to bubble up
and knock the lids off of the pots and pans

we are non stop juggernauts
stomp ziggurats
spit manifestos
by terabytes and gigawatts
shock paradigms
give sense to a score
throw thoughts through the sky
activate twenty more
in these high and dry times
expectorate on dogma
pragmatic sycophants
divide and conquer
we build bridges offer
hard work and prosper
as hand made heroes brought to you by no sponsors

we need heroes
build them
don't put your fist up
fill them
Fight with our hopes and our hearts and our hands
we're the architects of our last stand
[x4]

all free minds to the front
all free minds to the front
we call upon women
we call upon children
we call upon the handicapped
the infirmed
the weak of heart
we need your courage
your dedication
your passion
your conviction
gather up your platinum
melt it down
gather up your gold
melt it down
gather up your silver
your bronze
your aluminum
melt it down
melt it down
melt it down

Lisa Germano - In the land of fairies (From the "in the maybe world")

Narcissistic little fairy
Why do i feel dead
Who was that stupid ogre
Messing with my head
Somebody saw a monster
It was real mean
Every little soul has
Sides you’ve never seen
All around my bubble
Fairies everywhere
I don’t even like ‘em
I don’t even care
Somebody saw a monster
Worst you’ve ever seen
Scary little joker
It was only me
Thinking i was dead
Don’t have time to be here
That’s the place for me
Don’t have time to talk now
Busy as a bee
Don’t have time to talk now

Just stumbled upon this song (not my favorite type of music, but interesting anyway):

Cassiopeia by Dragonland

Beautiful queen of the waters
Borne by celestial mother
Sublime astrological divinity

Punished for vain intervention
She sacrificed godlike ascension
Stripped of Olympian serenity

"Solar winds will carry me far away
from here take me to my journey's end"

Hear a goddess cry
a silent hopeless sigh
from a sactum divine

From the stars she still whispers
Envied among all her sisters
Entwined in a kingdom of infinity

The tears of an astral descension
derived from her moonlit dimension
A star that is fading to obscurity

"So, my wings will carry me far away from
home bring me to my final rest"

[Solo: Mörck]

[Solo: Marios Iliopolous]

Hear a goddess cry
a silent hopeless sigh
from a sanctum divine

Hear a godless cry
when astral angels die
in a sanctum divine.
